Forecasting model of power generated by wind power plants

The power generated by wind power plants is unstable so forecasting is needed to maintain the power balance in an interconnected system. The purpose of this research is to predict the power generated at the Sidrap and Jeneponto wind power plants. The method used is an optimally pruned extreme learning machine (OPELM). The extreme learning machine (ELM) method is used as a comparison method. The mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) method is used to assess the level of forecasting accuracy. Forecasting power generation with Sidrap wind power plant data using the OPELM method is 0.8970% more accurate than the ELM which is 1.0853%. In general, the OPELM method is more accurate. Forecasting power generation with data from the Jeneponto wind power plant using the OPELM method is 2.4887% more accurate than the ELM method is 2.9984%. These results indicate that linear, sigmoid, and Gaussian activation in the OPELM method can increase accuracy. The OPELM method can be tested in forecasting the power generation at the Sidrap and Jeneponto wind power plants to maintain a power balance in the Sulselbar power grid system.

Small and medium scale electroplating industry produces a variety of plating products by using hazardous substances as raw materials. The production process at SMI electroplating held manually. Industrial environmental management is conducted by implementing clean production starting from waste prevention, reduction and recycling. Research is conducted in the field through observation and review of actions to reduce process failures and improve them. The success of implementing clean production as an environmental management effort can be extended to other SMIs.

Bromelain is a glycoprotein that contains a single carbohydrate moiety group and displays proteolytic activity. Bromelain has long been known to act as an immunomodulator; however, the immunomodulatory activity of its carbohydrate moiety has been very rarely studied and is not well understood. This study aimed to predict the immunomodulatory activity of the carbohydrate moiety of bromelain (CMB) by evaluating it using the PASS server, and the binding affinities between CMB and various pro-inflammatory cytokines were analyzed using a molecular docking approach. This research was conducted by docking the CMB ligand to the following receptor proteins: interleukin-6 (IL-6), IκBβ/nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65 homodimer complex (IκBα/NF-κB p65), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and IL-1β. The biological potential of CMB was predicted using the online PASS server. The results of the computational analysis indicated that the highest binding energy was identified between CMB and IκBβ/NF-κB p65 (−10.3 kcal/mol), followed by TNF-α (−9.7 kcal/mol), and IL-6 and IL-1β, with values of −8.2 kcal/mol for both. The CMB activity predicted by the Way2Drug PASS server indicated that this molecule is likely to display significant immunostimulant activity. These findings suggested that CMB can be considered a potential lead molecule for further drug development to identify agent that can prevent or cure inflammation and restore balance to the immune system. However, the predictions determined in this study remain to be validated in future in vitro and in vivo studies.

An integrated waste management system requires baseline data, including waste generation analysis, composition density, and waste characteristics. Baseline data is needed to determine the proper waste management strategy. This research was conducted by measuring directly from the source of waste carried out by stratified sampling following SNI 19-3964-1994. The location of the study was carried out in Tanjung and Gangga districts because this location is considered to represent North Lombok Regency. The research was conducted using 100 samples of household waste. The study results on the composition of waste in the North Lombok Regency consisted of organic waste, plastic waste, paper, cloth, wood, glass, metal, and rubber waste. The dominant composition is organic waste. The characteristics of waste in the North Lombok Regency have a higher water content than the water content of waste in general. All the characteristics tested indicate that the waste in North Lombok Regency requires several treatments before processing waste, such as reducing the water content and increasing the C/N ratio. Based on the characteristics and composition of the waste, composting or incineration is the suitable waste management method in North Lombok Regency.

This research focuses on the study of biocomposite nanoparticles of Eleocharis dulcis (ED) as potentials biosorbent to reduce the concentration of lead (II) ion containing Sasirangan textile industry wastewater. Eleocharis dulcis, locally named as Purun Tikus, has been developing becomes the biocomposites nanomaterial and valuables material in this research. Batch experiments were carried out to considering the kinetic of biosorption of lead onto the adsorbent, evaluating the effects of lead ion equilibrium concentration, equilibrium pH, and temperature on the adsorption of lead (II). Kinetic data of lead (II) biosorption onto EDB and EDB-MH revealed that equilibrium time was reached within 2 h, and the isotherm data showed that the Langmuir maximum adsorption capacity of the EDB-M and EDB-MH at pHe of 6±0.2, room temperature were 150.43 mg/g and 180.92 mg/g, respectively. The thermodynamic of lead (II) biosorption onto the adsorbent implied the biosorption was spontaneous and endothermic indicating by increased in temperature would increased in adsorption capacity. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2018.

Productive Structural Geology in Volcanogenic System: A case study of Lumut Balai Geothermal Field, Indonesia

Lumut Balai is geothermal field that occurs in the caldera system, named Lumut Tua Caldera, approximately 9 km in diameter. Located in Penindaian Village, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province. Lumut Balai is one of the fields operated by Pertamina Geothermal Energy. The volcanism in Lumut Balai is closely related to the Sumatra Fault Systems activity. Surface data such as outcrops provide information regarding lithology, alteration type, and geological structures, while manifestations provide fluid geochemistry data. Subsurface data are acquired from rock cuttings and core samples (which are then further analyzed through petrographic analysis and XRD analysis), drilling parameters, and borehole image logging. These provide information and interpretation of subsurface geological conditions such as lithology distribution, alteration distribution, reservoir zone, heat source, and permeability. The methods above result in an interpretation of the Lumut Balai geological model. Lumut Balai is a geothermal system located within the Lumut Balai caldera, composed of andesite, andesite breccia, basaltic andesite, basalt, limestone, meta-sediment, tuff, and tuff breccia which are all altered to certain extents. There are five stratigraphic units, starting from the oldest to youngest are Tertiary Basement Unit, Pre-Old Lumut Unit, Pre-Caldera Unit, Caldera Unit, and Post-Caldera Unit. Alteration zones in Lumut Balai could be classified into smectite+chlorite zone, silica+chlorite zone, and chlorite+epidote zone. Productive faults in Lumut Balai are Air Ringkih Fault with NE-SW trend, Air Udangan Fault trending NE-SW, Lumut Tua Caldera and Gemurah Besar which trends N-S. This study aims to confirm the productive geological structure in Lumut Balai and gives better understanding for future field development, such as well targeting for makeup wells and reservoir simulation.

Parkia speciosa seeds, a widely consumed plant in Southeast Asia, are known for their rich bioactive compounds with potential health benefits. This study investigates the antioxidant properties of ethanol extracts from P. speciosa leaves (PSL) and seeds (PSS) to combat oxidative stress. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays, revealing that PSL exhibited higher antioxidant potential than PSS, with values of 14.34 ± 0.02 and 19.39 ± 0.04 μg ascorbic acid equivalent (AAE)/g extract, respectively. The ethanol extracts of PSL and PSS significantly protected HT22 cells from erastin-induced ferroptotic cell death and activated the antioxidant response element (ARE) pathway, enhancing endogenous antioxidant defense mechanisms. Furthermore, in silico molecular docking analysis identified 7,7′-Dihydroxy-5′‑methoxy-2′,2′-dimethyl-4-oxo-3′,4′-dihydro-2′H,4H-3,6′-bichromen-5-yl hexopyranosiduronic acid as a promising bioactive compound with strong binding affinities to oxidative stress-related receptors (5i6x, 6cm4, 2f8a, 8bxn, and 8ivr). These findings suggest that P. speciosa ethanol extract, particularly from its leaves, exhibits strong antioxidant and neuroprotective properties, supporting its potential application as a natural therapeutic agent for oxidative stress-related disorders. © 2025 The Authors

Hululais Prospect in Rejang Lebong, Bengkulu is one of the geothermal fields developed by Pertamina Geothermal Energy. The field is situated within the Bukit Barisan Mountain Range, an NW-SE volcanic arc of Sumatra, and located 8 km western from Musi Segment of Sumatra Fault Zone Zone. Based on field data from geological mapping, remote sensing analyses and borehole data these regional structures influence the occurrence of the NW-SE volcanic axis in Hululais Volcanic Complex (HVC). The Hululais Volcanic Complex (HVC) itself is a Quaternary volcanic complex which comprised of six crown units namely: (Bukit Resam, Suban Agung, Bukit Beriti, Bukit Gedang, Bukit Lumut and Bukit Pabuar) with its associated Hummocks and primary/secondary deposits. These NW-SE distributed of Subang Agung, Bukit Beriti and Bukit Gedang volcanic crowns can be grouped as Hululais Brigade. The manifestations distribution in Hululais also depict the influence of the NW-SE geological structure and its volcanic activity. This is validated by the presence of geothermal manifestation such as fumarole in the central of Hululais Volcanic Complex and hot spring in the medial – distal part of the field.

Comparison of fracture toughness testing by the single edge v-notch beam and the surface crack in flexure method on silicon nitride

This work is intended to compare the SEVNB and the SCF methods for fracture toughness testing. Both of the test methods are applied to a silicon nitride. Both methods are standardized and both have some minor shortcomings with respect to practicability and match of the theoretical description of the test situation with the actual test situation. SEVNB is easy to perform, but uses a notch of known depth (+ small micro-cracks of unknown size in front of a notch) instead of a crack, SCF uses a presumably residual stress-free indentation crack which is sometimes difficult to measure, not always semi-elliptical, as assumed to apply the evaluation formula, and may be accompanied by lateral cracks. Both methods will be analysed with respect to possible experimental errors. Variations of the SCF method are applied in order to examine how pre-cracks can be introduced which can be detected on the fracture surface. The geometry of the SCF-pre-crack is varied by applying different loads and by removing different amounts of material. The geometry of the Knoop pre-cracks system is investigated. The results help to identify conditions under which the SCF method can be used successfully to measure the fracture toughness of silicon nitride ceramics.

Performance analysis of forced convection coolers using synthetic jets with variations in altitude from synthetic jets to heat sources

Every electronic device has a disadvantage that is heat generated from the components contained in the device while operating. The heat that occurs during the process can affect the effectiveness of these electronic devices. The cooling fan is directed to a heat source from an electronic device with the aim of maintaining the device's performance temperature. However, the cooling fan used still has some disadvantages in terms of dimensions. Therefore, research on synthetic jets is carried out as an innovation in cooling. This study aims to find wave characteristics as a source. Optimum frequency selection to support cooling. As well as the ideal height of synthetic jets to heat sources. The method used in the research is direct and computer-based data retrieval for CFD. The use of triangular waves as a source of cooling with a frequency of 80 Hz at an altitude of 8 cm can reduce rapidly. However, the lowest final temperature comes from a height of 2 cm which is 28.1 °C.
