In this paper, we present the Rollick Games platform and its Pervasive Game Modeling Language that enables the description of location-based pervasive games using a GUI provided by the Game Studio web app. The runtime environment (Pervasive Game Execution Environment) is responsible for generating the Pervasive Game Execution Language from a game model and loading it to an instance of the game's Execution Engine. The Execution Environment includes a set of agents responsible for monitoring the players’ context and interaction with other game elements and among each other. The Engine follows an event-driven paradigm and uses an event loop waiting for events to be dispatched from the agents to carry out its computations based on its current state, context, and event data. The proposed approach allows for both sharing and reusing game models, significantly reducing time to market and development costs. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This work presents an adaptive tracking guidance method for robotic fishes. The scheme enables robots to suppress external interference and eliminate motion jitter. An adaptive integral surge line-of-sight guidance rule is designed to eliminate dynamics interference and sideslip issues. Limited-time yaw and surge speed observers are reported to fit disturbance variables in the model. The approximation values can compensate for the system's control input and improve the robots' tracking ***, this work develops a terminal sliding mode controller and third-order differential processor to determine the rotational torque and reduce the robots' run jitter. Then, Lyapunov's theory proves the uniform ultimate boundedness of the proposed method. Simulation and physical experiments confirm that the technology improves the tracking error convergence speed and stability of robotic fishes.

Distributed and networked analysis of volumetric image data for remote collaboration of microscopy image analysis

Purpose: The advancement of high-content optical microscopy has enabled the acquisition of very large three-dimensional (3D) image datasets. The analysis of these image volumes requires more computational resources than a biologist may have access to in typical desktop or laptop computers. This is especially true if machine learning tools are being used for image analysis. With the increased amount of data analysis and computational complexity, there is a need for a more accessible, easy-to-use, and efficient network-based 3D image processing system. The distributed and networked analysis of volumetric image data (DINAVID) system was developed to enable remote analysis of 3D microscopy images for biologists. Approach: We present an overview of the DINAVID system and compare it to other tools currently available for microscopy image analysis. DINAVID is designed using open-source tools and has two main sub-systems, a computational system for 3D microscopy image processing and analysis and a 3D visualization system. Results: DINAVID is a network-based system with a simple web interface that allows biologists to upload 3D volumes for analysis and visualization. DINAVID enables the image access model of a center hosting image volumes and remote users analyzing those volumes, without the need for remote users to manage any computational resources. Conclusions: The DINAVID system, designed and developed using open-source tools, enables biologists to analyze and visualize 3D microscopy volumes remotely without the need to manage computational resources. DINAVID also provides several image analysis tools, including pre-processing and several segmentation models. © 2025 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).

Morphemes serve as a strong linguistic feature to capture lexical semantics, with higher coverage than words and more natural than sememes. However, due to the lack of morpheme-informed resources and the expense of manual annotation, morpheme-enhanced methods remain largely unexplored in Computational Linguistics. To address this issue, we propose the task of Morpheme Sense Disambiguation (MSD), with two subtasks in-text and in-word, similar to Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD) and Sememe Prediction (SP), to generalize morpheme features on more tasks. We first build the MorDis resource for Chinese, including MorInv as a morpheme inventory, MorTxt and MorWrd as two types of morpheme-annotated datasets. Next, we provide two baselines in each evaluation;the best model yields a promising precision of 77.66% on in-text MSD and 88.19% on in-word MSD, indicating its comparability with WSD and superiority over SP. Finally, we demonstrate that predicted morphemes achieve comparable performance with the ground-truth ones on a downstream application of Definition Generation (DG). This validates the feasibility and applicability of our proposed tasks. The resources and workflow of MSD will provide new insights and solutions for downstream tasks, including DG as well as WSD, training pre-trained models, etc. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

The ability to synthesize convincing human speech has become easier due to the availability of speech generation tools. This necessitates the development of forensics methods that can authenticate and attribute speech signals. In this paper, we examine a speech attribution task, which identifies the origin of a speech signal. Our proposed method known as Synthetic Speech Attribution Transformer (SSAT) converts speech signals into mel spectrograms and uses a self-supervised pretrained transformer for attribution. This transformer is pretrained on two large publicly available audio datasets: Audio Set and LibriSpeech. We finetune the pretrained transformer on three speech attribution datasets: the DARPA SemaFor Audio Attribution dataset, the ASVspoof2019 dataset, and the 2022 IEEE SP Cup dataset. SSAT achieves high closed-set accuracy on all datasets (99.8% on ASVspoof2019 dataset, 96.3% on SP Cup dataset, and 93.4% on DARPA SemaFor Audio Attribution dataset). We also investigate the method's ability to generalize to unknown speech generation methods (open-set scenario). SSAT has high performance, achieving an open-set accuracy of 90.2% on the ASVspoof2019 dataset and 88.45% on DARPA SemaFor Audio Attribution dataset. Finally, we show that our approach is robust to typical compression rates used by YouTube for speech signals. © 2023, Society for Imaging Science and Technology.

Shape from polarization (SfP) benefits from advancements like polarization cameras for single-shot normal estimation, but its performance heavily relies on light conditions. This paper proposes SfPUEL, an end-to-end SfP method to jointly estimate surface normal and material under unknown environment light. To handle this challenging light condition, we design a transformer-based framework for enhancing the perception of global context features. We further propose to integrate photometric stereo (PS) priors from pretrained models to enrich extracted features for high-quality normal predictions. As metallic and dielectric materials exhibit different BRDFs, SfPUEL additionally predicts dielectric and metallic material segmentation to further boost performance. Experimental results on synthetic and our collected real-world dataset demonstrate that SfPUEL significantly outperforms existing SfP and single-shot normal estimation methods. Event-intensity asymmetric stereo systems have emerged as a promising approach for robust 3D perception in dynamic and challenging environments by integrating event cameras with frame-based sensors in different views. However, existing methods often suffer from overfitting and poor generalization due to limited dataset sizes and lack of scene diversity in the event domain. To address these issues, we propose a zero-shot framework that utilizes monocular depth estimation and stereo matching models pretrained on diverse image datasets. Our approach introduces a visual prompting technique to align the representations of frames and events, allowing the use of off-the-shelf stereo models without additional training. Furthermore, we introduce a monocular cue-guided disparity refinement module to improve robustness across static and dynamic regions by incorporating monocular depth information from foundation models. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate the superior zero-shot evaluation performance and enhanced generalization ability of our method compared to existing approaches. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Humans exhibit a remarkable ability to learn quickly from a limited number of labeled samples, a capability that starkly contrasts with that of current machine learning systems. Unsupervised Few-Shot Learning (U-FSL) seeks to bridge this divide by reducing reliance on annotated datasets during initial training phases. In this work, we first quantitatively assess the impacts of Masked Image Modeling (MIM) and Contrastive Learning (CL) on few-shot learning tasks. Our findings highlight the respective limitations of MIM and CL in terms of discriminative and generalization abilities, which contribute to their underperformance in U-FSL contexts. To address these trade-offs between generalization and discriminability in unsupervised pretraining, we introduce a novel paradigm named Masked Image Contrastive Modeling (MICM). MICM creatively combines the targeted object learning strength of CL with the generalized visual feature learning capability of MIM, significantly enhancing its efficacy in downstream few-shot learning inference. Extensive experimental analyses confirm the advantages of MICM, demonstrating significant improvements in both generalization and discrimination capabilities for few-shot learning. Our comprehensive quantitative evaluations further substantiate the superiority of MICM, showing that our two-stage U-FSL framework based on MICM markedly outperforms existing leading baselines.
