This position paper summarizes the inputs of a group of experts from academia and industry presenting their view on chances and challenges of using ChatGPT within modeling and simulation education. The experts also address the need to evaluate continuous education as well as education of faculty members to address scholastic challenges and opportunities while meeting the expectation of industry. Generally, the use of ChatGPT is encouraged, but it needs to be embedded into an updated curriculum with more emphasis on validity constraints, systems thinking, and ethics.

Generation of Laminar Vortex Rings by an Impulsive Body Force

It is shown that laminar vortex rings can be generated by impulsive body forces having particular spatial and temporal characteristics. The method produces vortex rings in a fluid initially at rest, and once generated, the flow field automatically satisfies the boundary conditions and is divergence-free. Numerical simulations and analytical models show that the strength of these rings can be accurately predicted by considering diffusion alone, despite the nonlinear nature of the generation process. A particularly simple model, which approximates the source of vorticity within vertical slabs, is proposed. This model predicts the ring circulation almost as accurately as a model which uses the exact geometry of the source of vorticity. It is found that when the duration of the force is less than a time scale based on the force radius and fluid viscosity, the ring circulation can be predicted accurately using an inviscid model. © 2023, CC0.

Millimeter wave (mmWave) and terahertz (THz) communication protocols employ extensive antenna arrays to ensure reliable signal reception. However, aligning these narrow beams incurs a significant cost in beam training, which increases proportionally with the number of antennas. While beam prediction methods based on semantics from the RGB images demonstrate initial feasibility, they are still low on accuracy. Motivated by the fact that the recently introduced Segment Anything Model (SAM) can generate very accurate masks, which can be considered semantic information in this domain, this study proposes a beam prediction solution based on the masks of SAM. The SAM can extract more accurate semantic data from visual sources. Then instead of using the RGB images directly, the semantics images have been used to predict the beamforming vector using a lightweight LeNet5 model. The experimental results show that the SAM-based proposed method can perform significantly better than the two state-of-the-art deep learning models. The proposed solution method can achieve near 100% in top-5 beam prediction accuracy in real-world communication scenarios.

This article shows that one of the most important directions in the development of information communication systems (ICS) is the construction of new generations of wireless technologies. Including such a direction is important for the creation of information technology support systems and decision-making for the management of critical infrastructure objects. It is shown that increasing the bit rate of the coded video stream is a relevant area of research. Such an advantage is proposed to be formed on the basis of structural and positional coding of segments of dynamic objects. A model for evaluating the informativeness of a transformant is created based on the fact that it is represented in the spectral space according to an uneven diagonal scheme. The construction of the information technology of the code representation of diagonals in the structural-positional space of transformants is considered.

Leveraging Intel SGX to enable trusted and privacy preserving membership service in distributed ledgers

Distributed ledger technology (DLT) provides decentralised services by removing the need of trust among distributed nodes in the distributed system. Transactions across the network are visible to all participants. However, some transactions may contain sensitive information such as business contracts or even personal health records. To protect user privacy, the architecture of distributed multi-channel ledger with membership service as a critical component can be adopted. The proposed multi-channel membership service architecture combines two promising technologies, distributed ledger and Intel Software Guard Extensions (SGX). With SGX remote attestation and isolated execution, each node is enrolled as a trusted entity to the channels, which separate different applications and provide better flexibility. We propose security properties for membership service in distributed ledger and illustrate how SGX help to achieve these properties in each phase. Security analysis and evaluation show that the proposed architecture could enhance the privacy preservation and capabilities against attacks. Copyright © 2021 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

This work presents performance investigation of the impact of different substrates on GaN-HEMTs, with an emphasis on important parameters including drain current, transconductance, and cut-off frequency. GaN-HEMT device with gate length of 200 nm and gate width of 100 μm was used to study the device performance using different substrates such as 6H-SiC, Al 2 O 3 , GaN, and β-Ga 2 O 3 . It has been observed that β-Ga 2 O 3 , shows excellent device performance with a maximum drain current of 1.21 A/mm, a peak transconductance of 262.46 mS/mm, and a cut-off frequency of 50.59 GHz. These findings demonstrate that β-Ga 2 O 3 can be used as a suitable substrate for improving GaN-HEMT performance, especially for high frequency high power application.

In this work, we investigate the impact of various passivation layers on electrical characteristics of T-gate GaN HEMT. Passivation schemes with single passivation layer of SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , HfO 2 , and stacked HfO 2 /SiO 2 with and without air gap have been investigated. The air gap between the gate and the low-k passivation layer effectively reduces the gate capacitance, thereby enhancing the RF characteristics of the device. A 200 nm gate length and 100 μm width are used to simulate the device. The passivation layer of SiO 2 with air gap, due to improved transconductance and gate capacitances exhibits a cut-off frequency of 39.22 GHz and a maximum oscillation frequency of 51.6 GHz. Results clearly shows that AlGaN/GaN HEMT having SiO 2 with an air gap is most suitable for RF applications.

Standard density functional theory (DFT) molecular dynamic (MD) simulations are prohibitively expensive in terms ofcompute time and memory requirements when the size of the physical system is larger than several hundred *** alternate approach is to develop a deep learning neural network potential that can accurately reproduce DFTenergies within an error of several 10s of meVs. Neural network potentials thus allow large-scale MD simulations formuch longer times than can be achieved with DFT-MD, but with comparable accuracy. We have used the recentlypublished DeePMD [1] formalism to develop potentials for systems relevant to modeling proton transport onfunctionalized graphane. We have used DFT-MD calculations for small structures of graphane and graphanol astraining data to build reliable machine-learned potentials. Apart from energies and forces, vibrational and thermalproperties such as phonon dispersion relations and thermal expansion coefficients from DFT-MD were used to validatethe accuracy of our trained DeePMD potentials. Our goal is to develop a machine learning potential that is able toaccurately predict proton conduction on graphanol in the complete absence of water. Previous DFT calculations haveshown that graphanol a promising candidate for anhydrous proton exchange membrane applications [2]. We seek toidentify large-scale and long-time proton hopping behavior for this system through the use of machine learningpotentials. © 2020 American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
