Two-Stage Clustering and Independent Competing Based Evolutionary Algorithm for Multimodal Multi-Objective Optimization

The multimodal multi-objective optimization problem (MMOP) involves multiple distinct components of the Pareto set (PS), which correspond to the same Pareto front (PF). Most existing multimodal multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MMOEAs) face challenges in achieving both accuracy and timeliness in solving MMOPs. In this article, a two-stage clustering and independent competing based evolutionary algorithm (TSCICEA) is proposed for solving MMOPs. Firstly, in the early stage of population evolution, the K-means technique is used to coarsely cluster the population into multiple independent subpopulations, which aims to rapidly ascertain the approximate distribution structure of modalities and preliminarily locate their spatial positions. In the later stage, the DBSCAN technique is utilized to conduct fine clustering of the population, which aims to re-cluster misclustered individuals in the coarse clustering into new subpopulations, thus achieving a precise distinction between different modalities. Subsequently, to accurately identify the corresponding modality for each subpopulation, an independent competing strategy is proposed. This strategy can automatically assign different identification approaches for each modality based on their differences, and it simultaneously manages different modalities through parallel execution, thus significantly enhancing both the accuracy and timeliness of modality identification. To evaluate the effectiveness of TSCICEA, we compare it against state-of-the-art algorithms on benchmark test problems with 2–15 objectives and 4–15 variables. Experimental results demonstrate that TSCICEA achieves superior performance in terms of the IEDRX, IMST, and HV indicators © 1997-2012 IEEE.

Quantum emitters are a key component in photonic quantum technologies. Enhancing single-photon emission by engineering their photonic environment is essential for improving overall efficiency in quantum information processing. However, this enhancement is often limited by the need for ultraprecise emitter placement within conventional photonic cavities. Inspired by the fascinating physics of moiré pattern, we propose a multilayer moiré photonic crystal with a robust isolated flatband. Theoretical analysis reveals that, with nearly infinite photonic density of states, the moiré cavity simultaneously has a high Purcell factor and large tolerance over the emitter’s position, breaking the constraints of conventional cavities. We then experimentally demonstrate various cavity quantum electrodynamic phenomena with a quantum dot in moiré cavity. A large tuning range (up to 40-fold) of quantum dot’s radiative lifetime is achieved through strong Purcell enhancement and inhibition effects. Quasiperiodic systems are important space-filling ordered structures, without decay and translational invariance. How to solve quasiperiodic systems accurately and efficiently is of great challenge. A useful approach, the projection method (PM) [J. Comput. Phys., 256: 428, 2014], has been proposed to compute quasiperiodic systems. Various studies have demonstrated that the PM is an accurate and efficient method to solve quasiperiodic systems. However, there is a lack of theoretical analysis of PM. In this paper, we present a rigorous convergence analysis of the PM by establishing a mathematical framework of quasiperiodic functions and their high-dimensional periodic functions. We also give a theoretical analysis of quasiperiodic spectral method (QSM) based on this framework. Results demonstrate that PM and QSM both have exponential decay, and the QSM (PM) is a generalization of the periodic Fourier spectral (pseudo-spectral) method. Then we analyze the computational complexity of PM and QSM in calculating quasiperiodic systems. The PM can use fast Fourier transform, while the QSM cannot. Moreover, we investigate the accuracy and efficiency of PM, QSM and periodic approximation method in solving the linear time-dependent quasiperiodic Schrödinger equation. An Enhanced Flower Pollination Algorithm for Solving Optimal Power Flow Problem

The OPF system for renewable energy power has presented characteristics such as extremely high security constraints and more obvious multimodal properties, its solution is a challenging task and requires more efficient methods. In this paper, an enhanced flower pollination algorithm, EFPA-SF is proposed to solve the OPF problem. In EFPA-SF, there are four improvements: firstly, a random step size in the process of cross-pollination is proposed to improve the global search ability of EFPA-SF. Secondly, in the stage of self-pollination, the global optimal pollen is introduced to improve the ability of exploitation–exploration balance of the algorithm. In addition, if pollen individual crosses boundaries, boundary constraint is carried out by the previous position and boundary position of pollen, which is instrumental to escape from local optimum. Finally, the superiority of feasible solutions (SF) constraints handling method is integrated into the algorithm to satisfy the feasibility of the solutions. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the optimization capability of EFPA is first investigated and analyzed by using the most recent IEEE CEC2021 benchmark functions. Then, EFPA-SF is used to solve three engineering design problems and the performance is compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms, the validation results reveal that the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms, and demonstrate that it can be used for constrained optimization as well as for unconstrained optimization problems with good generality. Finally, EFA-SF is applied to the OPF problem on a modified IEEE-30 bus system that incorporates stochastic wind, solar, and small hydro power in addition to conventional thermal power generation. The comprehensive investigation reveals that EFA-SF can provide competitive solutions to the OPF problem compared to popular algorithms. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the past three decades, a large number of metaheuristics have been proposed and shown high performance in solving complex optimization problems. While most variation operators in existing metaheuristics are empirically designed, this paper aims to design new operators automatically, which are expected to be search space independent and thus exhibit robust performance on different problems. For this purpose, this work first investigates the influence of translation invariance, scale invariance, and rotation invariance on the search behavior and performance of some representative operators. Then, we deduce the generic form of translation, scale, and rotation invariant operators. Afterwards, a principled approach is proposed for the automated design of operators, which searches for highperformance operators based on the deduced generic form. The experimental results demonstrate that the operators generated by the proposed approach outperform state-of-theart ones on a variety of problems with complex landscapes and up to 1000 decision variables. © 2021, CC BY.

A notion of t-designs in the symmetric group on n letters, called permutation designs in this paper, was introduced by Godsil in 1988. Attention-Guided Generative Adversarial Network for Whisper to Normal Speech Conversion

Whispered speech is a special way of pronunciation without using vocal cord vibration. A whispered speech does not contain a fundamental frequency, and its energy is about 20dB lower than that of a normal speech. Converting a whispered speech into a normal speech can improve speech quality and intelligibility. In this paper, a novel attention-guided generative adversarial network model incorporating an autoencoder, a Siamese neural network, and an identity mapping loss function for whisper to normal speech conversion (AGANW2SC) is proposed. The proposed method avoids the challenge of estimating the fundamental frequency of the normal voiced speech converted from a whispered speech. Specifically, the proposed model is more amendable to practical applications because it does not need to align speech features for training. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed AGANW2SC can obtain improved speech quality and intelligibility compared with dynamic-time-warping-based methods. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. The sparse interactions between users and items have aggravated the difficulty of their representations in recommender systems. Existing methods leverage tags to alleviate the sparsity problem but ignore prevalent logical relations among items and tags (e.g., membership, hierarchy, and exclusion), which can be leveraged to enhance the accuracy of modeling user preferences and conducting recommendations. To this end, we propose to extract logical relations among item tags from existing tag taxonomies and exploit the individual strengths of the Poincaré and the Lorentz models in hyperbolic space for logical relation modeling towards enhanced recommendations. Moreover, we find that the logical relations directly extracted from existing tag taxonomies can be inaccurate and coarse. Therefore, we further devise innovative consistency-based and granularity- based weighting mechanisms based on user behavior patterns for data-driven logical relation mining that can be jointly optimized along with recommendations in an end-to-end fashion. Extensive experiments on four real-world benchmark datasets show drastic performance gains brought by our proposed framework, which constantly achieves an average of 8.25% improvement over state-of-the-art competitors regarding both Recall and NDCG metrics. Insightful case studies further demonstrate that our automatically refined logical relations are highly accurate and interpretable.
