SPECTRAL PROPERTIES OF THE NEUMANN-POINCARÉ OPERATOR IN 3D ELASTICITY

We consider the double layer potential (Neumann-Poincaré) operator appearing in 3-dimensional elasticity. We show that the recent result about the polynomial compactness of this operator for the case of a homogeneous media follows without additional calculations from previous considerations by Agranovich ***., based upon pseudodifferential operators. Further on, we define the NP operator for the case of a nonhomogeneous isotropic media and show that its properties depend crucially on the character of non-homogeneity. If the Lamé parameters are constant along the boundary, the NP operator is still polynomially compact. On the other hand, if these parameters are not constant, two or more intervals of continuous spectrum may appear, so the NP operator ceases to be polynomially compact. However, after a certain modification, it becomes polynomially compact again. APPROXIMATE BAYESIAN INFERENCE OF DIRECTED ACYCLIC GRAPHS IN BIOLOGY WITH FLEXIBLE PRIORS ON EDGE STATES

Graphical models or networks describe the statistical dependence among multiple variables and are widely used in biology (e.g., gene regulatory networks). Under appropriate assumptions, directed edges may represent causal relationships. A key feature of a biological network is sparsity, defined by how likely an edge is present, of which we often have some knowledge. However, most existing Bayesian methods use priors for the entire graph, making it difficult to specify the level of sparsity. The few methods that use priors on edges estimate the two directions independently;the sum of the two probabilities can exceed 1. Here, we present baycn (BAYesian Causal Network), a novel approximate Bayesian method that represents a graph in terms of three states of edges: the two directions and edge absence, and specifies priors on these edge states. We design a pseudo Bayesian sampling algorithm for efficient inference. We apply baycn to two genomic problems: i) distinguishing direct and indirect target genes of genetic variants, using these variants as instrumental variables, and ii) inferring combinatorial binding of highly-correlated transcription factors in Drosophila. In both cases and in extensive simulations, our method demonstrates much improved accuracy over existing methods for the whole graph and for individual edges. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Bribery in Rating Systems: A Game-Theoretic Perspective

Rating systems play a vital role in the exponential growth of service-oriented markets. As highly rated online services usually receive substantial revenue in the markets, malicious sellers seek to boost their service evaluation by manipulating the rating system with fake ratings. One effective way to improve the service evaluation is to hire fake rating providers by bribery. The fake ratings given by the bribed buyers influence the evaluation of the service, which further impacts the decision-making of potential buyers. In this paper, we study the bribery of a rating system with multiple sellers and buyers via a game-theoretic perspective. In detail, we examine whether there exists an equilibrium state in the market in which the rating system is expected to be bribery-proof: no bribery strategy yields a strictly positive gain. We first collect real-world data for modeling the bribery problem in rating systems. On top of that, we analyze the problem of bribery in a rating system as a static game. From our analysis, we conclude that at least a Nash equilibrium can be reached in the bribery game of rating systems. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

It is known that if the boundary of a planar domain is smooth enough, it has eigenvalues converging to two different points determined by Lamé parameters. We show that eigenvalues converge at a polynomial rate on smooth boundaries and the convergence rate is determined by smoothness of the boundary. Adaptive test for ergodic diffusions plus noise

We propose some parametric tests for ergodic diffusion-plus-noise model, which is a version of state-space modelling in statistics for stochastic diffusion equations. The test statistics are classified into three types: likelihood-ratio-type test statistic;Wald-type one;and Rao-type one. All the test statistics are constructed with quasi-likelihood-functions for local mean sequence of noised observation. We also simulate the behaviour of them for several practical hypothesis tests and check the convergence in law of test statistics under null hypotheses and consistency of the test under alternative ones. We apply the method for real data analysis of wind data, and examine some sets of the hypotheses mainly with respect to the structure of diffusion coefficient. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. Quasi-likelihood analysis of an ergodic diffusion plus noise

We consider adaptive maximum-likelihood-type estimators and adaptive Bayes-type ones for discretely observed ergodic diffusion processes with observation noise whose variance is constant. The quasi-likelihood functions for the diffusion and drift parameters are introduced and the polynomial-type large deviation inequalities for those quasi-likelihoods are shown to see the convergence of moments for those estimators. Video motion capture from the Part Confidence Maps of multi-camera images by spatiotemporal filtering using the human skeletal model

— This paper discusses video motion capture, namely, 3D reconstruction of human motion from multi-camera images. After the Part Confidence Maps are computed from each camera image, the proposed spatiotemporal filter is applied to deliver the human motion data with accuracy and smoothness for human motion analysis. The spatiotemporal filter uses the human skeleton and mixes temporal smoothing in two-time inverse kinematics computations. The experimental results show that the mean per joint position error was 26.1mm for regular motions and 38.8mm for inverted motions. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper mainly studies data-based parameter calibration of the computed tomography (CT) system. By establishing a least squares algorithm model, CT system parameters were calibrated. First, the attenuation coefficient is calculated from the known data, and the relationship between the received information and the pitch of the X-ray transmission template is obtained by using the Lambert-beers principle. Then, by using the geometric relationship between the ray and the two-dimensional graph, the relationship model between the pitch and the variable to be sought is established. On this basis, we can get the multivariate linear equations which present the received information and the variables to be solved. Finally, the least square method is used to establish the target programming model which is based on the minimum square sum of the fitting value and the actual value of the received information. By using the genetic algorithm, the multiple linear equations are solved. Meanwhile, the deflection center and receiver unit spacing can be obtained. © 2018 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

In this paper, we extend the structure-preserving interpolatory model reduction framework, originally developed for linear systems, to structured bilinear control systems. Specifically, we give explicit construction formulae for the model reduction bases to satisfy different types of interpolation conditions. First, we establish the analysis for transfer function interpolation for single-input single-output structured bilinear systems. Then, we extend these results to the case of multi-input multi-output structured bilinear systems by matrix interpolation.
