Study on Theoretical Model and Test Method of Vertical Vibration of Elevator Traction System

In order to study the dynamic characteristics of the elevator, the response characteristics of the elevator under normal operation and emergency braking conditions are analyzed. In this paper, the centralized mass discretization model is used to study the vibration characteristics of the elevator traction system under the external excitation. Firstly, the vibration equation of the elevator multi-degrees-of-freedom (abbreviated as DOF) system is established. Then, the vibration characteristics of the three DOF system are analyzed, and the natural frequencies and modes are obtained. The free vibration equation and forced vibration equation are obtained, and the theoretical solutions are obtained. Finally, the test method proposed in this paper is used to test the normal operation and emergency braking of the elevator. The test results show that, under normal operation conditions, the measured speed and distance errors are not more than 4.2%, the up running distance measured by the elevator is larger than the actual value, while the down running distance is smaller than the actual value;under emergency braking condition, because the steel wire rope can only bear the pulling force, the peak acceleration fluctuation in the up emergency braking process is large, while the down emergency braking acceleration fluctuation is small. Therefore, the elevator vibration analysis model and the vibration test method proposed in this paper can be used for the analysis of elevator dynamic performance, which has great reference value for the safety performance research of the elevator traction system.

In this paper, the relation between the von Mises equivalent stress at the concerned point and the root mean square of the excitation acceleration on the transport package under triaxial random vibration excitation is derived. The equivalence between the stress fatigue curve (σ-N curve) at the concerned point and the vibration fatigue curve (Grms-T curve) of the transport package is certificated. For the two types of damage and fatigue models commonly used in engineering, that is, the Basquin type (power function type) and the exponential function, the corresponding Grms-T equations are obtained. The time compression ratio of accelerated random vibration test for transport package is given based on the Grms-T curve, and its validity is verified by the finite element analysis of product model. As the acceleration is easy to analysis and measurement, the accelerated random vibration test technology for transport package based on the Grms-T curve has application and development potential for further researches. © 2022, Editorial Board of Journal of Vibration engineering. Curved inserts in auxetic honeycomb for property enhancement and design flexibility

Imperfect situation, like the non-uniform cross-section or non-straight profile of cell walls, can in certain case be a positive contributor for properties of cellular solids. However, auxetic cellular structures with imperfect profiles are rarely reported in the literature. Based on the re-entrant hexagonal honeycomb (RHH), this paper developed two new types of honeycombs with curved inserts and focused on the issue that how microscopic curved inserts influence the auxetic structure's macroscopic mechanical properties? Theoretical models for the in-plane equivalent elastic moduli of the two types of new honeycombs, including the Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and shear modulus, were first established, and then verified by numerical simulations. The results showed that the two types of new honeycombs possess the same ability to achieve auxeticity, in the meantime, exhibit improved Young's modulus and shear modulus compared to the RHH. Furthermore, the new honeycombs demonstrate more flexibility in design as the curved inserts can offer more geometric parameters for tailoring their macroscopic mechanical properties. The study also showed that the curved inserts played a key role in determining the dominated deformation mode of the new honeycombs, and a special dominated deformation mode intermediate between pure bending and stretching was found in these honeycombs. This work would provide a useful guide for the development and optimization of auxetic materials.

Defect detection in pipe structures using stochastic resonance of Duffing oscillator and ultrasonic guided waves

Ultrasonic guided wave based non-destructive testing is an effective method to inspect defects in long-distance pipe structures. This paper proposes a novel defect detection approach for the pipes using stochastic resonance of Duffing oscillator and ultrasonic guided waves. Stochastic resonance can improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the output signal, because it can enhance the periodic component while attenuate the noise components. A detection system is first developed based on Duffing oscillator. The echo signal between the incident signal and end echo is used as the input to the Duffing oscillator, and the normalized power spectrum of the output signal is calculated to obtain the SNR of the output signal. The SNR curve is shown versus the change of the damping ratio value. When stochastic resonance occurs, the SNR is at the peak, corresponding to the optimal value of damping ratio. With the optimal damping ratio value, the power spectrum of the output signal from the Duffing oscillator is used to detect the characteristic frequency. If there is a distinct characteristic frequency with the same excitation frequency as the guided wave excitation signal, it can be concluded that there is a defect in the pipe. Both numerical simulations and experimental studies are conducted to investigate the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed approach in defect detection in pipes. The detection results demonstrate that the prop osed approach can significantly enhance the sensitivity of using weak guided wave signals for minor defect detection in pipe structures.

The promotion of sea water and sea-sand concrete (SSC) is beneficial to alleviate the resource shortage of fresh water and river-sand, but it is easier to cause the problem of steel corrosion. Owing to good corrosion resistance of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) and stainless steel, a novel type of composite, named SSC filled stainless steel tubular columns with FRP confined SSC core (SCFCs), is proposed. In order to study the constraint effect, axial compression tests on 8 SCFC stub columns were conducted, and the influences of parameters as the shape of steel tubes, the existence of FRP tubes, the thickness and the diameter of FRP tubes were analyzed. The test results have shown that the bearing capacity and ductility of SCFCs can be improved by the inner FRP confined SWSSC. FRP contents can help alleviate the phenomenon of steel buckling and further increase the bearing capacity and restrict the dilation of specimens. With similar FRP contents, increasing the diameter of FRP tubes improved the performance of SCFCs more apparently. With similar inner concrete section areas, circular steel tubes has better confinement than square ones. © APFIS 2019. All right reserved.

Selective laser melting of Ti-TiN composites: Formation mechanism and corrosion behaviour in H2SO4/HCl mixed solution

Electrochemical measurements and microstructural analysis were performed to study the formation mechanism and corrosion behavior in mixed solution of the Ti-TiN composites produced by selective laser melting (SLM) and commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) for comparison. The Ti-TiN composites comprise alpha'-Ti and delta-TiN, where the acicular alpha' martensite is refined compared to that in the CP-Ti. The passive film of all samples comprises TiO2, Ti2O3 and TiO. Compared to CP-Ti, the Ti-TiN composites demonstrate higher corrosion resistance, owing to the fine grains, the initial rapid passivation and the corrosion shadow protection effect of the alloyed reaction layer on the alpha'-Ti. Effect of temperature gradient on transient thermal creep of heated and stressed concrete in transient state tests

The stress-strain constitutive relation of concrete subjected to thermomechanical loads is extremely complicated since its deformation relies on the sequences in which the heat and loads are applied. Existing experiments demonstrated that the development of quasi-instantaneous transient thermal creep, generally referred to as TTC, was dependent on the virgin heating of a mechanically pre-loaded concrete specimen. However, the mechanism behind it is still not fully understood. In this paper, a numerical method is developed to analyze the stress fluctuation and corresponding plastic strain caused by the combination of pre-load and temperature gradient. The results show that the TTC calculated using existing semi-implicit methods is reasonable only at early stage but could be wrong at high temperatures. The sharp increase of TTC beyond around 500 degrees C observed in many tests could be attributed to the implicit inclusion of the extra plastic strain resulted from temperature gradient. By excluding the extra plastic strain generated at different temperature levels, a more accurate formula for calculating TTC is proposed. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In this paper, finite element simulation is carried out for BGA sample. The authors establishes the model of fixture, ceramic panel and metal sheet. Based on this model, several layers papers are laid on the metal sheet for simulation test. Then, ANASYS Workbench is used to conduct transient analysis of the samples to study the influence of different thickness papers on acceleration and time. The results provide useful reference for the adjustment of dynamic response parameters.

DAMAGE identification with fusion of estimates from covariance of IRF in different frequency bands

Structural health monitoring is becoming more important for infrastructure worldwide in the past few decades. An accurate analytical model of the monitored engineering structure is, however, usually not available. This report presents a new non-model based damage detection method from variation of the auto (cross)-covariance of impulse response function within selected frequency bandwidths of responses obtained from the intact and damaged structural states. The covariance is computed via the wavelet packet of the responses. Bayesian fusion is applied to all the damage probability vectors obtained from the covariance under different excitations and different measurement noise. A seven-storey steel frame structure with scenarios of both single and multiple damages and complete or incomplete measurements is numerically analyzed. A similar frame was later test in the laboratory with hammer excitation. The sensors nearest to the local damages exhibit the biggest damage probability. Both numerical and experimental results show that the proposed method is effective and promising for damage detection of practical engineering structures. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
