Micro-Doppler signatures (mu -DSs) are widely used for human activity recognition (HAR) using radar. However, traditional methods for generating mu -DS, such as the short-time Fourier transform (STFT), suffer from limitations, such as the tradeoff between time and frequency resolution, noise sensitivity, and parameter calibration. To address these limitations, we propose a novel deep learning (DL)-based approach to reconstruct high-resolution mu -DS directly from a 1-D complex time-domain signal. Our DL architecture consists of an autoencoder (AE) block to improve signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), an STFT block to learn frequency transformations to generate pseudo spectrograms, and, finally, a U-Net block to reconstruct high-resolution spectrogram images. We evaluated our proposed architecture on both synthetic and real-world data. For synthetic data, we generated 1-D complex time-domain signals with multiple time-varying frequencies and evaluated and compared the ability of our network to generate high-resolution mu -DS and perform in different SNR levels. For real-world data, a challenging radar-based American Sign Language (ASL) dataset consisting of 100 words was used to evaluate the classification performance achieved using the mu -DS generated by the proposed approach. The results showed that the proposed approach outperforms the classification accuracy of traditional STFT-based mu -DS by 3.48%. Both synthetic and experimental mu -DSs show that the proposed approach learns to reconstruct higher resolution and sparser spectrograms. © 2023 IEEE.

Improved MPPT algorithm: Artificial neural network trained by an enhanced Gauss-Newton method

A novel approach defined by the artificial neural network (ANN) model trained by the improved Gauss-Newton in conjunction with a simulated annealing technique is used to control a step-up converter. To elucidate the superiority of this innovative method and to show its high precision and speed in achieving the right value of the Maximum Power Point (MPP), a set of three comparative Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) methods (Perturbation and observation, ANN and ANN associated with perturbation and observation) are exanimated judiciously. The behavior of these methods is observed and tested for a fixed temperature and irradiance. As a result, the proposed approach quickly tracks the right MPP = 18.59 W in just 0.04382 s. On the other hand, the outstanding ability of the suggested method is demonstrated by varying the irradiance values (200 W/m , 300 W/m , 700 W/m , 1000 W/m , 800 W/m and 400 W/m ) and by varying the temperature values (15°C, 35°C, 45°C and 5°C). Therefore, the ANN trained by Gauss-Newton in conjunction with simulated annealing shows a high robustness and achieves the correct value of MPP for each value of irradiance with an efficiency 99.54% and for each value of temperature with an efficiency 99.98%;the three other methods sometimes struggle to achieve the right MPP for certain irradiance values and often remains stuck in its surroundings. © 2023 The Author(s).

Security risks were raised during the handover of Mobile Nodes (MNs) in the Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (MIPv6), which were demonstrated in the instigation of route optimization between the MN and its Correspondent Node (CN). The return routability procedure provides a basic security measure for the communication between the MN and CN, but this security scheme still suffers from various weaknesses and loopholes. Thus, various methodologies in securing the handovers for MIPv6 were incorporated in line with the security agreement with authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) infrastructure. This paper proposes an establishment of the Integration Security Authentication System based on the AAA infrastructure to maintain the security level of the fast handover mobility management to provide an improved Quality of Service. The Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) measurements are essential for forest management and carbon absorption estimation in environmental challenges. Traditional DBH measurements require more precision and efficiency, especially in inaccessible forests. Existing methods, including manual measurement or remote sensing, struggle with precision in low-intensity point cloud areas. Our technique solves these limitations by analyzing the entire tree stem by the process, including convex hull construction and advanced noise reduction using real-world datasets. It has reduced the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) to 0.020, or 92.25% improvement, and the bias has decreased to -0.008. These enhancements highlight the accuracy and reliability of our DBH estimation technique. © 2024 IEEE.

This work presents an adaptive tracking guidance method for robotic fishes. The scheme enables robots to suppress external interference and eliminate motion jitter. An adaptive integral surge line-of-sight guidance rule is designed to eliminate dynamics interference and sideslip issues. Limited-time yaw and surge speed observers are reported to fit disturbance variables in the model. The approximation values can compensate for the system's control input and improve the robots' tracking ***, this work develops a terminal sliding mode controller and third-order differential processor to determine the rotational torque and reduce the robots' run jitter. Then, Lyapunov's theory proves the uniform ultimate boundedness of the proposed method. Simulation and physical experiments confirm that the technology improves the tracking error convergence speed and stability of robotic fishes.

In recent years, it has been found that screen content images (SCI) can be effectively compressed based on appropriate probability modelling and suitable entropy coding methods such as arithmetic coding. The key objective is determining the best probability distribution for each pixel position. This strategy works particularly well for images with synthetic (textual) content. However, usually screen content images not only consist of synthetic but also pictorial (natural) regions. These images require diverse models of probability distributions to be optimally compressed. One way to achieve this goal is to separate synthetic and natural regions. This paper proposes a segmentation method that identifies natural regions enabling better adaptive treatment. It supplements a compression method known as Soft Context Formation (SCF) and operates as a pre-processing step. If at least one natural segment is found within the SCI, it is split into two subimages (natural and synthetic parts) and the process of modelling and coding is performed separately for both. For SCIs with natural regions, the proposed method achieves a bit-rate reduction of up to 11.6% and 1.52% with respect to HEVC and the previous version of the SCF. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper considers the problem of approximating the infinite-horizon value function of the discrete-time switched LQR *** particular,the authors propose a new value iteration method to generate a sequence of monotonically decreasing functions that converges exponentially to the value *** method facilitates us to use coarse approximations resulting from faster but less accurate algorithms for further value iteration,and thus,the proposed approach is capable of achieving a better approximation for a given computation time compared with the existing *** numerical examples are presented in this paper to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In recent years, convolutional neural networks have significantly advanced image segmentation, particularly for brain images, where important edge features are automatically found. However, accurate segmentation of tumors in a brain remains a challenge across different magnetic resonance modalities, like T1, T2, T1ce, and FLAIR. Using a simple gradient map as an input to the neural networks is not effective due to variations in cross-modality image characteristics. To address this issue, we introduced multi-scale gradient maps that incorporate Holistically Nested Edge Detection (HED) and dilated convolutions into the UNet model. The HED model captures detailed gradient information, enhancing structural feature identification across modalities, while dilated convolutions expand the UNet receptive field for better contextual understanding without increasing parameters. Our method was trained and evaluated on the BraTS2018 dataset. The experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in segmentation accuracy and robustness. Specifically, our method achieved a Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) of 0.6902 for T2 to T1ce, 0.6858 for T2 to T1, 0.4329 for FLAIR to T1, and 0.6004 for FLAIR to T1ce, outperforming previous state-of-The-Art methods. This demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach in enhancing segmentation performance across different MR image modalities. © 2024 IEEE.
