mobile edge computing (MEC) is powerful to alleviate the heavy computing tasks in integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. In this paper, we investigate joint beamforming and offloading design in a three-tier integrated sensing, communication and computation (ISCC) framework comprising one cloud server, multiple mobile edge servers, and multiple terminals. While executing sensing tasks, the user terminals can optionally offload sensing data to either MEC server or cloud servers. To minimize the execution latency, we jointly optimize the transmit beamforming matrices and offloading decision variables under the constraint of sensing performance. An alternating optimization algorithm based on multidimensional fractional programming is proposed to tackle the non-convex problem. Simulation results demonstrates the superiority of the proposed mechanism in terms of convergence and task execution latency reduction, compared with the state-of-the-art two-tier ISCC framework. The simultaneous acquisition and sharing of sensory data through a dual-functional signaling strategy, termed the communication-assisted sensing (CAS) system in this paper, has the potential to provide users with beyond-line-of-sight sensing capabilities. We mainly focus on three primary aspects, namely, the information-theoretic framework, the optimal distribution of channel input, and the optimal waveform design for Gaussian signals. First, we establish the information-theoretic framework and develop a modified source-channel separation theorem (MSST) tailored for CAS systems. The proposed MSST elucidates the relationship between achievable distortion, coding rate, and communication channel capacity in cases where the distortion metric is separable for sensing and communication (S&C) processes. Second, we present an optimal channel input design for dual-functional signaling, which aims to minimize CAS distortion under the constraints of the MSST and resource budget. We then conceive a two-step Blahut-Arimoto (BA)-based optimal search algorithm to numerically solve the functional optimization problem. Third, in light of the current signaling strategy, we further propose an optimal waveform design for Gaussian signaling in multi-input multi-output (MIMO) CAS systems. The associated covariance matrix optimization problem is addressed using a successive convex approximation (SCA)-based waveform design algorithm. Finally, we provide numerical simulation results to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms and to show the unique performance tradeoff between S&C processes. Recent years have witnessed the evolution of WiFi technologies, accompanied by the emergence and progress of WiFi-based sensing applications. However, the advancement of the IEEE 802.11 standards has brought along new features to mainstream commodity WiFi devices that may invalidate existing state-of-the-art methods, which has become one of the main challenges for real-life adoption of WiFi sensing. Therefore, it is essential to ensure WiFi sensing keep in step with the latest WiFi standards. In this paper, we uncover the new features on commodity WiFi 6E devices dissimilar from legacy IEEE 802.11n/ac/ax devices that most existing works focus on. We conduct experiments to find the reasons and behavior patterns of the new features (i.e., the four-way phase ambiguity) and propose our solutions accordingly. We take the fine-grained respiration sensing as a demonstration, and experimental results verify the effectiveness of our approach. Our approach is not application-specific so it could also benefit other WiFi sensing applications.

This paper addresses the design of the receive combining matrix in a multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) downlink system, where the base station (BS) employs symbol-level precoding (SLP) to transmit multiple data streams to multiple users with multiple antennas. Unlike in the single-antenna user scenario, the design of the receive combining matrix becomes crucial in this context. To overcome the challenge of the receive combining matrix's dependency on the transmit signals, we propose a practical scheme utilizing the interference rejection combiner (IRC) for signal decoding. However, directly applying the IRC receiver to the considered MU-MIMO system presents challenges due to the rank-one transmit precoding matrix. To address this issue, we propose a new regularized IRC (RIRC) receiver. The problem is tackled by using the alternating optimization (AO) method, enabling the derivation of an optimal solution structure for the transmit precoding matrix. Numerical results demonstrate the substantial performance gain of the practical SLP scheme with the RIRC receiver over conventional Block Diagonalization (BD) based approach.

In this paper, a new dual frequency filter based on step impedance resonator is proposed. In indoor integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems, angle of arrival (AoA) estimation for moving targets via reflected signals plays an important role in passive sensing. It is a challenging task in the presence of multiple static paths which cause significant interference to AoA estimation for dynamic paths. In this paper, we propose a subspace algorithm that achieves accurate AoA estimation for multiple targets using static communication transceivers in general indoor scenarios. We first use a complex vector to model static paths as a merged static path. Then we design a conditional pseudo-likelihood probability density function (PDF) based on the projection matrix of the signal subspace to bridge the signal subspace with the merged static path and AoAs of dynamic paths. We propose to utilize the Particle Filter to track merged static path and AoAs of dynamic paths via signal subspace. Thereby, the interference caused by static path signals can be eliminated and the accurate AoA estimation results are obtained. Simulation results are provided and validate the proposed algorithm.

Along with the advancement of WiFi technologies, commodity devices of WiFi 6E have now prevailed. In this paper, we conduct a wireless sensing task that utilizes WiFi 6E devices to monitor the respiration pattern of a human being. We discover new features, as well as their causes, in the channel state information (CSI) measured from WiFi 6E devices, which significantly differ from those in legacy IEEE 802.11n/ac/ax devices. As a result, directly applying conventional sensing techniques based on the CSI hardly yields satisfactory performance. In response, we propose a new method that effectively rectifies the measurement defects and recovers the targeted signal. We carry out extensive experiments, the results of which show that our approach substantially outperforms state-of-the-art benchmarks in sensing accuracy, verifying the effectiveness of our scheme.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has been considered a key feature of next-generation wireless networks. This paper investigates the joint design of the radar receive filter and dual-functional transmit waveform for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) ISAC system. While optimizing the mean square error (MSE) of the radar receive spatial response and maximizing the achievable rate at the communication receiver, besides the constraints of full-power radar receiving filter and unimodular transmit sequence, we control the maximum range sidelobe level, which is often overlooked in existing ISAC waveform design literature, for better radar imaging performance. To solve the formulated optimization problem with convex and nonconvex constraints, we propose an inexact augmented Lagrangian method (ALM) algorithm. For each subproblem in the proposed inexact ALM algorithm, we custom-design a block successive upper-bound minimization (BSUM) scheme with closed-form solutions for all blocks of variable to enhance the computational efficiency. Convergence analysis shows that the proposed algorithm is guaranteed to provide a stationary and feasible solution. Extensive simulations are performed to investigate the impact of different system parameters on communication and radar imaging performance.
