The multicomponent induction tool is mainly used for the measurements of resistivities in anisotropic formation. The difference equations to compute three dimensional log responses in anisotropic formation are derived using staggered-grid finite difference method and applied to investigate the laws of the multicomponent induction log responses in various borehole environments. The results show that the multicomponent induction log responses are relative to not only the horizontal and vertical resistivities but also the orientation of the instrument, the deviation angle of the borehole, and the relative angle between the borehole axis and the layer strike. A multicomponent induction tool provides the measurements to find the relationship between the parameters and the deviation angle of the borehole and the tool orientation, and both horizontal and vertical resistivities can be derived that allow accurate evaluation of oil saturation of the anisotropy reservoirs. The formulae are correct.
