The rapid dissemination of information across social networks, online news portals, and digital platforms has given rise to a pervasive issue - fake news. This misinformation, deliberately propagated by groups with ulterior motives, has the potential to divert societies in alarming directions. In a digital landscape inundated with millions of daily stories, distinguishing fact from fabrication has become a formidable challenge, casting a dark cloud of uncertainty over the information age. In response to this critical issue, this paper presents an innovative approach for enhanced fake news detection through the fusion of deep learning and Repeat Vector representations. In an era where individuals of all ages increasingly rely on online news sources, the dissemination of misinformation has become an alarming norm. It is a challenge to discern deceptive narratives that aim to sow discord and create undue *** confront this challenge head-on, we propose a deep neural network model that combines Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) architectures using the Repeat Vector method. This hybrid model excels in deciphering complex patterns within 1D data, effectively tackling the menace of fake news. Our rigorous evaluation demonstrates that our proposed model outperforms contemporary methods, achieving an impressive validation accuracy of up to 98.94% on our *** a world increasingly plagued by misinformation, our approach represents a significant stride toward safeguarding the integrity of information in the digital age. © 2024 IEEE.

Plants affect economy, agriculture industry and climate of any country. Therefore it is very important to take care of plants. Like human being, plants are also infected by various disease that are resulted from virus, bacteria, and fungi. It is necessary to identify these diseases in time and cure them immediately to counteract the destruction of whole plant. In recent times, deep learning networks have attained tremendous improvement in classifying image and detecting object. Therefore, in our research, some pre-Trained Convolution Neural Networks (AlexNet, VGG16, VGG19) have been utilised along with transfer learning for detecting plant diseases. First of all, pre-processing technique has been applied to improve image quality and increase the accuracy. After the training process, testing has been done for validating the results. To train these models, PlantVillage dataset has been used which contains both diseased and healthy leaves. 80% data has been utilised in training step and other 20% has been used in testing. In this research, precision, recall and f1-score are also computed besides the accuracy. Using AlexNet, VGG16, and VGG19 96.63%, 95.05%, and 95.22% testing accuracy have been achieved respectively. As we can see that among all models the modified AlexNet performed best and got 96.63% as accuracy, 92 % as precision, 91 % as recall, and 91 % as f1-score. © 2024 IEEE.

Student engagement refers to the level of involve-ment, interest, attention, and active participation that students demonstrate during their learning experiences. As the engage-ment rate increases the learning rate, teachers always try to mea-sure the engagement rate in the classroom in various ways. This paper introduces a multimodal approach for detecting student engagement, a vital aspect of effective learning. Leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), video and audio data are integrated to capture comprehensive insights into engagement levels. The objective is to classify student engagement into three categories: highly engaged, engaged, and not engaged. Separate unimodal models are employed for speech and video data., achieving notable accuracies of 92.87 % and 94.77 %, respectively, in recognizing engagement levels. The combined model, achieved through feature-level fusion, yields a competitive accuracy of 69.36%, benefiting from the strengths of both modalities. Al-though the combined model exhibits slightly lower test accuracy compared to the individual speech and video models, its enhanced interpretability and comprehensive insights make it a promising avenue for future research. © 2023 IEEE.

Over-the-air computation (AirComp) has emerged as an essential approach for enabling communication-efficient federated learning (FL) over wireless networks. Nonetheless, the inherent analog transmission mechanism in AirComp-based FL (AirFL) intensifies challenges posed by potential Byzantine attacks. In this paper, we propose a novel Byzantine-robust FL paradigm for over-the-air transmissions, referred to as federated learning with secure adaptive clustering (FedSAC). FedSAC aims to protect a portion of the devices from attacks through zero trust architecture (ZTA) based Byzantine identification and adaptive device clustering. By conducting a one-step convergence analysis, we theoretically characterize the convergence behavior with different device clustering mechanisms and uneven aggregation weighting factors for each device. Building upon our analytical results, we formulate a joint optimization problem for the clustering and weighting factors in each communication round. To facilitate the targeted optimization, we propose a dynamic Byzantine identification method using historical reputation based on ZTA. Furthermore, we introduce a sequential clustering method, transforming the joint optimization into a weighting optimization problem without sacrificing the optimality. To optimize the weighting, we capitalize on the penalty convex-concave procedure (P-CCP) to obtain a stationary solution. Numerical results substantiate the superiority of the proposed FedSAC over existing methods in terms of both test accuracy and convergence rate. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Vehicle-based traffic speed forecasting aims to predict the average speed of vehicles on the road in the future, which is an essential side information in intelligent vehicles and beneficial to safe autonomous driving, yet is very challenging due to the complex and dynamic spatio-temporal dependencies in real-world vehicle-based traffic. To extract intricate correlations among multiple vehicle-based speed time series, previous methods have used graph convolution networks. However, the conventional static and dynamic graphs fail to reflect the traffic evolution and the hysteresis spatial influence caused by vehicle movement. To address this issue, we propose a novel cross-time dynamic graph-based deep learning model, named CDGNet, for vehicle-based traffic speed forecasting. The model is able to effectively capture hysteresis spatial dependencies between each time slice and its historical time slices through the cross-time dynamic graph-based GCN. Meanwhile, a gating mechanism is integrated into our cross-time dynamic graph, which conforms to the sparse correlation in the real world. Besides, GCNs are incorporated into a novel encoder-decoder architecture to forecast multi-step speed. Experimental results on three real-world vehicle-based traffic speed datasets demonstrate the superiority of our CDGNet over various state-of-the-art spatio-temporal forecasting methods and the effectiveness of each component. We additionally provide a visualization of our cross-time dynamic graph to show the capability of assisting intelligent vehicles to avoid congestion. IEEE

This study presents an overview on intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)-enabled sensing and communication for the forthcoming sixth-generation(6G) wireless networks, in which IRSs are strategically deployed to proactively reconfigure wireless environments to improve both sensing and communication(S&C) performance. First, we exploit a single IRS to enable wireless sensing in the base station's(BS's) non-line-of-sight(NLoS) area. In particular, we present three IRS-enabled NLoS target sensing architectures with fully-passive, semi-passive, and active IRSs, respectively. We compare their pros and cons by analyzing the fundamental sensing performance limits for target detection and parameter estimation. Next, we consider a single IRS to facilitate integrated sensing and communication(ISAC), in which the transmit signals at the BS are used for achieving both S&C functionalities, aided by the IRS through reflective beamforming. We present joint transmit signal and receiver processing designs for realizing efficient ISAC, and jointly optimize the transmit beamforming at the BS and reflective beamforming at the IRS to balance the fundamental performance tradeoff between S&C. Furthermore, we discuss multi-IRS networked ISAC, by particularly focusing on multi-IRS-enabled multi-link ISAC, multi-region ISAC, and ISAC signal routing, respectively. Finally, we highlight various promising research topics in this area to motivate future work.

Schizophrenia is a severe neurological disease where a patient’s perceptions of reality are disrupted. Its symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, and profoundly strange thinking and behavior, which make the patient’s daily functions difficult. Despite identifying genetic variations linked to Schizophrenia, causative genes involved in pathogenesis and expression regulations remain unknown. There is no particular way in life sciences for diagnosing Schizophrenia. Commonly used machine learning and deep learning are data-oriented. They lack the ability to deal with uncertainty in data. Belief Rule Based Expert System (BRBES) methodology addresses various categories of uncertainty in data with evidential reasoning. Previous researches showed the association of DNA methylation (DNAm) with risk of Schizophrenia. Whole blood DNAm data, hence, is useful for smart diagnosis of Scizophrenia. However, to our knowledge, no previous studies have investigated the performance of BRBES to diagnose Schizophrenia. Therefore, in this study, we explore BRBES’ performance in diagnosing Schizophrenia using whole blood DNAm data. BRBES was optimized by gradient-free algorithms due to the limitations of gradient-based optimization. Classification thresholds were optimized to yield better results. Finally, we compared performance to two machine learning models after 5-fold cross-validation where our model achieved the highest average sensitivity (76.8%) among the three. © 2023, ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

Plant diseases pose a significant threat to global food security by limiting access to safe and abundant food sources while impacting agricultural productivity and food safety. To address this challenge, innovative disease detection techniques are crucial. This paper presents a novel approach to tomato leaf disease detection grounded in deep transfer learning. We employ convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to recognize and categorize diseases, leveraging pre-trained models such as EfficientNetB3, Xception, and mobileNetV2. Our experimental results highlight the efficacy of these models, with the CNN achieving an accuracy of 0.92, mobileNetV2 at 0.93, Xception at 0.94 and EfficientNetB3 at 0.993. By combining these machine learning techniques with image processing methods, we create a system capable of diagnosing tomato leaf diseases promptly. The system employs image processing techniques to facilitate disease recognition, enabling automated disease identification as soon as symptoms manifest on leaves or plants. This empowers farmers with timely information and appropriate treatment options, ultimately leading to precise disease management. Furthermore, our research delves into model interpretability by employing Saliency maps and Grad-CAM techniques, providing valuable insights into the decision-making process of our deep learning models. This transparency enhances the trustworthiness of the AI-driven disease detection system, fostering its practical application in agriculture. © 2023 IEEE.

The proliferation of digital communication and social media platforms has led to an upsurge in spam messages across various languages, including Bangla. These intrusive messages not only cause user annoyance but also elevate the risk of important messages going unnoticed. To address this concern, we harnessed the power of natural language processing (NLP) techniques in conjunction with machine-learning models. This study delves into the efficacy of diverse machine-learning and deep-learning models in detecting spam messages in the Bangla language. Particularly, deep-learning methodologies such as ELMo and BERT have exhibited promising results in spam detection across other languages. However, the realm of Bangla spam detection remains underexplored, with a dearth of deep-learning approaches. To bridge this gap, we constructed a unique Bangla SMS dataset, given the scarcity of available Bangla Spam SMS datasets, and proceeded to evaluate the performance of ELMo, BERT, and conventional machine learning models. The findings from our experiments underscore the superior performance of deep learning-based models over traditional methods, with Elmo surpassing BERT in Bangla spam detection, achieving an impressive accuracy of approximately 94%. This endeavor bears the potential to not only enhance SMS utilization efficiency but also bolster cybersecurity measures against phishing attacks. © 2023 IEEE.

Prior study has developed the RouteSegmentation algorithm to identify the perimeter area surrounding a route. In this study, a comparative experiment was carried out to investigate the performance of the RouteSegmentation algorithm implementation in contrast to the RouteBoxer algorithm. Both algorithms play a crucial role in geographical information systems (GIS), particularly in enhancing navigational tools by identifying points of interest along specified routes. Through systematic experimentation using various perimeter distance values and types of route, the trade-offs between processing efficiency and the granularity of the area identified by these algorithms were evaluated. The results demonstrate that RouteSegmentation maintained relatively consistent performance across different perimeter distance values and statistically significantly faster processing time than RouteBoxer. Furthermore, while the RouteBoxer algorithm benefits from larger perimeter distance values by reducing processing time, it compromises the coverage results of the algorithm and potentially undermines its usefulness in practical scenarios. This study not only provides insights into the optimal use of perimeter distance values for each algorithm but also guides users in selecting the appropriate algorithm based on their specific application needs, balancing detailed geographical analysis and runtime efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.
