Continuous-variable quantum information, encoded into infinite-dimensional quantum systems, is a promising platform for the realization of many quantum information protocols, including quantum computation, quantum metrology, quantum cryptography, and quantum communication. To successfully demonstrate these protocols, an essential step is the certification of multimode continuous-variable quantum states and quantum devices. This problem is well studied under the assumption that multiple uses of the same device result in identical and independently distributed (i.i.d.) operations. However, in realistic scenarios, identical and independent state preparation and calls to the quantum devices cannot be generally guaranteed. Important instances include adversarial scenarios and instances of time-dependent and correlated noise. In this paper, we propose the first set of reliable protocols for verifying multimode continuous-variable entangled states and devices in these non-i.i.d scenarios. Although not fully universal, these protocols are applicable to Gaussian quantum states, non-Gaussian hypergraph states, as well as amplification, attenuation, and purification of noisy coherent states. On the origin of intrinsic randomness of Rayleigh-Benard turbulence

It is of broad interest to understand how the evolution of non-equilibrium systems can be triggered and the role played by external perturbations. A famous example is the origin of randomness in the laminar-turbulence transition, which is raised in the pipe flow experiment by Reynolds as a century old unresolved problem. Although there exist different hypotheses, it is widely believed that the randomness is "intrinsic", which, however, remains as an open question to be verified. Simulating the modeled RayleighB′enard convection system by means of the so-called clean numerical simulation(CNS) with negligible numerical noises that are smaller even than thermal fluctuation, we verify that turbulence can be self-excited from the inherent thermal fluctuation without any external disturbances, i.e. out of nothing. This reveals a relationship between microscopic physical uncertainty and macroscopic randomness. It is found that in physics the system nonlinearity functions as a channel for randomness information,and energy as well, to transport microscopic uncertainty toward large scales. Such scenario can generally be helpful to understand the various relevant phenomena. In methodology, compared with direct numerical simulation(DNS), CNS opens a new direction to investigate turbulent flows with largely improved accuracy and reliability.

An Adaptive Lagrangian Algorithm for Optimal Portfolio Deleveraging with Cross-Impact

This paper considers the problem of optimal portfolio deleveraging, which is a crucial problem in finance. Taking the permanent and temporary price cross-impact into account, the authors establish a quadratic program with box constraints and a singly quadratic constraint. Under some assumptions, the authors give an optimal trading priority and show that the optimal solution must be achieved when the quadratic constraint is active. Further, the authors propose an adaptive Lagrangian algorithm for the model, where a piecewise quadratic root-finding method is used to find the Lagrangian multiplier. The convergence of the algorithm is established. The authors also present some numerical results, which show the usefulness of the algorithm and validate the optimal trading priority.

In this paper, we present a novel framework termed Anisotropic Spectral Manifold Wavelet Transform (ASMWT) for shape analysis. ASMWT comprehensively analyzes the signals from multiple directions on local manifold regions of the shape with a series of low-pass and band-pass frequency filters in each direction. Using the ASMWT coefficients of a very simple function, we efficiently construct a localizable and discriminative multiscale point descriptor, named as the Anisotropic Spectral Manifold Wavelet Descriptor (ASMWD). Since the filters used in our descriptor are direction-sensitive and able to robustly reconstruct the signals with a finite number of scales, it makes our descriptor be intrinsic-symmetry unambiguous, compact as well as efficient. The extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method achieves significant performance than several state-of-the-art methods when applied in vertex-wise shape matching. © 2018 The Author(s).

Incentivizing wi-fi network crowdsourcing: A contract theoretic approach

Crowdsourced wireless community network enables individual users to share their private Wi-Fi access points (APs) with each other, hence can achieve a large Wi-Fi coverage with a small deployment cost via crowdsourcing. This paper presents a novel contract-based incentive framework to incentivize such a Wi-Fi network crowdsourcing under incomplete information (where each user has certain private information such as mobility pattern and Wi-Fi access quality). In the proposed framework, the network operator designs and offers a set of contract items to users, each consisting of a Wi-Fi access price (that a user can charge others for accessing his AP) and a subscription fee (that a user needs to pay the operator for joining the community). Different from the existing contracts in the literature, in our contract model each user's best choice depends not only on his private information but also on other users' choices. This greatly complicates the contract design, as the operator needs to analyze the equilibrium choices of all users, rather than the best choice of each single user. We first derive the feasible contract that guarantees the users' truthful information disclosure based on the equilibrium analysis of user choice, and then derive the optimal (and feasible) contract that yields the maximal profit for the operator. Our analysis shows that a user who provides a higher Wi-Fi access quality is more likely to choose a higher Wi-Fi access price and subscription fee, regardless of the user mobility pattern. Simulation results further show that when increasing the average Wi-Fi access quality of users, the operator can gain more profit, but (counter-intuitively) offer lower Wi-Fi access prices and subscription fees for users. We report a method to tune the second harmonic generation(SHG) frequency of a metallic octamer by employing cylindrical vector beams as the excitation. Our method exploits the ability to spatially match the polarization state of excitations with the fundamental target plasmonic modes, enabling flexible control of the SHG resonant *** is found that SHG of the octamer is enhanced over a broad band(400 nm) by changing the excitation from the linearly polarized Gaussian beam to radially and azimuthally polarized beams. More strikingly, when subjected to an azimuthally polarized beam, the SHG intensity of the octamer becomes 30 times stronger than that for the linearly polarized beam even in the presence of Fano resonance.

This work deals with the dynamics of a class of stochastic dynamical systems with a multiplicative non-Gaussian Lévy noise. We first establish the existence of stable and unstable foliations for this kind of system via the Lyapunov-Perron method. Then we examine the geometric structure of the invariant foliations, and their relation with invariant manifolds. Finally, we illustrate our results in an example. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Generally, phase retrieval problem can be viewed as the reconstruction of a function/signal from only the magnitude of the linear measurements. These measurements can be, for example, the Fourier transform of the density function. Computationally the phase retrieval problem is very challenging. Many algorithms for phase retrieval are based on i.i.d. Gaussian random measurements. However, Gaussian random measurements remain one of the very few classes of measurements. In this paper, we develop an efficient phase retrieval algorithm for sub-gaussian random frames. We provide a general condition for measurements and develop a modified spectral initialization. In the algorithm, we first obtain a good approximation of the solution through the initialization, and from there we use Wirtinger Flow to solve for the solution. We prove that the algorithm converges to the global minimizer linearly. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.
