Robotic manipulation requires accurate perception of the environment, which poses a significant challenge due to its inherent complexity and constantly changing nature. In this context, RGB image and point-cloud observations are two commonly used modalities in visual-based robotic manipulation, but each of these modalities have their own limitations. Commercial point-cloud observations often suffer from issues like sparse sampling and noisy output due to the limits of the emission-reception imaging principle. On the other hand, RGB images, while rich in texture information, lack essential depth and 3D information crucial for robotic manipulation. To mitigate these challenges, we propose an image-only robotic manipulation framework that leverages an eye-on-hand monocular camera installed on the robot's parallel gripper. By moving with the robot gripper, this camera gains the ability to actively perceive the object from multiple perspectives during the manipulation process. This enables the estimation of 6D object poses, which can be utilized for manipulation. While, obtaining images from more and diverse viewpoints typically improves pose estimation, it also increases the manipulation time. To address this trade-off, we employ a reinforcement learning policy to synchronize the manipulation strategy with active perception, achieving a balance between 6D pose accuracy and manipulation efficiency. Our experimental results in both simulated and real-world environments showcase the state-of-the-art effectiveness of our approach. The modern energy landscape is undergoing a seismic change from traditional, finite energy sources and toward cleaner, renewable alternatives. The restrictions faced by traditional sources, which are not only finite but increasingly shrink in the face of burgeoning global energy demands driven by population increase and industrial expansion, are driving this change. Although promising, renewable energy poses complications, particularly the reliance on climatic conditions. An important aspect of addressing these difficulties is effective energy management within distribution systems, which includes forecasting and optimization phases. This research focuses on forecasting using an advanced machine learning (ML) approach. Accurately forecasting renewable energy generation over time is critical for improving energy management. This technique is evaluated using a variety of performance indicators, including Mean Error (ME), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and the Coefficient of Determination (R 2 ). Empirical studies support the method's usefulness, demonstrating noteworthy performance with low error rates.

This paper studies an indoor navigation guidance system for visually impaired people using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision techniques to guide users via optimal path based on quick response (QR) code markers and collision avoidance system supported by the monocular depth estimation algorithm. The proposed system utilizes a set of QR code markers, as location beacons, to generate an optimal path for the user to reach the destination. The identified QR code markers are used to correlate and compare information from the online database containing valuable information such as current location information, and the next possible locations from the current location. In addition, our system embraces a safety feature, a collision avoidance system, by utilizing the monocular depth estimation algorithm to identify obstacles in the path to the desired destination. All obtained information is provided to the user through a text-to-speech engine, where the system can direct the user to the optimal path via audio output. © 2022 IEEE.

Audio guides are commonly utilized to enrich the experience of art gallery visitors and to fully engage them with the artwork by providing background, contexts, and other information related to the corresponding artists. However, this method may be monotonous to the public and cannot automatically change to the appropriate recording when users move to the next artwork. The traditional operation of audio guides is only enabled by the user's visual recognition of the artwork to activate appropriate commentaries manually. In this paper, we explore the potential enhancement of the art gallery visitors' experience by applying Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and computer vision techniques to recognize the artwork's main features automatically and provide the corresponding artist and other information to the visitors. We train a model using a Deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Kaggle's Painter by Numbers dataset, and host the trained model on a low-power AI accelerator equipped with a camera to recognize the artwork in real-time. The results are then transmitted to a database, which is utilized by a custom Android application on the smartphone to provide updated artworkrelated information on the display or by audio. Our system targets not only the general public for an interactive experience in the art gallery but also visually impaired people for proper guidance with the smartphone's camera and its voice feedback capabilities. © 2022 IEEE.

Test-time adaptation aims to adapt a well-trained model to potential distribution shifts at test time using only unlabeled test data, without access to the original training data. While previous efforts mainly focus on a single modality, test-time distribution shift in the multi-modal setting is more complex and calls for new solutions. This paper tackles the problem of multi-modal test-time adaptation by proposing a novel method named Attention Bootstrapping with Principal Entropy Minimization (ABPEM). We observe that test-time distribution shift causes misalignment across modalities, leading to a large gap between intra-modality discrepancies (measured by self-attention) and inter-modality discrepancies (measured by cross-attention). We name this the attention gap. This attention gap widens with more severe distribution shifts, hindering effective modality fusion. To mitigate this attention gap and encourage better modality fusion, we propose attention bootstrapping that promotes cross-attention with the guidance of self-attention. Moreover, to reduce the gradient noise in the commonly-used entropy minimization, we adopt principal entropy minimization, a refinement of entropy minimization that reduces gradient noise by focusing on the principal parts of entropy, excluding less reliable gradient information. Extensive experiments on the benchmarks validate the effectiveness of the proposed ABPEM in comparison with competing baselines. DAMPER: A Dual-Stage Medical Report Generation Framework with Coarse-Grained MeSH Alignment and Fine-Grained Hypergraph Matching

Medical report generation is crucial for clinical diagnosis and patient management, summarizing diagnoses and recommendations based on medical imaging. However, existing work often overlook the clinical pipeline involved in report writing, where physicians typically conduct an initial quick review followed by a detailed examination. Moreover, current alignment methods may lead to misaligned relationships. To address these issues, we propose DAMPER, a dual-stage framework for medical report generation that mimics the clinical pipeline of report writing in two stages. In the first stage, a MeSH-Guided Coarse-Grained Alignment (MCG) stage that aligns chest X-ray (CXR) image features with medical subject headings (MeSH) features to generate a rough keyphrase representation of the overall impression. In the second stage, a Hypergraph-Enhanced Fine-Grained Alignment (HFG) stage that constructs hypergraphs for image patches and report annotations, modeling high-order relationships within each modality and performing hypergraph matching to capture semantic correlations between image regions and textual phrases. Finally,the coarse-grained visual features, generated MeSH representations, and visual hypergraph features are fed into a report decoder to produce the final medical report. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of DAMPER in generating comprehensive and accurate medical reports, outperforming state-of-the-art methods across various evaluation metrics. Target detection is a fundamental task of hyperspectral imaging where constrained energy minimization (CEM) has been widely used for subpixel target detection techniques. Due to its effectiveness, CEM has been generalized to various versions, such as kernel CEM (KCEM), kernel target-constrained interference-minimized filter (KTCIMF), ensemble cascaded CEM (ECEM), and hierarchical CEM (HCEM). Unfortunately, these generalizations overlooked the key design rationale behind CEM. This article revisits CEM for hyperspectral target detection (HTD) and proves how and why it works mathematically. Specifically, several new CEM generalizations are derived and particularly noteworthy. By including spatial information in an iterative process, KCEM, ECEM, and HCEM can be generalized to iterative KCEM (IKCEM), iterative KTCIMF (IKTCIMF), iterative ECEM (IECEM), and iterative HCEM (IHCEM). Also, by utilizing an iterative random training sampling (IRTS) to generate the desired target signature to be detected, these algorithms are further generalized to IRTS KCEM (IRTS-KCEM), IRTS ECEM (IRTS-ECEM), and IRTS HCEM (IRTS-HCEM). A comprehensive analysis along with comparative study on these generalizations is conducted through extensive experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of IKCEM, IHCEM, and IECEM. © 1980-2012 IEEE.
