Due to their superior mechanical qualities and high strength-to-weight ratio when compared to unalloyed magnesium, magnesium alloys are widely used in a variety of applications. While maintaining control over the rate of corrosion for materials made of magnesium is crucial in the biological environment. Prior to controlling the degradation rate, Alloying is evaluated as the most essential way to enhance the corrosion and mechanical characteristics of the composites on comparing to the unalloyed material. Therefore, it is a pre-requisite to decide on the suitable alloying element to be added to the metal matrix composite that has a positive influence on the material property. In selecting the alloying elements, biocompatibility, biodegradability, less stress shielding effect, bio-activeness, and non-toxicity are the important parameters for biomedical applications other than mechanical and corrosion properties. The current study evaluated the various alloying elements in the Mg-based materials including Al, Ca, Al, Zn, rare earth (RE), Mn, Bi, Zr, Si, Ag, Zn, Ca, etc in a detailed version. © 2023

As a rapidly growing subset of the Internet of Thing (IoT), the cloud-based Internet of Medical Thing (IoMT) has been widely applied in remote healthcare industries, which allows the physicians to monitor patients' body parameters remotely to offer continuous and timely healthcare. These healthcare parameters usually contain sensitive information, such as heart rates, glucose levels and etc., and the exposure of them may pose serious threats to the patients' health and lives. To guarantee security and privacy, many IoMT data sharing schemes have been proposed. However, most of these schemes either exhibit a one-to-one data sharing structure or fail to protect the patients' privacy. Since the data usually needs to be shared to different physicians, patients may want to be assisted without revealing their identities. To meet these requirements in healthcare systems, we propose a multi-receiver secure healthcare data sharing scheme, in which the patients are allowed to share their IoMT data to multiple physicians simultaneously for a multidisciplinary treatment, and the conditional anonymity is achieved where data source authentication is provided without revealing the patient's identity. When the patient health condition is abnormal, the hospital can correctly and quickly trace the patient's identity and inform him/her immediately. Our scheme is formally proved to achieve multiple security properties including confidentiality, unforgeability and anonymity. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is efficient and practical.

Learning from noisy labels via dynamic loss thresholding

Numerous researches have proved that deep neural networks (DNNs) can fit everything in the end even given data with noisy labels, and result in poor generalization performance. However, recent studies suggest that DNNs tend to gradually memorize the data, moving from correct data to mislabeled data. Inspired by this finding, we propose a novel method named Dynamic Loss Thresholding (DLT). During the training process, DLT records the loss value of each sample and calculates dynamic loss thresholds. Specifically, DLT compares the loss value of each sample with the current loss threshold. Samples with smaller losses can be considered as clean samples with higher probability and vice versa. Then, DLT discards the potentially corrupted labels and further leverages supervised learning techniques. Experiments on CIFAR-10/100 and Clothing1M demonstrate substantial improvements over recent state-of-the-art methods. In addition, we investigate two real-world problems for the first time. Firstly, we propose a novel approach to estimate the noise rates of datasets based on the loss difference between the early and late training stages of DNNs. Secondly, we explore the effect of hard samples (which are difficult to be distinguished) on the process of learning from noisy labels. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Delineating cell populations is crucial for understanding immune function in health and disease. Spatial omics technologies offer insights by capturing three complementary domains: single-cell molecular biomarker expression, cellular spatial relationships and tissue architecture. However, current computational methods often fail to fully integrate these multidimensional data, particularly for immune cell populations and intrinsic functional states. We introduce Cell Local Environment and Neighborhood Scan (CellLENS), a self-supervised computational method that learns cellular representations by fusing information across three spatial omics domains (expression, neighborhood and image). CellLENS markedly enhances de novo discovery of biologically relevant immune cell populations at fine granularity by integrating individual cells’ molecular profiles with their neighborhood context and tissue localization. By applying CellLENS to diverse spatial proteomic and transcriptomic datasets across multiple tissue types and disease settings, we uncover unique immune cell populations functionally stratified according to their spatial contexts. Our work demonstrates the power of multi-domain data integration in spatial omics to reveal insights into immune cell heterogeneity and tissue-specific functions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature America, Inc. 2025.

Owing to the recent advancements of meta-materials and meta-surfaces, the concept of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has been embraced to meet the spectral- and energy-efficient, and yet cost-effective solutions for the sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks. From an operational standpoint, RISs can be easily deployed on the facades of buildings and indoor walls. Albeit promising, in the actual network operation, the deployment of RISs may face challenges because of the willingness and benefits of RIS holders from the aspect of installing RISs on their properties. Accordingly, RIS-aided wireless networks are faced with a formidable mission: how to balance the wireless service providers (WSPs) and RIS holders in terms of their respective interests. To alleviate this deadlock, we focus on the application of pricing models in RIS-aided wireless networks in pursuit of a win-win solution for both sides. Specifically, we commence with a comprehensive introduction of RIS pricing with its potential applications in RIS networks, meanwhile the fundamentals of pricing models are summarized in order to benefit both RIS holders and WSPs. In addition, a Stackelberg game-based model is exemplified to illustrate the operation of utility-maximization pricing. Door plays an important role in home security. To secure the house, the occupants of the house will always have the door locked. However, sometimes the house occupants forget to lock the door due to hurry when leaving the house, or they may doubt whether they have locked the door or not. We propose an application called Door Security System which is based on Android using Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor the status of the door, controlling the door and increasing security in a house. MQTT cloud is utilized as the communication protocol between smartphone and door lock system. PIR sensor is implemented in the door lock to detect the movement near the door, while touch sensor is installed on the door handle to recognize the human hand. Should the door is opened by force, the alarm will ring and send notification to alert the house occupant on the existence of intruder in the house. The evaluation results show that motion detection sensor can detect movement accurately up to 1,6 meters ahead, and messages published between smartphone and door lock are encrypted properly so messages are safely sent.

Speaker extraction aims to extract the target speech signal from a multi-talker environment given a target speaker's reference speech. We recently proposed a time-domain solution, SpEx, that avoids the phase estimation in frequency-domain approaches. Unfortunately, SpEx is not fully a time-domain solution since it performs time-domain speech encoding for speaker extraction, while taking frequency-domain speaker embedding as the reference. The size of the analysis window for time-domain and the size for frequency-domain input are also different. Such mismatch has an adverse effect on the system performance. To eliminate such mismatch, we propose a complete time-domain speaker extraction solution, that is called SpEx+. Specifically, we tie the weights of two identical speech encoder networks, one for the encoder-extractor-decoder pipeline, another as part of the speaker encoder. Experiments show that the SpEx+ achieves 0.8dB and 2.1dB SDR improvement over the state-of-the-art SpEx baseline, under different and same gender conditions on WSJ0-2mix-extr database respectively. We present high angular resolution measurements of the thermal Sunyaev–Zel’dovich effect (SZE) toward two galaxy clusters, RCS J2319+0038 at z = 0.9 and HSC J0947−0119 at z = 1.1, by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Band 3. They are supplemented with available Chandra X-ray data, optical data taken by Hyper Suprime-Cam on Subaru, and millimeter-wave SZE data from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope. Taking into account departures from spherical symmetry, we have reconstructed non-parametrically the inner pressure profile of two clusters as well as electron temperature and density profiles for RCS J2319+0038. This is one of the first such measurements for an individual cluster at z 0.9. We find that the inner pressure profile of both clusters is much shallower than that of local cool-core clusters. Our results consistently suggest that RCS J2319+0038 hosts a weak cool core, where radiative cooling is less significant than in local cool cores. On the other hand, HSC J0947−0119 exhibits an even shallower pressure profile than RCS J2319+0038 and is more likely to be a non-cool-core cluster. The SZE centroid position is offset by more than 140 h−170 kpc from the peaks of galaxy distribution in HSC J0947−0119, suggesting a stronger influence of mergers in this cluster. We conclude that these distant clusters are at a very early stage of developing the cool cores typically found in clusters at lower redshifts. © The Author(s) 2023. The characteristics of amorphous Sn-doped Ga2O3 films deposited using radio frequency magnetron sputtering at room temperature under different sputter powers have been demonstrated. A balance mechanism of energy supply and ion bombardment controlled by sputter power has been found during the deposition. The increasing growth rate as power can be due to the increased yield sputtering species indicated by an in situ optical emission spectroscopy. As the power increases to 700 W, an obvious change from discrete nanoparticles to flat-continuous film can be observed because of sufficient energy supply for oxidation reaction, which leads to the maximum ratio of lattice oxygen and Sn4+ indicating the optimal film quality and conductive property. However, a non-negligible high energy ion bombardment presented at 900 W leads to the degraded film quality. The influence of sputtering power on Sn-doped Ga2O3 solar-blind photodetectors is demonstrated. It can obtain a good performance with an ultra-low dark current density of 2.2 × 10−11 A/cm2, a substantial light-dark current ratio of 1.08 × 103 and fast rise/decay time of 1.59 s/0.54 s at 700 W. The revelation of the role of sputtering power on the properties of Sn-doped Ga2O3 films may offer an interesting direction for low-cost and high-performance solar-blind photodetectors. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd
