Traditional navigational bronchoscopy procedures rely on preprocedural computed tomography (CT) and intraoperative chest radiography and cone-beam CT (CBCT) to biopsy peripheral lung lesions. This navigational approach is challenging due to the projective nature of radiography, and the high radiation dose, long imaging time, and large footprints of CBCT. Digital tomosynthesis (DTS) is considered an attractive alternative combining the advantages of radiography and CBCT. Only the depth resolution cannot match a full CBCT image due to the limited angle acquisition. To address this issue, preoperative CT is a good auxiliary in guiding bronchoscopy interventions. Nevertheless, CT-to-body divergence caused by anatomic changes and respiratory motion, hinders the effective use of CT imaging. To mitigate CT-to-body divergence, we propose a novel deformable 3D/3D CT-to-DTS registration algorithm employing a multistage, multiresolution approach and using affine and elastic B-spline transformation models with bone and lung mask images. A multiresolution strategy with a Gaussian image pyramid and a multigrid strategy within the B-spline model are applied. The normalized correlation coefficient is included in the cost function for the affine model and a multimetric weighted cost function is used for the B-spline model, with weights determined heuristically. Tested on simulated and real patient bronchoscopy data, the algorithm yields promising results. Assessed qualitatively by visual inspection and quantitatively by computing the Dice coefficient (DC) and the average symmetric surface distance (ASSD), the algorithm achieves mean DC of 0.82±0.05 and 0.74±0.05, and mean ASSD of 0.65±0.29mm and 0.93±0.43mm for simulated and real data, respectively. This algorithm lays the groundwork for CT-aided intraoperative DTS imaging in image-guided bronchoscopy interventions with future studies focusing on automated metric weight setting. © 2024

simulations are used to investigate physical systems. A digital twin goes beyond this by connecting a simulation with the physical system with the purpose of analyzing and controlling that system in real-time. In the past 5 years there has been a substantial increase in research into simulation and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The combination of simulation with AI presents many possible innovations. Similarly, combining AI with simulation presents further possibilities including approaches to developing trustworthy and explainable AI methods, solutions to problems arising from sparce or no data and better methods for time series analysis. Given the progress that has been made in Digital Twins and simulation and AI, what opportunities are there from combining these two exciting research areas? What challenges need to be overcome to achieve these? This article discusses these from the perspectives of six leading members of the modeling & simulation community. © 2023 IEEE.

In this present study, the possibility of using 2,6-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-3,3-dimethylpiperidin-4-one (BCDP) as an antiviral agent against HIV was carefully evaluated. In order to achieve this, the compound BCDP was synthesized and characterized employing various spectroscopic methods including FT-IR, 13C-NMR and 1H- NMR. The theoretical calculations for the compound were carried out using the DFT using 6-311++(2d,2p) basic set and ωBD7XD functional. Both structural and electronic properties of the compound have also been studied. The frontier molecular orbital and the global reactivity descriptors were determined and the energy gap E obtained is 8.220 eV. The chemical hardness value for the BCDP obtained is 4.110 eV. In order to provide essential details concerning the non-covalent interaction of the molecules, the Hirshfeld analysis alongside finger plot has been carried out in this study. Furthermore, the NBO has been employed to provide more elucidation on charge transfer due to the inter and intramolecular interaction. Also, the antiviral potential of the BCDP compound against HIV was observed from the molecular docking studies. The docking result suggest that the drug has a good biological activity with values of -7.11, -5.9 and -7.8 kcal/mol for three different protein 5V4Y, 6IOC and 6OGP respectively. Furthermore, the SwissADME online tool was utilized to explore the pharmacokinetic and physicochemical features of the BCDP molecule. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

As artificial intelligence (AI) systems are increasingly embedded in our lives, their presence leads to interactions that shape our behaviour, decision-making, and social interactions. Existing theoretical research has primarily focused on human-to-human interactions, overlooking the unique dynamics triggered by the presence of AI. In this paper, resorting to methods from evolutionary game theory, we study how different forms of AI influence the evolution of cooperation in a human population playing the one-shot Prisoner’s Dilemma game in both well-mixed and structured populations. We found that Samaritan AI agents that help everyone unconditionally, including defectors, can promote higher levels of cooperation in humans than Discriminatory AI that only help those considered worthy/cooperative, especially in slow-moving societies where change is viewed with caution or resistance (small intensities of selection). Intuitively, in fast-moving societies (high intensities of selection), Discriminatory AIs promote higher levels of cooperation than Samaritan AIs. © 2023, CC BY.

This paper reviews the application of intelligent vision enhancement technology in the battlefield environment and explores new research directions. This paper mainly introduces three parts. First, we introduce a solution for enhancing the battlefield situation and using head-mounted displays for soldier combat. Second, we summarize three core technologies supporting intelligent vision enhancement technology: 3D environment reconstruction, tracking and registration, and situational awareness. Third, we summarize three application directions of intelligent vision enhancement technology on the battlefield. Finally, the problems and challenges in the research work are proposed, including current issues such as accurate battlefield situational awareness by augmented reality technology, multiperson collaborative management and data flow, as well as challenges in future battlefield situation enhancement and perception. The future development trend of intelligent vision enhancement technology on the battlefield has been prospected. Two meanings of this paper are as follows: the first is to review the research status of intelligent vision enhancement technology from the technical level and identify the key technical points that may restrict development in the future;the second is to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of intelligent vision enhancement technology from the level of battlefield application and the roles of users. The Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a cellular technology introduced by the Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to provide connectivity to a large number of low-cost IoT devices with strict energy consumption limitations. However, in an ultra-dense small cell network employing NB-IoT technology, inter-cell interference can be a problem, raising serious concerns regarding the performance of NB-IoT, particularly in uplink transmission. Thus, a power allocation method must be established to analyze uplink performance, control and predict inter-cell interference, and avoid excessive energy waste during transmission. Unfortunately, standard power allocation techniques become inappropriate as their computational complexity grows in an ultra-dense environment. Furthermore, the performance of NB-IoT is strongly dependent on the traffic generated by IoT devices. In order to tackle these challenges, we provide a consistent and distributed uplink power allocation solution under spatiotemporal fluctuation incorporating NB-IoT features such as the number of repetitions and the data rate, as well as the IoT device's energy budget, packet size, and traffic intensity, by leveraging stochastic geometry analysis and Mean-Field Game (MFG) theory. We present an atomic-scale mechanism based on variable-range hopping of interacting charges enabling reconfigurable logic in dopant network processing units. Kinetic Monte Carlo simulations of the hopping process show temperature-dependent current-voltage characteristics and artificially evolved basic Boolean logic gates in very good agreement with experiment. The simulations provide unique insights into the local electrostatic potential and current flow in the dopant network, showing subtle changes induced by control voltages that set the conditions for the logic operation. These insights will be crucial in the systematic further development of this burgeoning technology for unconventional computing. The establishment of the principles underlying the logic functionality of these devices encourages the exploration and utilization of the same principles in other materials and device geometries.
