As a critical strategic tool within the framework of the digital economy (DE), artificial intelligence (AI) plays a crucial role in realizing an AI-assisted economy. This novel paradigm has gained widespread acceptance from governments globally, positioning itself as a cornerstone in the practical implementation of the DE. The increasing reliance on digital means for economic transformation, the treatment of data as a critical resource, and the integration of information technologies highlight the synergy between AI and the DE. Against this backdrop, online reviews and SA play a pivotal role, offering rich data streams continually emerging on various platforms. Therefore, this article utilizes a probabilistic linguistic term set (PLTS) to establish a multi-granularity probabilistic linguistic (MG-PL) information system. This approach, through sentiment analysis (SA), enables quantitative analysis of user emotional expressions. The integration of these technological aspects holds the promise of enhancing decision-making processes, facilitating the intellectualization of economic activities, and addressing existing challenges in the application of AI within the DE domain. Initially, SA is conducted on text-based online comment data, forming a probabilistic linguistic incomplete information system. The maximum similarity method is employed to establish a probabilistic linguistic complete information system. Subsequently, an adjustable MG-PL decision-theoretic rough set (DTRS) is developed, followed by the establishment of a three-way group decision model using three-way decisions (3WD) and a directed graph. The model's applicability, stability, and feasibility are demonstrated via a case study centered on the acquisition of new energy vehicles (NEVs). © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

The terahertz (THz) band (0.1-10 THz) is widely considered to be a candidate band for the sixth-generation mobile communication technology (6G). However, due to its short wavelength (less than 1 mm), scattering becomes a particularly significant propagation mechanism. In previous studies, we proposed a scattering model to characterize the scattering in THz bands, which can only reconstruct the scattering in the incidence plane. In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) stochastic model is proposed to characterize the THz scattering on rough surfaces. Then, we reconstruct the scattering on rough surfaces with different shapes and under different incidence angles utilizing the proposed model. Good agreements can be achieved between the proposed model and full-wave simulation results. This stochastic 3D scattering model can be integrated into the standard channel modeling framework to realize more realistic THz channel data for the evaluation of 6G. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. In this big data era, distributed machine learning and global data pooling have become quite critical in practical implementation of any multimedia data-science technique. The emerging federated multimedia recommendation systems (FeMRSs) offer a promising approach to address the need of personalized recommendations subject to both users’ privacy and data security. However, there exists no quantitative method for assessing the discrepancy between the large original rating matrix stored on the server and the dimensionality-reduced rating matrix produced on each client’s equipment. Meanwhile, there lacks a systematic means to evaluate the differential privacy (DP), which is a critical security measure in many distributed systems, particularly when sensitive data are processed. In this work, we first introduce a novel personalized dimensionalityreduction algorithm utilizing the matrix sketching technique. This new algorithm effectively control the difference between the original rating matrix on the server and the dimensionality-reduced rating matrix on each client’s equipment. Moreover, a randomized DP matrix factorization algorithm is designed to be executed at each client’s equipment. The theoretical proof is also carried out to show how much DP can be attained by use of the aforementioned randomized DP matrix factorization algorithm. Finally, extensive numerical studies are presented to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed novel algorithms using both simulated and real datasets for building the FeMRSs.

Abstraction-Based Verification of Approximate Pre-Opacity for Control Systems

In this paper, we consider the problem of verifying pre-opacity for discrete-time control systems. Preopacity is an important information-flow security property that secures the intention of a system to execute some secret behaviors in the future. Existing works on pre-opacity only consider non-metric discrete systems, where it is assumed that intruders can distinguish different output behaviors precisely. However, for continuous-space control systems whose output sets are equipped with metrics (which is the case for most real-world applications), it is too restrictive to assume precise measurements from outside observers. In this paper, we first introduce a concept of approximate pre-opacity by capturing the security level of control systems with respect to the measurement precision of the intruder. Based on this new notion of pre-opacity, we propose a verification approach for continuous-space control systems by leveraging abstraction-based techniques. In particular, a new concept of approximate pre-opacity preserving simulation relation is introduced to characterize the distance between two systems in terms of preserving pre-opacity. This new system relation allows us to verify pre-opacity of complex continuous-space control systems using their finite abstractions. We also present a method to construct pre-opacity preserving finite abstractions for a class of discrete-time control systems under certain stability assumptions. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of vision loss globally. Yet despite its prevalence, the majority of affected people lack access to the specialized ophthalmologists and equipment required for assessing their condition. This can lead to delays in the start of treatment, thereby lowering their chances for a successful outcome. Machine learning systems that automatically detect the disease in eye fundus images have been proposed as a means of facilitating access to DR severity estimates for patients in remote regions or even for complementing the human expert’s diagnosis. In this paper, we propose a machine learning system for the detection of referable DR in fundus images that is based on the paradigm of multiple-instance learning. By extracting local information from image patches and combining it efficiently through an attention mechanism, our system is able to achieve high classification accuracy. Moreover, it can highlight potential image regions where DR manifests through its characteristic lesions. We evaluate our approach on publicly available retinal image datasets, in which it exhibits near state-of-the-art performance, while also producing interpretable visualizations of its predictions. © 2021, CC BY.

White matter hyperintensities (WMHs) are lesion in brain magnetic resonance images generally associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and cognitive decline. Finding WMHs of AD poses a great challenge for diagnosis. This paper interprets a brain MR image as a hyperspectral image so that a well stablished hyperspectral subpixel detection algorithm, constrained energy minimization (CEM), is applicable to solving the WMHs detection problem at mixed pixel and subpixel level. To resolve nonlinear mixing in detecting WMHs nearby boundaries, a nonlinear CEM, called kernel CEM (KCEM) is also developed. Since CEM is a hyperspectral technique without taking spatial correlation into account, CEM was also extended to iterative CEM (ICEM) by including spatial filters to capture spatial information for WMHs detection. This paper combines ICEM and KCEM to derive a new WHMs detection algorithm, iterative KCEM (IKCEM) to improve ICEM and KCEM on WMHs detection. To evaluate the WMHs detection performance, two criteria, Dice similarity index (DSI) and 3D ROC analysis are used as evaluation tools. In order to show the superiority of IKCEM, two commonly used software packages, statistical parametric mapping (SPM)-based algorithms, SPM-lesion growth algorithm (SPM-LGA) and SPM-lesion prediction algorithm (SPM-LPA) are implemented for validation and comparison.

There are balanced priorities in various engineering fields (e.g. medicine, statistics, artificial intelligence, and economics, etc.). Some clustering algorithms cannot maintain the natural balanced structure of data. This paper proposes a soft-balanced clustering framework, which can achieve a balanced clustering for each cluster. The model can be formulated d as a mixed-integer optimization problem. We transform the problem into several subproblems and utilize PSO to search the global solution. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm can achieve satisfactory clustering results than other clustering algorithms. © 2021 IEEE.

Active feedback control in magnetic confinement fusion devices is desirable to mitigate plasma instabilities and enable robust operation. Optical high-speed cameras provide a powerful, non-invasive diagnostic and can be suitable for these applications. In this study, we process high-speed camera data, at rates exceeding 100 kfps, on in situ field-programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware to track magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mode evolution and generate control signals in real-time. Our system utilizes a convolutional neural network (CNN) model which predicts the n=1 MHD mode amplitude and phase using camera images with better accuracy than other tested non-deep-learning-based methods. By implementing this model directly within the standard FPGA readout hardware of the high-speed camera diagnostic, our mode tracking system achieves a total trigger-to-output latency of 17.6 µs and a throughput of up to 120 kfps. This study at the High Beta Tokamak-Extended Pulse (HBT-EP) experiment demonstrates an FPGA-based high-speed camera data acquisition and processing system, enabling application in real-time machine-learning-based tokamak diagnostic and control as well as potential applications in other scientific domains.
