In this paper, we present an approach for extending the existing concept of nanopublications-tiny entities of scientific results in RDF representation-to broaden their application range. The proposed extension uses English sentences to represent informal and underspecified scientific claims. These sentences follow a syntactic and semantic scheme that we call AIDA (Atomic, Independent, Declarative, Absolute), which provides a uniform and succinct representation of scientific assertions. Such AIDA nanopublications are compatible with the existing nanopublication concept and enjoy most of its advantages such as information sharing, interlinking of scientific findings, and detailed attribution, while being more flexible and applicable to a much wider range of scientific results. We show that users are able to create AIDA sentences for given scientific results quickly and at high quality, and that it is feasible to automatically extract and interlink AIDA nanopublications from existing unstructured data sources. To demonstrate our approach, a web-based interface is introduced, which also exemplifies the use of nanopublications for non-scientific content, including meta-nanopublications that describe other nanopublications. © 2013 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Chinese Medicine Pattern Differentiation and Its Implications for Clinical Practice

Chinese medicine practitioners apply the differentiation reasoning for decision-making. The wide scope of Chinese medicine intervention provides coverage of methods and techniques with applications to primary, secondary and tertiary levels of prevention. The rapid evolution of mathematical and computational techniques allowed the implementation of several models for pattern differentiation that were tested for several physiologic systems. Concurrently, it is argued that pattern differentiation might improve the efficacy of either traditional or conventional medical interventions. This article reviewed the influence of pattern differentiation into clinical practice organized by medical field： general pattern differentiation; genitourinary （recurrent cystitis）; cardiovascular （coronary heart disease; arterial hypertension; angina pectoris）; neurology （stroke）; surgery; metabolic （diabetes mellitus）; hepatic （cirrhosis）; gastrointestinal （chronic superficial gastritis）; orthopedic （low back pain; rheumatoid arthritis; cervical spondylosis; elbow arthritis）; oncology （gastric mucosal dysplasia; lung cancer）; gynecologic and obstetric manifestations （nausea and vomiting）. The reviewed studies presented achievements that have contributed to the integration of Chinese medicine and evidence-based medicine in the treatment of many mild and severe diseases. Target diseases considered as major public health problems were also investigated and the results are promising regarding the possibility to treat guided by pattern differentiation.

Asserted and neglected issues linking evidence-based and Chinese medicines for cardiac rehabilitation

High blood pressure is among the most prevalent chronic disease in adults that impacts on the quality of life of patients, which are often subjected to physical rehabilitation. Chinese medicine intervention in patients with hypertension presents promising albeit inconclu-sive results, mostly due to methodological issues. This paper discusses asserted and neglected issues linking evidence-based and Chinese medicines as related to systemic arterial hypertension, as well as their impact on the physical rehabilitation of those patients. On the one hand, natural history of hypertension, pulse palpa-tion, and herbal therapy are among the asserted issues because of the scientific evidence collected about them, either in favor or against its integration to the current medical practice. On the other hand, anatomical varia-tions of vessels and comparative physiology are among the most commonly neglected issues because previous researches on integrative medicine ignored the pos-sible effects of these issues as related to the study's outcome. The asserted issues highlighted in this paperstimulate the increasing use of Chinese medicine for health care and the continuity of research on integra-tive medicine in the cardiovascular field for rehabilita-tion. The neglected issues poses additional challenges that must not be overlooked in future research on this topic so that the integration of both traditional and cur-rent knowledge may be of benefit to the population with cardiovascular disease.

For a number of decades, among the most prevalent training media in the military has been Tactical Engagement simulation (TES) training. TES has allowed troops to train for practical missions in highly realistic combat environments without the associated risks involved with live weaponry and munitions. This has been possible because current TES has relied largely upon the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) and similar systems for a number of years for direct-fire weapons, using a laser to pair the shooter to the potential target(s). Emerging systems, on the other hand, will use a pairing method called geometric pairing (geo-pairing), which uses a set of data about both the shooter and target, such as locations, weapon orientations, velocities, and weapon projectile velocities, nearby terrain to resolve an engagement. A previous paper [1] introduces various potential sources of error for a geo-pairing solution. This paper goes into greater depth regarding the impact of errors that originate within earth model errors, beginning with a short introduction into the TES system (TESS). The next section will explain how different representations of the earth can impact the engagement resolutions within a TESS followed by a mathematical analysis demonstrating that impact. A summary and conclusion containing recommendations will close this paper.

Chronic disease is defined as a long lasting health condition, which can develop and/or worsen over an extended time, but which can also be controlled. The monetary and budgetary toll due to its persistent nature has become unsustainable and requires pressing actions to limit their incidence and burden. This paper demonstrates the utility of the System Dynamics approach to simulate the behavior of key factors involved in the implementation of chronic disease management. We model the patient flow diversion from emergency departments (ED) to patient-centered medical homes (PCMH), with emphasis on the visit rates, as well as the effect of insurance coverage, in an effort to assure continuity of quality care for Asthma patients at lower costs. The model is used as an evaluative method to identify conditions of a maintained health status through adequate policy planning, in terms of resources and capacity. This approach gives decision makers the ability to track the level of implementation of the intervention and generate knowledge about dynamics between population demands and the intervention effectiveness. The functionality of the model is demonstrated through the consideration of hypothetical scenarios executed using sensitivity analysis. © 2015, “II“.

Influenza-Like Illness(ILI)constitutes a significant global health concern characterized by its high infec-tion rates and widespread distribution *** influenza viruses,primarily types A and B,are primary contributors to ILI cases,other respiratory viruses also play a role in its ***,Indonesia's largest and densely populated city,has consistently reported a notable weekly number of ILI cases from 2016 to ***,this pattern of cases is irregular and does not exhibit a direct association with seasonal climate *** response to this complex scenario,we have developed a SLIR mathematical model featuring a cumulative generating operator in the form of a multiple-terms sigmoid function,obtained from weekly cumulative data to derive model solutions.A total of 12 terms within the sigmoid function yielded a decent fit to the actual data spanning 339 *** correlation analysis unveiled distinct temporal relationships within the model,revealing an 8-week time lag between the dynamics of the infection rate and the latent compartment,along with a 2-week lag marking the incubation period between the latent and infected ***,the effective reproduction number displayed recurrent fluctuations around a threshold of 1,indicating the endemic characteristics where infection persists within the *** in-depth comprehension of ILI trans-mission dynamics and effective reproduction numbers plays a significant role in devising control mea-sures and informed policy-making decisions.

AV-8B flight hazard awareness analysis and training using flight simulation

His engineering experience includes research and development test and evaluation and training ssystems program for numberous military and research aricraft program. Currently Mr. Calvert is employed at the Training Systems Division in Orlando where he is applying his aero-sciences knowledge as a modeling and simulation subject matter expert. Mr. Calvert holds a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering and a master's degree in engineering science. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Test Pilot School under the Flight Test Engineering curriculum. He holds a general aviation pilot's licence and has special aircrew tectical aircraft Mr. Calvert is a registered professional engineer a member of the Society of Flight Test Engineers (SFTE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the AIAA Modeling and Simulation Technical Committee. He has authored more than thirty technical reports and was the 1993 recipient of the AIAA Creater Philadelphia Chapter Award for Ground Testing and Simulation.

The V/STOL capability of the AV-8B Harrier is provided through a sophisticated combination of vectored thrust and aerodynamic technology. The proper interaction of the nozzle thrust and flap system is of extreme importance. Specific combinations of nozzle angle and flap position are employed to optimize both jet lift and aerodynamic lift. However, if the proper flap-nozzle position schedule is violated, the resulting thrust and flap impingement may cause a severe nose-down pitching moment sufficient to override the pilot control. Depending upon ground proximity, this condition creates a hazard which causes great potential for loss of aircraft and/or pilot. Flap impingement hazard was identified on the AV-8B aircraft as a potential catastrophic flight hazard. In response, a requirement was established to 1) study the severity of the flap impingement hazard on the AV-8B, 2) devise flight operational procedures which would minimize pilot exposure to the hazard potential and the resulting pilot control problems during flight, and 3) devise a training capability to familiarize pilots with flap impingement hazard characteristics and recovery procedures. This paper comprises the results of a study which utilized piloted flight simulation and fleet simulation trainers to meet these requirements.

A systematic and practical approach for diversifying a portfolio of fixed-income securities blends forward-looking simulations of the term structure of interest rates with traditional concepts from equity management. The objective is to form a well-diversified portfolio, one that is robust to anticipated changes in interest rates and other uncertainties. To achieve this objective, the dynamic effects must be jointly modeled so that security correlations (comovements) can be estimated. Once a covariance matrix is constructed, traditional methods of portfolio management can be employed. The concepts apply to a wide variety of fixed-income areas, including the high-yield sector and mortgage-backed securities.

This paper reports on research aimed at providing a more realistic simulation model of crowd behavior under both panic and non-panic conditions by modifying the Helbing-Molnar-Farkas-Vicsek (HMFV) model. Such simulations will be of great value both in operational and training contexts. Many operations deal with crowd control and accurate simulations of crowd dynamics. The approach is based on a Social Force Model which consists of two components: social interaction and physical interaction. The social interaction relies on an individual's desire for personal space and the physical interaction consists of body compression and friction. Ongoing research is aimed at the explicit incorporation of gender, ethnicity, age, and cultural differences as factors in the model to ensure broad applicability of the research to crowd control in nations other than the U.S.
