The Internet of Drones (IoD) offers supervised admittance to drones in a targeted fly zone as the byproduct of the Internet of Things (IoT). The term drone is the trendy alias for Intelligent Flying Vehicle (IFV). The contemporary sensing, processing, and connectivity services enriches the use of drones in a plethora of civilian and military applications. In these applications, consumers can acquire the real-time information directly from flying drones in a smart city environment. No doubt, this feature empowers the consumers, but it is deemed critical as direct access privilege can cause serious security threats. To prevent such threats, we propose an anonymous for consumer flying vehicles in smart city application. The proposed protocol utilizes a physically unclonable function to sustain the physical security of the flying vehicles. We ratify the security fortitude and persistence of our protocol through inclusive security analysis. Whereas, we demonstrate the performance evaluation under diverse performance metrics which shows that overall our devised protocol incurs 11 . 5771 ms to complete the authentication cycle. The careful performance comparison attests to the precedence of our protocol over peer protocols. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is spreading into all walks of life and across disciplines. It is being used to explain, predict and optimize, often by creating and experimenting with models derived from data. Arguably, modeling simulation (MS) has doing this since the late 1950s. Our approaches are different to those used in AI but have some overlap. Both AI and simulation bring significant, different and potentially complementary benefits to end users. However, the majority of work is separate. Is there potential for innovation by bringing together these fields and their associated techniques? This panel explores the potential synergies of these relationships and considers major opportunities and the barriers to realization. © 2021 IEEE.

simulations are used to investigate physical systems. A digital twin goes beyond this by connecting a simulation with the physical system with the purpose of analyzing and controlling that system in real-time. In the past 5 years there has been a substantial increase in research into simulation and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The combination of simulation with AI presents many possible innovations. Similarly, combining AI with simulation presents further possibilities including approaches to developing trustworthy and explainable AI methods, solutions to problems arising from sparce or no data and better methods for time series analysis. Given the progress that has been made in Digital Twins and simulation and AI, what opportunities are there from combining these two exciting research areas? What challenges need to be overcome to achieve these? This article discusses these from the perspectives of six leading members of the modeling & simulation community.

Reconsidering spatial priors in EEG source estimation: Does white matter contribute to EEG rhythms?

Electroencephalogram (EEG) has been a core tool used in functional neuroimaging in humans for nearly a hundred years. Because it is inexpensive, easy to implement, and noninvasive, it also represents an excellent candidate modality for use in the BCI setting. Nonetheless, a complete understanding of how EEG measurements (voltage fluctuations) relate to information processing in the brain remains somewhat elusive. A deeper understanding of the neuroanatomical underpinnings of the EEG signal may help explain inter-individual variability in evoked and induced potentials, which may improve BCI therapies targeted to the individual. According to classic biophysical models, EEG fluctuations are primarily a reflection of locally synchronized neuronal oscillations within the gray matter oriented approximately orthogonal to the scalp. In contrast, global models ignore local signals due to dendritic processing, and suggest that propagation delays due to white matter architecture are responsible for the EEG signal, and are capable of explaining the coherence between numerous rhythms (e.g., alpha) at spatially distinct areas of the scalp. Recently, combined local-global models suggest that the EEG signal may reflect a superposition of local processing along with global contributors including transduction along white matter tracts in the brain. Incorporating both local and global (e.g., white matter) priors into EEG source models may therefore improve source estimates. These models may also help disentangle which aspects of the EEG signal are predicted to colocalize spatially with measurements from functional MRI (fMRI). Here, we explore the possibility that white matter conductivity contributes to EEG measurements via a generative model based on classic axonal transduction models, and discuss its potential implications for source estimation. Digital Twins have recently emerged as a major new area of innovation. Digital Twins are often found at the core of 'smart' solutions that have also emerged as major areas of innovation. modeling and simulation (MS) approaches create a model of a real-world system that is linked to data sources and is used to simulate and predict the behavior of its real-world counterpart. On the face of it Digital Twins and MS appear to be similar, if not the same. Is this actually the case? Are the two fields really separate or is Digital Twin research re-inventing the 'MS wheel'? To investigate these relationships, in this panel we will explore some contemporary innovations with Digital Twins and discuss whether or not Digital Twins is a contemporary 'refresh' or 'rebranding' of MS or if there are exciting new synergies. © 2021 IEEE.

Optimal control problem for COVID-19 with multiple time-delays in state and control

The primary motivation of this paper is to identify the most effective implementation of delayed preventive measures, including active screening and testing, mask-wearing, and vaccination for COVID-19, in a way that minimizes the number of infected and exposed individuals, and maximizes the count of recovered individuals. Our goal is to comprehend the impact of delays on the epidemic’s spread and to offer guidance to health authorities on what steps to take if they implement COVID-19 preventive measures too late. We achieve this by employing optimal control theory on a SEIR model that illustrates the dynamics between susceptible, infected, exposed, and recovered individuals within the population. We set up our optimal control problem with multiple time delays in both the state and control variables, then, we used Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle to determine the solution to the delayed optimal control problem with multiple state-control constraints. Our results of simulation show that to control epidemic propagation when preventive measures are delayed, we should take immediate action after delay phase by enforcing mask wear and starting vaccinations to cover a significant portion of the population as quickly as possible. We should then implement active screening and testing measures to further control the spread.

Seagrass meadows are constantly under threat from natural and man-made stresses due to its shallow existence in the coastal environment. Restoration and preservation of seagrasses by means of rehabilitation or transplanting strategies is possible, but the studies have been limited. An agent-based model of a mixed Philippine seagrass meadow is presented. Three species were used for testing: Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, and Cymodocea rotundata. The model features parameter-based clonal growth of seagrass species, recruitment of new seagrass apices through basic flowering/seeding, and a crowding logic for multiple coexisting species in a single meadow. Seagrass clonal growth is modeled using a modified Diffusion-Limited Aggregation (DLA) model. Each species has a preconfigured set of parameters for clonal growth including rhizome elongation, branching rate, vertical elongation rate, rhizome branching angle and shoot age. Seed recruitment is applied through occasional flowering/seeding events configurable per species. We developed a simple three-species competition model which controls the growth and direct competition effects based on a configurable population size and comparison radius. Upon further calibration and validation, the model would enable more accurate long-term predictions for different rehabilitation and transplanting strategies of mixed seagrass meadows. Further improvements can also be implemented, particularly taking into account the environmental variables within the meadows such as light attenuation and salinity, among other factors. © 2020 Authors.

On the control of a reaction–diffusion system: a class of SIR distributed parameter systems

In this paper, two types of distributed control functions, vaccine and treatment have been applied to a spatiotemporal SIR model with no-flux boundary conditions. The spatiotemporal SIR epidemic model is formulated from existing SIR epidemic model by including a diffusion term in his different compartments to study the impact of spatial heterogeneity of disease transmission in dense regions. Our main objective to find the optimal control pair that minimizes the number of infected individuals, the corresponding vaccination and treatment costs. The existence of the positive solution for the state system and the existence of a distributed optimal control pair are proved. Techniques of optimal control are used to characterize optimal control pair in terms of state and adjoint functions. The optimality system is solved numerically;the numerical results show that the control effect is effective if the treatment and vaccine strategies are used simultaneously. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Ebola is a severe disease causing death to humans and nonhuman primates. It emerged in West Africa in December 2013. According to the World Health Organization, it is one of the most infectious and deadly infectious agents in the world. Ebola outbreak seems to be a particular risk in conflict-affected contexts: we apply an optimal regional control to stop the mortality of infected people in a specific region in order to protect it from neighboring areas. We aim to define and characterize an optimal control which minimizes both, the number of infected people and the cost of treatment. The existence of the positive solution for the system is proved. We also prove the existence of an optimal control which minimizes the cost function, and we give a characterization of this control in terms of state function and adjoint function. To illustrate the effectiveness of our theoretical results, we give numerical simulations for several scenarios. The obtained results present a good framework for interventions to protect a specific region against transmission of the epidemic by neighboring regions in case of conflict. © 2019, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.
