Existing cross-document event coreference resolution models, which either compute mention similarity directly or enhance mention representation by extracting event arguments (such as location, time, agent, and patient), lacking the ability to utilize document-level information. As a result, they struggle to capture long-distance dependencies. This shortcoming leads to their underwhelming performance in determining coreference for the events where their argument information relies on long-distance dependencies. In light of these limitations, we propose the construction of document-level Rhetorical Structure Theory (RST) trees and cross-document Lexical Chains to model the structural and semantic information of documents. Subsequently, cross-document heterogeneous graphs are constructed and GAT is utilized to learn the representations of events. Finally, a pair scorer calculates the similarity between each pair of events and co-referred events can be recognized using standard clustering algorithm. Additionally, as the existing cross-document event coreference datasets are limited to English, we have developed a large-scale Chinese cross-document event coreference dataset to fill this gap, which comprises 53,066 event mentions and 4,476 clusters. After applying our model on the English and Chinese datasets respectively, it outperforms all baselines by large margins. © 2024, CC BY.

ErasableMask: A Robust and Erasable Privacy Protection Scheme against Black-box Face Recognition Models

While face recognition (FR) models have brought remarkable convenience in face verification and identification, they also pose substantial privacy risks to the public. Existing facial privacy protection schemes usually adopt adversarial examples to disrupt face verification of FR models. However, these schemes often suffer from weak transferability against black-box FR models and permanently damage the identifiable information that cannot fulfill the requirements of authorized operations such as forensics and authentication. To address these limitations, we propose ErasableMask, a robust and erasable privacy protection scheme against black-box FR models. Specifically, via rethinking the inherent relationship between surrogate FR models, ErasableMask introduces a novel meta-auxiliary attack, which boosts black-box transferability by learning more general features in a stable and balancing optimization strategy. It also offers a perturbation erasion mechanism that supports the erasion of semantic perturbations in protected face without degrading image quality. To further improve performance, ErasableMask employs a curriculum learning strategy to mitigate optimization conflicts between adversarial attack and perturbation erasion. Extensive experiments on the CelebA-HQ and FFHQ datasets demonstrate that ErasableMask achieves the state-of-the-art performance in transferability, achieving over 72% mean confidence in commercial FR systems. —Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have emerged as the potential aerial base stations (BSs) to improve terrestrial communications. However, the limited onboard energy and antenna power of a UAV restrict its communication range and transmission capability. To address these limitations, this work employs collaborative beamforming through a UAV-enabled virtual antenna array to improve transmission performance from the UAV to terrestrial mobile users, under interference from non-associated BSs and dynamic channel conditions. Specifically, we introduce a memory-based random walk model to more accurately depict the mobility patterns of terrestrial mobile users. Following this, we formulate a multi-objective optimization problem (MOP) focused on maximizing the transmission rate while minimizing the flight energy consumption of the UAV swarm. Given the NP-hard nature of the formulated MOP and the highly dynamic environment, we transform this problem into a multi-objective Markov decision process and propose an improved evolutionary multi-objective reinforcement learning algorithm. Specifically, this algorithm introduces an evolutionary learning approach to obtain the approximate Pareto set for the formulated MOP. Moreover, the algorithm incorporates a long short-term memory network and hyper-sphere-based task selection method to discern the movement patterns of terrestrial mobile users and improve the diversity of the obtained Pareto set. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively generates a diverse range of non-dominated policies and outperforms existing methods. Additional simulations demonstrate the scalability and robustness of the proposed CB-based method under different system parameters and various unexpected circumstances. © 2025 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. The performance assessment of floating structures involves a significant amount of hydrodynamic analysis. As large-scale aquaculture platforms gradually emerge from coastal areas into the deep sea, it is vital to investigate their hydrodynamic responses. Net accounts for a high proportion of aquaculture platforms as the viscous forces acting on the entire platform cannot be ignored. Based on flexible multibody dynamics and a viscous fluid load calculation method, this paper developed a hydrodynamic program for evaluating truss-type aquaculture platforms. It simulated the hydrodynamic forces on the flexible net and main structure. A time-domain numerical simulation of a large-scale fishery platform was carried out. The results of the free decay motion response obtained by AQWA and the flexible body analysis method in self-programming were compared in still water, revealing quite different hydrodynamic behaviors between the two conditions. The present method demonstrates a potential approach for performance evaluation of large aquaculture equipment in the ocean environment. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Incorporating biological neuronal properties into Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to enhance computational capabilities is under active investigation in the field of deep learning. Inspired by recent findings indicating that dendrites adhere to quadratic integration rule for synaptic inputs, this study explores the computational benefits of quadratic neurons. We theoretically demonstrate that quadratic neurons inherently capture correlation within structured data, a feature that grants them superior generalization abilities over traditional neurons. This is substantiated by few-shot learning experiments. Furthermore, we integrate the quadratic rule into Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) using a biologically plausible approach, resulting in innovative architectures—Dendritic integration inspired CNNs (Dit-CNNs). Our Dit-CNNs compete favorably with state-of-the-art models across multiple classification benchmarks, e.g., ImageNet-1K, while retaining the simplicity and efficiency of traditional CNNs. A Pruning Based Continuous RkNN Query Algorithm for Large k

Reverse k-nearest neighbor (RkNN) query is a hot-spot in spatio-temporal database. With the developing of mobile devices, continuous RkNN query becomes more and more important. Most of the previous methods use the two-step (filter-refinement) processing. However, for large k, the amount of calculation becomes very heavy, especially in the filter step. This is not acceptable for most mobile devices. This paper presents a novel algorithm for continuous RkNN queries based on pruning heuristics. The experiments show that the processing time of our method is still acceptable for most mobile devices when k is large.

A facile and efficient ball-milling assisted sol-gel synthesis route was developed to prepare triclinic e-LiVOPO_(4)(LVOP)material with lanthanum(La)and cerium(Ce)modification individually as well as *** LVOP/LaPO_(4)/CePO_(4)composite cathode material was successfully synthesized and results show that La and Ce co-modification noticeably improves the electrochemical performance by enhancing the high voltage capacity upon cycling,which indicates contributions from the good ionic conductors LaPO_(4)and CePO_(4).The simultaneous La and Ce modification improves the high voltage performance significantly with an increase of 50%in high voltage capacity after 20 cycles compared to pure *** also shows stabilized cycling perfo rmance with 91%capacity rete ntion after 50 cycles at 0.1 C rate,along with high-rate capability with a capacity of 83.1 mAh/g compared to the pristine sample showing the capacity of 51.6 mAh/g at a high rate of *** can be attributed to the good conductivity of LaPO_(4)and CePO_(4).In addition,the LVOP/LaPO_(4)/CePO_(4)composite and the pristine LVOP give a charge transfer resistance of-105 and-212Ω,respectively,showing much lower impedance due to a combination of La and Ce addition.

Exposure correction aims to adjust the exposure of an under- and over-exposed image to enhance its overall visual quality. The core challenge of this task lies in that it requires to faithfully restore both the structure and perception information. In this work, we present a novel exposure correction method, referred to as CLIP-RestoreX, that leverages structural and perceptual priors from CLIP to tackle exposure correction. Specifically, we in CLIP-RestoreX propose to perform exposure correction by aligning CLIP-based structural and perceptual feature of the impaired image with its ground-truth image. To better restore the damaged structural information and perceptual information, we further design a frequency-domain based feature enhancement diffusion model, where we utilize the globality of Fourier transform to help reveal potential the relationship within the features. We conduct extensive experiments on several benchmark datasets. The results demonstrate that the proposed CLIP-RestoreX outperforms state-of-the-art exposure correction methods.
