Audio guides are commonly utilized to enrich the experience of art gallery visitors and to fully engage them with the artwork by providing background, contexts, and other information related to the corresponding artists. However, this method may be monotonous to the public and cannot automatically change to the appropriate recording when users move to the next artwork. The traditional operation of audio guides is only enabled by the user's visual recognition of the artwork to activate appropriate commentaries manually. In this paper, we explore the potential enhancement of the art gallery visitors' experience by applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and computer vision techniques to recognize the artwork's main features automatically and provide the corresponding artist and other information to the visitors. We train a model using a Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Kaggle's Painter by Numbers dataset, and host the trained model on a low-power AI accelerator equipped with a camera to recognize the artwork in real-time. The results are then transmitted to a database, which is utilized by a custom Android application on the smartphone to provide updated artworkrelated information on the display or by audio. Our system targets not only the general public for an interactive experience in the art gallery but also visually impaired people for proper guidance with the smartphone's camera and its voice feedback capabilities. © 2022 IEEE.

Data Association for Maneuvering Targets Through a Combined Siamese Network and Xgboost Model

Data association plays an important role in forming target tracks when false alarms exist. Its accuracy is key to reducing the computational burden of the combinatorial explosion problem inherent to target tracking in environments where false alarms are densely distributed. Traditional methods are usually developed according to some assumed motion models and suffer performance degradation when there is mismatch between assumed models and the actual motion, which may often be the case for maneuvering targets. To cope with this problem, we propose a data-driven method that learns the association criteria directly from data. By use of the domain knowledge and a convolutional Siamese network, features of different attributes present in the observations are extracted. Then the features are fused through the use of XGBoost. Simulation results show that the proposed method performs better than the traditional model-based methods in correlating observations of maneuvering targets and avoiding correlations of false alarms. By visualizing the decision process of the feature fusion model, it is found that the proposed method learns from the data to make comprehensive use of multiple features and does not simply set hard thresholds for the features. The challenges posed by nonlinearities in industrial systems necessitate innovative techniques that outperform the limitations of traditional methods such as principal component analysis (PCA). While Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA) offers a robust solution to handle nonlinear data, its computational requirements are a significant issue, especially for large-sized datasets. In this work, we propose a novel technique, namely, reduced kernel principal component analysis-based spectral clustering (RKPCA SpC ), to monitor and detect faults in the benchmark Tennessee Eastman process. The suggested approach addresses the complexity associated with KPCA by reducing data size during the model training phase. This reduction involves retaining only the principal components, preserving informative features, and selecting pertinent samples without compromising the original data's content. The efficacy of the proposed method is evaluated through key performance metrics, including false alarm rate (FAR), missed detection rate (MDR), detection time delay (DTD), and computation time (CT). Additionally, gained execution time (GET), gained storage space (GSP), and loss function (LF) are considered, providing a comprehensive assessment of the developed paradigms' effectiveness. The results demonstrate the promising capabilities of our proposed scheme.

The modern energy landscape is undergoing a seismic change from traditional, finite energy sources and toward cleaner, renewable alternatives. The restrictions faced by traditional sources, which are not only finite but increasingly shrink in the face of burgeoning global energy demands driven by population increase and industrial expansion, are driving this change. Although promising, renewable energy poses complications, particularly the reliance on climatic conditions. An important aspect of addressing these difficulties is effective energy management within distribution systems, which includes forecasting and optimization phases. This research focuses on forecasting using an advanced machine learning (ML) approach. Accurately forecasting renewable energy generation over time is critical for improving energy management. This technique is evaluated using a variety of performance indicators, including Mean Error (ME), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and the Coefficient of Determination (R 2 ). Empirical studies support the method's usefulness, demonstrating noteworthy performance with low error rates.

With expanding requests for effectiveness and product quality and advancing integration of au-tomatic control systems in high-cost and safety-critical processes, Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) in photo-voltaic (PV) have gained a very important role. However, PV systems can be subject to failures. These faults may include the distinctive system components such as PV modules, converters/inverters, connection lines, which can lead to a reduce in the operation performance. Thus, FDD is one of the key technologies to improve the efficiency of grid-connected PV performances. The most well-known data-driven based FDD methods are Deep Learning (DL)-basd approaches. The main advantages of DL algorithms, are that they can learn automatically high- level features from PV data in a high-order. This paper therefore presents the appli-cation of DL-based tools for fault diagnosis purposes and provides a comparative study using PV systems. These techniques include Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) and BIdirectional Long-Short Term Memory (BILSTM). The implemented FDD based frameworks are validated using an emulated Grid-Connected PV (GCPV) system. The results show that the DL-based diagnosis methods are able to detect and diagnose faults under different operating modes. © 2022 IEEE.

Target detection is a fundamental task of hyperspectral imaging where constrained energy minimization (CEM) has been widely used for subpixel target detection techniques. Due to its effectiveness, CEM has been generalized to various versions, such as kernel CEM (KCEM), kernel target-constrained interference-minimized filter (KTCIMF), ensemble cascaded CEM (ECEM), and hierarchical CEM (HCEM). Unfortunately, these generalizations overlooked the key design rationale behind CEM. This article revisits CEM for hyperspectral target detection (HTD) and proves how and why it works mathematically. Specifically, several new CEM generalizations are derived and particularly noteworthy. By including spatial information in an iterative process, KCEM, ECEM, and HCEM can be generalized to iterative KCEM (IKCEM), iterative KTCIMF (IKTCIMF), iterative ECEM (IECEM), and iterative HCEM (IHCEM). Also, by utilizing an iterative random training sampling (IRTS) to generate the desired target signature to be detected, these algorithms are further generalized to IRTS KCEM (IRTS-KCEM), IRTS ECEM (IRTS-ECEM), and IRTS HCEM (IRTS-HCEM). A comprehensive analysis along with comparative study on these generalizations is conducted through extensive experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of IKCEM, IHCEM, and IECEM. © 1980-2012 IEEE.

The x ad hoc network (xANET) termed as a family of ad hoc networks, including mobile ad hoc network (MANET), vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), flying ad hoc network (FANET) and satellite ad hoc network (SANET), has found a wide range of applications in providing ubiquitous wireless services. Despite its broad utility, the dynamic nature and lack of a centralized controller pose significant challenges to effective and flexible network management for xANET. Conventional network management protocols face challenges such as scalability, security vulnerabilities, configuration complexity, robustness, and performance resilience. Recent efforts have presented different approaches, focusing on policy-based network management (PBNM) and intent-driven network management (IDNM). However, there is no comprehensive survey to clarify their concepts and classifications. This paper presents a survey of the network management evolution for xANET, covering configuration-based, policy-based and the latest intent-driven approaches. We first introduce the characteristics and applications of xANET. Meanwhile, we investigate the network management concepts and challenges. Moreover, we survey the evolution of management protocols for xANET, including simple network management protocol (SNMP), PBNM, and IDNM. Then, we follow the detailed network management of xANET from configuration-based to policy-based and intent-driven approaches. Through comparative analysis, it is found that IDNM employs a more intelligent management protocol, demonstrating higher efficiency and flexibility in handling complex tasks and dynamic network management. This makes it better suited to addressing the challenges of xANET management. Finally, we summarize the remaining challenges and possible future research directions. © 2025 IEEE.

Camouflaged objects, exhibiting high similarity with their surroundings, pose a substantial challenge for both humans and machines to detect when concealed within the environment. Existing methods for camouflage object detection (COD) struggle in accurately segmenting the overall structure of camouflaged objects. To address this issue, we propose a novel boundary-guided fusion of multi-level features network (BGFM-Net) for COD. In contrast to existing boundary-guided methods, we pay more attention to addressing the significant imbalance in the pixel quantities between boundary and background features, allowing for a more comprehensive representation of boundary features. BGFM-Net primarily consists of a multi-scale aggregation module (MSAM), a boundary-guided feature module (BFM), and a cross-Level fusion module (CLFM). MSAM effectively integrates contextual semantics at different scales, achieving a powerful and efficient feature representation. BFM adeptly combines edge features while constraining interference from background features, guiding the learning of camouflaged object boundary representation. CLFM integrates multi-level features for predicting camouflaged objects while adaptively adjusting channel weights to emphasize important channels and diminish the impact of less relevant channels for the task. Extensive experiments on three benchmark camouflage datasets demonstrate that our BGFM-Net outperforms other state-of-the-art COD models.

In future wireless networks, the availability of information on the position of mobile agents and the propagation environment can enable new services and increase the throughput and robustness of communications. multipath-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) aims at estimating the position of agents and reflecting features in the environment by exploiting the relationship between the local geometry and multipath components (MPCs) in received radio signals. Existing multipath-based SLAM methods preprocess received radio signals using a channel estimator. The channel estimator lowers the data rate by extracting a set of dispersion parameters for each MPC. These parameters are then used as measurements for SLAM. Bayesian estimation for multipath-based SLAM is facilitated by the lower data rate. However, due to finite resolution capabilities limited by signal bandwidth, channel estimation is prone to errors and MPC parameters may be extracted incorrectly and lead to a reduced SLAM performance. We propose a multipath-based SLAM approach that directly uses received radio signals as inputs. A new statistical model that can effectively be represented by a factor graph is introduced. The factor graph is the starting point for the development of an efficient belief propagation (BP) method for multipath-based SLAM that avoids data preprocessing by a channel estimator. Numerical results based on synthetic and real data in challenging single-input, single-output (SISO) scenarios demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms conventional methods in terms of localization and mapping accuracy. Exploiting the shared information among tasks to significantly improve the sparse reconstruction performance lays the essence of multi-task compressive sensing. In this paper, a novel generative model of multi-task compressive sensing with Dirichlet process (DP) priors is proposed and the sharing mechanisms among tasks are revealed, yielding a principled means of inferring the clusters as well as performing compressive sensing inversion simultaneously. The spike-and-slab priors are first used to model the group sparsity among tasks within the identical cluster, and the DP priors are then introduced to automatically perform clustering for the tasks. The expectation propagation method is finally carried out to take the inference for posterior distribution approximation. The superiority of the proposed method over state-of-the-art algorithms is demonstrated by using experimental results on both numerical data and real data sets. © 2022 IEEE.
