Model-Driven engineering (MDE) promotes the use of models to conduct all phases of software development in an automated way. However, for complex systems, these models may become large and unwieldy, and hence difficult to process and comprehend. In order to alleviate this situation, we explore the combination of model fragmentation strategies, to split models into more manageable chunks;and model abstraction and visualization mechanisms, able to provide simpler views of the models. The feasibility of this combination is confirmed based on an evaluation over a synthetic models, and the model sets of the GraBaTs'09 contest.
Reuse techniques are key for the industrial adoption of Model-Driven engineering (MDE). However, while reusability has been successfully applied to programming languages, its use is scarce in MDE and, in particular, i...

An important aspect of designing for ubiquitous e-business applications is addressing the issues concerning user requirements and culture in which the system is to be deployed. The value of ethnographic analysis in this respect is gaining increasing acceptance. In this paper, we present an approach based on ethnography and multi-agents systems to address these issues. The usage of ethnographic approach provides an understanding of user requirements and explains the semantics, functionality and detailed business needs of e-business applications. We also stress the need of employing artificial intelligent agents that are suitable for e-business applications due to their autonomy, flexible behaviour and negotiating capabilities. Secondly, ethnographic concepts can directly be mapped onto the BDI (belief desire, intention) model of an agent. In this paper, we also demonstrate the usefulness of this approach by presenting a real life case study of a tailoring system

Since the first international conference on urban air quality, held at the University ofHertfordshire in 1996, significant advances have taken place in the field of urban air pollution. In addition to the scientific advances in the measurement, modelling and management of urban air quality, significant progress has been achieved in relation to the establishment of major frameworks to ensure a more effective mechanism for international collaboration. Two such frameworks are SATURN (Studying Atmospheric Pollution in Urban Areas) and TRAPOS (Optimisation of modelling Methods for Traffic Pollution in Streets). In response to such advances, the second international conference was held at the Technical University of Madrid in March 1999 with active participation of SATURN and TRAPOS investigators. The organisation of the conference was headed by the Institute of Physics in collaboration with the Technical University of Madrid and the University of Hertfordshire. The support of IUAPPA and AWMA ensured a truly worldwide promotion and participation. The meeting attracted 140 scientists from 26 different countries establishing it as a major forum for exchanging and discussing the latest research fmdings in this field.
