Dynamics of a neuron exposed to integer-and fractional-order discontinuous external magnetic flux

We propose a modified Fitzhugh-Nagumo neuron(MFNN) model. Based on this model, an integerorder MFNN system(case A) and a fractional-order MFNN system(case B) were investigated. In the presence of electromagnetic induction and radiation, memductance and induction can show a variety of distributions. Fractionalorder magnetic flux can then be considered. Indeed, a fractional-order setting can be acceptable for non-uniform diffusion. In the case of an MFNN system with integer-order discontinuous magnetic flux, the system has chaotic and non-chaotic attractors. Dynamical analysis of the system shows the birth and death of period doubling, which is a sign of antimonotonicity. Such a behavior has not been studied previously in the dynamics of neurons. In an MFNN system with fractional-order discontinuous magnetic flux, different attractors such as chaotic and periodic attractors can be observed. However, there is no sign of antimonotonicity.

This paper presents a new analysis method to design an observer- based control for a class of mismatched uncertain time-delay system with mismatched uncertainties in the output matrix. One of the contributions is to estimate the current true value of the system state variables, avoiding the effect of the delayed and noised measurement output. Linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach is used to design the observer-based control. The control and observer gains matrices are characterized using the solution of the LMI existence condition. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.

In this paper, three novel algorithms for optimisation based on the differential evolution algorithm are devised. The main idea behind those algorithms stems from the observation that differential evolution dynamics can be modelled via complex networks. In our approach, the individuals of the population are modelled by the nodes and the relationships between them by the directed lines of the graph. Subsequent analysis of non-trivial topological features further influence the process of parent selection in the mutation step and replace the traditional approach which is not reflecting the complex relationships between individuals in the population during evolution. This approach represents a general framework which can be applied to various kinds of differential evolution algorithms. We have incorporated this framework with the three well-performing variants of differential evolution algorithms to demonstrate the effectiveness of our contribution with respect to the convergence rate. Two well-known benchmark sets (including 49 functions) are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms. Experimental results and statistical analysis indicate that the enhanced algorithms perform better or at least comparable to their original versions. Copyright © 2018 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This paper proposes the PI sliding mode control approach in order to control the nonlinear multiple-input-multiple-output active magnetic bearing system in flywheel. A nonlinear model of a one degree of freedom (DOF) active magnetic bearing system in flywheel obtained using Lagrange’s equation is proposed. In this model, the current in each coil is treated as a state variable and the control input is the voltage applied to each coil, this approach offers more advantages than current control input approach. The proportional and integral switching surface is constructed for active magnetic bearing system to improve system dynamic performance in reaching intervals. The robust controller is proposed by the reaching law method to assure that the rotor stays close at the desired displacement even when disturbance and dynamic effect of rotating are taken into considering. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

Power-system load-frequency control by variable structure controller is proposed. To ease the design effort and improve the performance of the controller, second order variable structure control combine with integral sliding is developed. Overall system is asymptotically stable, for all admissible system parametric uncertainties, when all the local load frequency controllers are working together. simulations confirm that the proposed second order variable structure control can rebalance power and resynchronize bus frequencies after a disturbance with significantly improved transient performance. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

The load frequency control (LFC) problem for Isolated Power System is considered from the viewpoint of optimal control theory. However, the practical implementation of the optimal controller requires the measurement of all the state variables. This is a serious limitation because of the difficulties involved in their measurement. Output feedback will allow us to design plant controllers of any desired structure. This is another reason for preferring it over full-state feedback. In the regulator problem, we are interested in obtaining good time responses as well as in the stability of the closed-loop system. Therefore, we shall select a performance criterion in the time domain. The simulation results indicate that the proposed control scheme works well. In addition, they show that the controlled system is robust to bounded input disturbances acting on the system. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

Recent research has shown that multi-modal learning is a successful method for enhancing classification performance by mixing several forms of input, notably in speech-emotion recognition (SER) tasks. However, the difference between the modalities may affect SER performance. To overcome this problem, a novel approach for multi-modal SER called 3M-SER is proposed in this paper. The 3M-SER leverages multi-head attention to fuse information from multiple feature embeddings, including audio and text features. The 3M-SER approach is based on the SERVER approach but includes an additional fusion module that improves the integration of text and audio features, leading to improved classification performance. To further enhance the correlation between the modalities, a LayerNorm is applied to audio features prior to fusion. Our approach achieved an unweighted accuracy (UA) and weighted accuracy (WA) of 79.96% and 80.66%, respectively, on the IEMOCAP benchmark dataset. This indicates that the proposed approach is better than SERVER and recent methods with similar approaches. This paper presents the results of one power system working over one day by running three algorithms, including Dragonfly algorithm (DA), Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) and the self-organizing migrating algorithm (SOMA). The power system is optimally operated by determining status Pump and status Generation together with the power outputs as the status Generation is selected. The cost of one thermal power plant is used as an objective function to evaluate the three applied algorithms. On the other hand, almost all constraints are from one pumped-storage hydro plant, and valid solutions must satisfy these considered constraints. As a result, SOMA is the best method with the lowest cost and the best stability. For every researcher, uncertainties connected to the Smart Grid and Distribution Network are a common element. Thousands of sources are part of the renewable energy system and they are situated at varying distances. In due course, certain sources may be inefficient, or a natural disaster can destroy the source causing power supply failures or require routine maintenance to improve service. Some of these defects grow slowly and some have a strong impact. The systems, however, contain safety components to remove the problem, but impact the generation of electricity and conduct intelligent grid errors. An intelligent microgrid should feature an intelligent fault location detection and fault removal device to avoid unwanted loads and insecurities. This research shaped a smart grid system, together with a defective technique to identify uncertainty efficiently. The originality of this research is to model an SMG based on an isolated small area's SGC mechanism in conjunction with a defective detecting system to manage uncertainties in an efficient way. The FLD technique is focused upon wavelet trigger signal and mathematical morphology method. In this approach, the wavelet activator signal created by the equivalent current or voltage for a short period of time is simulated to go to both terminals to determine that the fault takes place in the short branch using the mathematical morphological technique. The SMG modeled system is separated into a few branches for the FLD system. A smart technique is presented via mixed human machine interface (HMI) for SMG performance and FLD monitoring. The integrated process of the SMG system modeling in the MATLAB performance validation simulation platform. © 2021 IEEE.

Sustainable societies will require innovative technical solutions to fulfil the mounting demand for water and energy to support urban lifestyles. Meeting the challenges of the water-energy nexus requires the implementation of sustainable technologies such as photovoltaics, solar desalination, and their integrated solutions, to meet a growing demand. The novelty of the present work is to utilizing the waste heat in proposed photovoltaic thermal (PVT) based hybrid desalination system with a step-wise solar still (SSS) and humidification-dehumidification (HD) desalination is being studied with an emphasis on life cycle assessment and techno-economic analysis of the proposed configuration. Life cycle studies reveal that the average energy production factor (EPF) is 14.84, the average life cycle conversion efficiency (LCCE) is 72.82 % over a 25-year life span, and the energy payback time (EPBT) is about 1.9 years on an energy basis with an average thermal efficiency of 77.72 %. The significance of hybrid systems for sustainable development has been highlighted, along with the possibility of 4.53 tons of CO 2 reduction and 389.58 USD in carbon credits that can be obtained annually for a typical solar radiation of 610 W/m 2 by deploying this hybrid system.
