The presence of inverter based renewable resources has introducing new challenges on transmission systems due sudden loss of several MW after voltage and frequency excursions. These sudden disconnections have been related with a fault ride through control in voltage and frequency excursions following PRC-024 standard. The NERC Inverter-Based Resource Performance Task Force has expressed the necessity for a full ride-through standard with clear requirements as to how the resource can behave in terms on control and protection aspects. In consequence, this article addresses the problem to define the control and protection that can be taken under frequency and voltage excursions to avoid disconnections. For this purpose, this article proposes a new magnitude and frequency computation with computations delays under 16 ms and the use of new detection techniques to add new control and protection functions to the inverter based renewable resources.

City traffic often exhibits regional characteristics, such as large trucks frequently appearing in the suburbs, and the paths to playgrounds on weekends generally being congested. Discovering and visualizing these hidden traffic regions inside which roads share similar characteristics of traffic conditions simplifies the modeling complexities of whole city traffic conditions and therefore contributes significantly toward city planning. Unfortunately, such traffic regions always have irregular shapes and are time varying, which makes their discovery extremely complicated. In addition, establishing a method to visualize and explore the traffic regions interactively still remains challenging. In this article, the authors propose a latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA)-based approach to the discovery of underlying traffic regions (or region topics) from vehicle trajectories captured by surveillance devices installed along roadsides. They treat vehicle trajectories as documents and the values of different traffic features, such as locations, directions, speeds and vehicle types, as the corresponding words. After applying the LDA model, they obtain a list of region topics with combined feature values, in which the different feature values are clustered with probabilistic assignments. Meanwhile, they build a prototype system to explore the surveillance-device-based vehicle trajectories according to the discovered region topics. The prototype system, which consists of map view, cloud view, treemap view and matrix-table view, visualizes the feature values of hidden traffic regions. The authors finally research a real case based on the traffic data in Wenzhou City, a large city in eastern China with a population of more than nine million. They investigate approximately 157 surveillance devices and 750,000 moving vehicles. The case demonstrates the effectiveness of both their proposed approach and the prototype system. © 2016 Society for Imaging Science and Technology.

Update summarization can be a daunting task in automatic text summarization. It aims to distill evolved messages from a collection of new articles, under the assumption that the reader has already browsed the previous articles. In this paper, a number of state-of-the-art approaches were reviewed for extracting update summarization and then a method called DPC-TS was proposed. This approach is derived from the DPC-based multi-documents summarization method, which was developed in 2015. In our study, a model was established by using the topic signature algorithm, to evaluate the novelty of sentences in update documents set. In addition, the scheme of calculating similarities between sentences and sentence selection approach was improved to ensure there are diversity topics in the summary. DPC-TS update documents summarization method is a simple and effective approach, which can be reproduced and deployed in real environment. © 2016 IEEE.

complex simulation systems usually need to satisfy the credibility requirements and the credibility of complex simulation systems is inextricably linked to the credibility of simulation sub-systems. Hence, in order to guarantee the credibility of complex simulation systems meets requirements, it is necessary to allocate the credibility of simulation sub-systems. complex simulation systems are composed of several correlative simulation sub-systems and their credibility has correlation relationships, which makes it difficult to obtain the credibility of simulation sub-systems quickly. The existing works mostly ignore the relationships between the sub-systems and are difficult to generate the credibility allocation results of simulation sub-systems. In this paper, we model the credibility allocation problem as a probabilistic inference problem based on the pairwise Markov random field (PMRF). In addition, we apply several inference algorithms to perform the inference exactly and approximately in the credibility PMRF. Finally, experiments are conduted on the air defense combat complex simulation system, and the experiment results demonstrate that the proposed method can obtain the credibility allocation results quickly and accurately. © 2023 The Authors.

In recent years, researches on vocational skills are very extensive, most of them concentrated on vocational skills training, effect of vocational skill competition, vocational education and vocational skill identification and so on. But, there is very little research on the inner relationship among vocational skill based on big data. To address the issue, from LinkedIn we first collect tens of thousands of member profiles with vocational skills as empirical data. And then, we dig out high-frequency vocational skills and apply correlation analysis method to explore correlation characteristics of vocational skills. According to our studying, we figure out that there exist a large number of association rules, some of which have very high degrees of confidence, lift, and support. This research reveals the intrinsic association among different vocational skills. These relationships can reflect the general behavior and cognitive rules of human beings. We hope that our research results can provide a theoretical base for other research areas of vocational skills, such as vocational skill training, vocational skill mining, and identification of vocational skills. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

To validate the alternative simulation models and select the most credible one when the models have multivariate and correlated outputs, an intelligent ranking evaluation method of simulation models based on Graph Neural Network (GNN) is proposed. The process of ranking evaluation is divided into three parts: graph structure conversion for evaluation data, feature extraction based on Graph Representation Learning (GRL) and ranking evaluation based on feature distance. A graph structure modeling method is presented to provide the pre-define graph structure for further GRL primarily. Next the interdependencies and dynamic evolutionary patterns among variables are captured by GNN so that the graph representations of evaluation data can be obtained. Then ranking evaluation is achieved by similarity measurement of the graph representations. In the end, the effectiveness of the proposed method on feature extraction of evaluation data and simulation models ranking is illustrated through an application example on a prediction model for aerodynamic parameters of a certain flight vehicle. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Validation for complex system simulation faces the challenges of a large amount of validation data, which comes in the form of extensive samples and prolonged time series. To address this issue, this paper proposes an intelligent simulation result validation method based on Variational Autoencoder (VAE), achieving model validation through intelligent feature extraction and feature consistency metrics. Initially, we present the overall validation framework, which consists of feature extraction and simulation result validation, and detail the steps of the validation process. Subsequently, the principles and procedures of the feature extraction and simulation result validation methods are thoroughly discussed. The feature extraction is achieved by learning the distribution parameters of the latent space using a VAE model. Feature differences across various aspects are measured by three distance metrics and are further converted into simulation credibility. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of this method are demonstrated through a case study on validating a drone delivery model. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Temporary social network has been a increasing popular field in the last few years where people form a temporary social group for a short time period with common interests or purposes in the same area. When a user attends an event or conference in a new city, he/she can join the temporary social networks with his/her social account. Users who attend the same academic conference or activity may have similar interests and time schedules, so they are willing to travel together. Recently, renting cars to travel has become very common, since it helps improve user experience as well as save travel costs (e.g., renting and oil costs). Thus, we propose a group-wise itinerary planning framework to minimize the travel costs for each user in a temporary social network. Experimental results conducted on real-world data sets confirm the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed framework. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Data generated by various fields are increasing exponentially and thus results in challenges for data performances in both scales of diversity and complexity. The problem how to solve the bottlenecks of low-bandwidth networks has been of fatal significance for all kinds of network status. We present a new approach on improved optimization for data disaster recovery system (DDRS) over low-bandwidth networks that not only aims to improve the defects and deficiencies of mainstream DDRS but also helps ensure the reliable network resources for operators to conduct multi-services. A novel bandwidth self-adaptive approach (BSAA) for data packing replication was essentially established to make contribution to the integral performance improvement. A Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for predicting network status was also built to ensure system availability and stability. Experiments showed that the DDRS over low-bandwidth networks named InfoDr can effectively optimize the workload with better performance and better application self-adaptability for multi-services.

Rehabilitation and multiple limb amputations: A clinical report of patients injured in combat

This clinical report describes the outpatient rehabilitation program for patients with multiple limb amputations enrolled in the Comprehensive Combat and complex Casualty Care facility at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. Injuryspecific data for 29 of these patients wounded by blast weaponry in Afghanistan in 2010 or 2011 were captured by the Expeditionary Medical Encounter Database at the Naval Health Research Center and were reviewed for this report. Their median Injury Severity Score was 27 (N = 29;range, 11– 54). Patients averaged seven moderate to serious injuries (Abbreviated Injury Scale scores ≥2), including multiple injuries to lower limbs and injuries to the torso and/or upper limbs. All patients received care from numerous clinics, particularly physical therapy during the first 6 mo postinjury. Clinic use generally declined after the first 6 mo with the exception of prosthetic devices and repairs. The clinical team implemented the Mayo-Portland Adaptability Inventory, 4th Revision (MPAI-4) to assess functioning at outpatient program initiation and discharge (n = 23). At program discharge, most patients had improved scores for the MPAI-4 items assessing mobility, pain, and transportation, but not employment. Case reports described rehabilitation for two patients with triple amputations and illustrated multispecialty care and contrasting solutions for limb prostheses. © 2016, Rehabilitation Research and Development Service.
