MODFuzz: A Multi-Objective Directed Fuzzer for USB Drivers

USB interfaces have become ubiquitous in various Internet of Things (IoT) devices, all adhering to the same USB protocol. While enhancing convenience, they also widen the potential attack surface. Fuzzing is a proactive way to identify potential security threats for USB drivers. However, existing USB driver fuzzers primarily prioritize the code coverage of USB drivers, leading to a significant waste of computational resources on irrelevant code segments. To this end, we combine directed fuzzing and USB driver fuzzing for the first time, and present MODFuzz, a pioneering multi-objective directed fuzzing method for USB drivers. MODFuzz autonomously locates the most vulnerable parts within USB drivers, concentrating fuzzing efforts on these areas. Diverging from the existing directed fuzzers, MODFuzz employs a dynamic direction instead of predetermined addresses to guide the fuzzing campaign toward the triggered execution traces with a greater probability of containing vulnerabilities. MODFuzz outperforms the strong baseline in terms of execution speed (about 14% improvement) and crash generation capabilities (about 69% improvement). Meanwhile, we found six previously unknown bugs (all confirmed and assigned vulnerability IDs) in Linux kernel v6.4.10 and received acknowledgment from Red Hat. © 2025 IEEE.

SwimVG: Step-wise Multimodal Fusion and Adaption for Visual Grounding

Visual grounding aims to ground an image region through natural language, which heavily relies on cross-modal alignment. Most existing methods transfer visual/linguistic knowledge separately by fully fine-tuning uni-modal pre-trained models, followed by a simple stack of visual-language transformers for multimodal fusion. However, these approaches not only limit adequate interaction between visual and linguistic contexts, but also incur significant computational costs. Therefore, to address these issues, we explore a step-wise multimodal fusion and adaption framework, namely SwimVG. Specifically, SwimVG proposes step-wise multimodal prompts (Swip) and cross-modal interactive adapters (CIA) for visual grounding, replacing the cumbersome transformer stacks for multimodal fusion. Swip can improve the alignment between the vision and language representations step by step, in a token-level fusion manner. In addition, weight-level CIA further promotes multimodal fusion by cross-modal interaction. Swip and CIA are both parameter-efficient paradigms, and they fuse the cross-modal features from shallow to deep layers gradually. Experimental results on four widely-used benchmarks demonstrate that SwimVG achieves remarkable abilities and considerable benefits in terms of efficiency. Euphemism identification deciphers the true meaning of euphemisms, such as linking "weed" (euphemism) to "marijuana" (target keyword) in illicit texts, aiding content moderation and combating underground markets. While existing methods are primarily text-based, the rise of social media highlights the need for multimodal analysis, incorporating text, images, and audio. However, the lack of multimodal datasets for euphemisms limits further research. To address this, we regard euphemisms and their corresponding target keywords as keywords and first introduce a keyword-oriented multimodal corpus of euphemisms (KOM-Euph), involving three datasets (Drug, Weapon, and Sexuality), including text, images, and speech. We further propose a keyword-oriented multimodal euphemism identification method (KOM-EI), which uses cross-modal feature alignment and dynamic fusion modules to explicitly utilize the visual and audio features of the keywords for efficient euphemism identification. Emotion recognition in conversation (ERC) aims at accurately identifying emotional states expressed in conversational content. Existing ERC methods, although relying on semantic understanding, often encounter challenges when confronted with incomplete or misleading semantic information. In addition, when dealing with the interaction between emotional and semantic information, existing methods are often difficult to effectively distinguish the complex relationship between the two, which affects the accuracy of emotion recognition. To address the problems of semantic misdirection and emotional cross-talk encountered by traditional models when confronted with complex conversational data, we propose a semantic and emotional dual channel (SEDC) strategy for emotion recognition in conversations to process emotional and semantic information independently. Under this strategy, emotion information provides an auxiliary recognition function when the semantics are unclear or lacking, enhancing the accuracy of the model. Our model consists of two modules: the emotion processing module accurately captures the emotional features of each utterance through contrastive learning, and then constructs a dialogue emotion propagation map to simulate the emotional information conveyed in the dialogue;the semantic processing module combines an external knowledge base to enhance the semantic expression of the dialogue through knowledge enhancement strategies. This divide-and-conquer approach allows us to more deeply analyze the emotional and semantic dimensions of complex dialogues. Experimental results on the IEMOCAP, EmoryNLP, MELD, and DailyDialog datasets show that our approach significantly outperforms existing techniques and effectively improves the accuracy of dialogue emotion recognition. CMCache: An Adaptive Cross-Level data Placement Method for Multi-Level Cache

Multi-level cache systems enhance I/O performance by optimizing data placement across various cache levels from a global perspective. However, existing methods often struggle to place data at the optimal cache level promptly due to their reliance on historical access patterns and inflexible placement strategies. These methods face two main challenges: (1) For already cached data with sufficient access history, existing approaches only optimize movement between adjacent cache levels, potentially delaying data arrival at its globally optimal cache level and leading to unnecessary bandwidth consumption and increased latency. (2) For newly entered data without access history, current methods cannot accurately predict their future hotness and simply place them at a fixed cache level (i.e. first or last level), overlooking future accesses of new data and potentially resulting in high cache miss rates or cache pollution. To address these issues, we propose CMCache, an adaptive cross-level data placement method for multi-level cache. CMCache applies distinct placement strategies for cached and new data to reach the optimal level timely, considering their different characteristics. It also logically divides cache space into two sections to manage cached and new data separately, dynamically adjusting section sizes based on access patterns. This approach significantly improves data placement efficiency, achieving up to an 89% reduction in miss rates and a 79% decrease in average response times compared to existing methods. © 2025 IEEE.

Homophily Induced Contrastive Attributed Graph Clustering

Attributed graph clustering, aiming to discover the underlying graph structure and partition the graph nodes into several disjoint categories, is a basic task in graph data analysis. Although recent efforts over graph contrastive clustering have achieved decent performances, most of them get accustomed to construct the positive neighbor set by the generated pseudo clustering information, directly ignoring the ready-made neighbor nodes and the underlying semantics of edges in a graph. How to well deal with the graph neighbor-specific information to facilitate the performance of graph contrastive clustering is still a challenging problem. Therefore, in this work, we propose a novel Homophily Induced Contrastive Attributed Graph Clustering (HomoCAGC) method, where the power of homophily is exploited in facilitating the performance of contrastive attributed graph clustering, while the pseudo homophily in a graph is also explored and distinguished. Especially, the node feature as reliable information guidance is used to compute the underlying feature-oriented pair-wise node similarity, based on which the positive node pairs in contrastive regularizer are adjusted for better node representation characterization. According to the refined node representations, a triplet self-supervised clustering objective is well-designed to ensure the output embedding is cluster-oriented, and suitable for the downstream clustering task. Extensive experiments on seven benchmarks are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of HomoCAGC. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

GKG-LLM: A Unified Framework for Generalized knowledge Graph Construction

The construction of Generalized knowledge Graph (GKG), including knowledge graph, event knowledge graph and commonsense knowledge graph, is fundamental for various natural language processing tasks. Current studies typically construct these types of graph separately, overlooking holistic insights and potential unification that could be beneficial in computing resources and usage perspectives. However, a key challenge in developing a unified framework for GKG is obstacles arising from task-specific differences. In this study, we propose a unified framework for constructing generalized knowledge graphs to address this challenge. First, we collect data from 15 sub-tasks in 29 datasets across the three types of graphs, categorizing them into in-sample, counter-task, and out-of-distribution (OOD) data. Then, we propose a three-stage curriculum learning fine-tuning framework, by iteratively injecting knowledge from the three types of graphs into the Large Language Models. Extensive experiments show that our proposed model improves the construction of all three graph types across in-domain, OOD and counter-task data. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Offline Reinforcement Learning (RL) optimizes policy using pre-collected data instead of direct environment interaction, offering a safe and cost-effective solution for sequential decision-making in the real world. However, it faces challenges such as distribution shift issues and vulnerability under perturbations. Researchers have developed various conservative methods to improve the robustness of offline RL. Nevertheless, model-based methods can result in transition distribution shift issues, while model-free value-based uncertainty penalty methods may not be sufficiently robust. To address these problems, we propose a new method called Robust Offline RL via Conservative Smoothing and Dynamics Controlling (RCSD). To achieve reliable value estimation of out-of-distribution (OOD) actions, RCSD uses both model-free uncertainty penalty and model-based simulation methods. It introduces a new one-step simulation method with conservative dynamics controlling to avoid value overestimation caused by transition distribution shifts. Moreover, RCSD considers both current and next states when generating OOD states to ensure cautious value estimation and efficient data utilization. RCSD uses conservative Q-smoothing and policy smoothing to strengthen the policy against sudden changes under perturbations. Experiments on D4RL benchmark demonstrate that RCSD can achieve state-of-the-art performance compared to baselines in either benchmark or adversarial attack tests.

Fake news often spreads rapidly on social media in various forms, exposing users to a large amount of misinformation and disinformation. Recently, promising results have been achieved in fake news detection. However, most of the approaches only consider one-hop neighborhood information in cross-modal mapping relationships or focus mainly on pairwise interactions of multimodal fake news. However, the fine-grained feature mapping of multimodal fake news may go beyond binary relations. To address these issues, we propose a Multi-Hop Attention Diffusion Graph Neural Networks in this work to capture and complement the multivariate mapping relationships between fine-grained features, while extracting cross-modal higher-order alignment representations for multimodal fake news detection via cross-modal contrastive learning and modal matching. Extensive experiments on three public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in the multimodal fake news detection task.
