Contrarily to classical information retrieval systems, the systems that treat structured documents include the structural dimension through the document and query comparison. Thus, the retrieval of relevant results means the retrieval of document fragments that match the user need rather than the whole document. So, the structure notion should be taken into account during the retrieval process as well as during the reformulation. In this paper we propose an approach of query reformulation based on structural relevance feedback. We start from the original query on one hand and the fragments judged as relevant by the user on the other. Structure hints analysis allows us to identify nodes that match the user query and to rebuild it during the relevance feedback step. The main goal of this paper is to show the impact of structural hints in XML query optimization. Some experiments have been undertaken into a dataset provided by INEX to show the effectiveness of our proposals. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In a Relevance Feedback process, the query can be reformulated basing on a matrix product of the RSV (Retrieval Status Value) vector and the documents-terms matrix. In such case, the challenge is to determine the most appropriate query that fulfils the retrieval process. In this paper, we present an automatic query reformulation approach based on a dual form of this product matrix which systematically generate as solution the reformulated query. This approach was spread to assure a learning strategy in order to rank the results of an information retrieval system. Some experiments have been undertaken into a dataset provided by TREC and the results show the effectiveness of our approach. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

In this paper, we propose a new approach to identify programs in TV streams. In the first step of our approach, we construct a reference catalogue for video grammars of visual jingles. In the second step, we identify programs in TV streams by examining the similarity of the video signal to the visual grammars in the catalogue. After presenting our approach, we report the results of its experimental evaluation on several streams extracted from different channels and composed of several programs. Copyright 2009 ACM.

The principal objective of this work consists in reducing the chattering phenomenon and ensuring more improvement of performances the proposed control scheme especially ensuring the decoupling between the control of the two principle variables of the motor “speed and flux” and also the system's robustness towards parameter's variations and external perturbations. In fact and as a first step a control scheme based on the combination of feedback linearization control is first proposed. Then, and in order to ensure more robustness of the process towards parameter's variations and external perturbation...ect, sliding mode controllers are used. These controllers are based on a piecewise function for smoothing in order to reduce the effect of the chattering phenomenon which is harmful of the actuator. However, this smooth function is relied closely to the upper bound of uncertainties, which include parameter variations and external disturbances. So, fuzzy sliding mode controllers are investigated to solve this difficulty based on the method introduced by Ben-Galia et al. By replacing the gain and the signum of the attractivity function of sliding mode controllers by fuzzy maps. However, it seems that this technique couldn't reduced the chattering considerably which let the authors to propose another type of controllers based on Gaussian Radial Basis Function Neural Network (GRBFNN) which revealed some very interesting features and prove that such controllers are efficients to attempt the required objectives.

For research on conceptual design of the complex product, it is necessary that a reliable theory is found to decide if the design structure is suit for custom requirement. The correlation matrixes among requirements, functions and structures are proposed. A block diagonal matrix of correlation matrix between functions and structures is given. The mathematical models of multi-object optimization structure design are provided, and then calculated by the hybrid genetic algorithm. An example for solar energy automobile is given to show that this method is able to realize optimization structure design fitting for the requirements. In addition, the approaches can provide good Pareto optimization solutions.

In this paper, we present a lane detection algorithm based on hough transform and linear parabolic fitting. The candidate pixels are collected after image contrast enhancement while using morphological filters. The algorithm was tested on image sequences we filmed on the roads of Tunisia and on images from the PETS2001 dataset provided by Essex University (England). These images present different environment conditions such as shadow, partial coverage of the markings by obstacles, different lane markings that can be blurred or well contrasted, and different weather conditions.

The world of ants is a reach source of inspiration since real ants are able to solve collectively relatively complex problems. Particularly, several ant based clustering algorithms have been proposed in the literature. These clustering models were derived from several phenomena among real ants such as cemetery organization, recognition system, building alive structures, etc. In this work, we try to adapt the properties of sound communication among real ants to resolve the clustering problem. Artificial ants move randomly on a 2D toroidal grid where objects are initially scattered at random. They communicate with each others in order to recruit ants having similar heaps of objects. We have applied this algorithm on many databases and we get very good results compared to the K-means algorithm. An application to image clustering is also realized.

With the emergence of multiple cloud providers of Infrastructure-as-a- Service, it becomes possible to envision a near-future when high-performance computing users could combine services from different clouds to access huge numbers of resources. However, as more administrative privileges are exposed to end users, providers are required to deploy network security measures that present challenges to the network virtualization technologies that are needed to enable inter-cloud communication. This paper studies these challenges and proposes techniques to enable unmodified applications on resources across distinct clouds. The techniques are implemented in TinyViNe, an extension to ViNe, a virtual networking technology for distributed resources in different administrative domains. The results of evaluating TinyViNe on a WAN-based testbed across three sites are reported for a bioinformatics application (BLAST) and MPI benchmarks. The results confirm that TinyViNe enables cross-cloud computing while having little impact on application performance. TinyViNe also has auto-configuration and "download-and-run" capabilities for easy deployment by users who are not knowledgeable about networking. © 2009 IEEE.

This paper extends FSM, a recently proposed semantic data model that supports fuzziness, imprecision and uncertainty of real-world. More precisely, the paper proposes four new concepts, decisional grouping, inhibition, multiplicity and selection, which allows enhancing the modeling of real-world applications. It integrates these concepts in FSM by the definition of new decision rules.

In this article, we present a contribution to the violent Web images classification. This subject is deeply important as it has a potential use for many applications such as violent Web sites filtering. We propose to combine the techniques of image analysis and data-mining to relate low level characteristics extracted from the image's colors to a higher characteristic of violence which could be contained in the image. We present a comparative study of different data mining techniques to classify violent Web images. Also, we discuss how the combination learning based methods can improve accuracy rate. Our results show that our approach can detect violent content effectively.
