This paper introduces an information presentation strategy for pedestrians, aiming to enhance traffic efficiency in a mixed pedestrian-automated vehicle environment, such as a public road. While automated driving technology has made remarkable progress, interactions with pedestrians on regular roads have mostly been studied in virtual environments using virtual reality goggles. According to these studies, potential traffic efficiency and safety issues arise from pedestrians' limited understanding of automated vehicle behavior. To address this, we propose a human-machine interface employing a head-mounted display (HMD) to mitigate traffic efficiency degradation caused by pedestrians. The proposed system draws upon behavioral economics principles to encourage pedestrians to modify their behavior and develop better interactions with automated vehicles. Simulations were conducted to identify an information presentation strategy that strongly supports learning, and its effectiveness was further validated through experiments involving a real vehicle. Notably, the experimental results confirmed that the information presentation strategies proven effective in simulations also facilitated pedestrian learning during real-world interactions. © 2024 IEEE.

RGB-Based Category-Level Object Pose Estimation via Depth Recovery and Adaptive Refinement

Category-level pose estimation methods have received widespread attention as they can be generalized to intra-class unseen objects. Although RGB-D-based category-level methods have made significant progress, reliance on depth image limits practical application. RGB-based methods offer a more practical and cost-effective solution. However, current RGB-based methods struggle with object geometry perception, leading to inaccurate pose estimation. We propose depth recovery and adaptive refinement for category-level object pose estimation from a single RGB image. We leverage DINOv2 to reconstruct the coarse scene-level depth from the input RGB image and propose an adaptive refinement network based on an encoder-decoder architecture to dynamically improve the predicted coarse depth and reduce its gap from the ground truth. We introduce a 2D–3D consistency loss to ensure correspondence between the point cloud obtained from depth projection and the objects in the 2D image. This consistency supervision enables the model to maintain alignment between the depth image and the point cloud. Finally, we extract features from the refined point cloud and feed them into two confidence-aware rotation regression branches and a translation and size prediction residual branch for end-to-end training. Decoupling the rotation matrix provides a more direct representation, which facilitates parameter optimization and gradient propagation. Extensive experiments on the REAL275 and CAMERA25 datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our method. Real-world estimation and robotic grasping experiments demonstrate our model robustness to occlusion, clutter environments, and low-textured objects. In this paper, the attack detection problem is investigated for a class of closed-loop systems subjected to unknownbutbounded noises in the presence of stealthy attacks. The measurement outputs from the sensors are quantized before transmission.A specific type of perfect stealthy attack, which meets certain rather stringent conditions, is taken into account. Such attacks could be injected by adversaries into both the sensor-toestimator and controller-to-actuator channels, with the aim of disrupting the normal data flow. For the purpose of defending against these perfect stealthy attacks, a novel scheme based on watermarks is developed. This scheme includes the injection of watermarks(applied to data prior to quantization) and the recovery of data(implemented before the data reaches the estimator).The watermark-based scheme is designed to be both timevarying and hidden from adversaries through incorporating a time-varying and bounded watermark signal. Subsequently, a watermark-based attack detection strategy is proposed which thoroughly considers the characteristics of perfect stealthy attacks,thereby ensuring that an alarm is activated upon the occurrence of such attacks. An example is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed mechanism for detecting attacks.

This paper focuses on a navigation of a Dubins vehicle (DV) to intercept a moving target on a sphere. The uncertainty in the target motion is described by a Brownian motion model. An Itô-type stochastic differential equation for the relative motion between DV and the Brownian moving target is derived. This stochastic differential equation is used to formulate an intercept controller as a minimum time optimal controller. The properties of the controller are incorporated into the numerical computations of the controller, which by its construction can intercept a Brownian target. Our numerical simulation results show that the computed controller can intercept both stationary and moving targets on the sphere. © 2024 IEEE.

In the process of coal mine drilling,controlling the rotary speed is important as it determines the efficiency and safety of *** this paper,a linear extended state observer(LESO)based backstepping controller for rotary speed is proposed,which can overcome the impact of changes in coal seam hardness on rotary ***,the influence of coal seam hardness on the drilling rig’s rotary system is considered for the first time,which is reflected in the numerical variation of load torque,and a dynamic model for the design of rotary speed controller is *** an LESO is designed to observe the load torque,and feedforward compensation is carried out to overcome the influence of coal seam *** on the model of the compensated system,a backstepping method is used to design a controller to achieve tracking control of the rotary ***,the effectiveness of the controller designed in this paper is demonstrated through simulation and field experiments,the steady-state error of the rotary speed in field is 1 r/min,and the overshoot is reduced to 5.8%.This greatly improves the stability and security,which is exactly what the drilling process requires.

This work formulates the feedback control strategies for vehicles to reach a goal point amongst a field of dynamic risk regions. Whereas previous work has considered deterministic versions of this problem, we consider the scenario in the context of uncertainty. This uncertainty could be due to unknown wind or other external disturbances. The risk regions’ dynamics are tightly coupled to the state of the vehicle and as a result the task of navigating through a field dynamically changes as the vehicle traverses through it. Rather than using a nonlinear program solver, the approach taken here is one of formulating the problem as a stochastic optimal control problem wherein a feedback control law is derived. This feedback control law allows a single or multiple vehicles to reach the desired goal location efficiently and with minimal risk incursion. When inside a risk region, there is a probability rate of the vehicle being neutralized. The stochastic dynamical system is modeled as a hybrid system, i.e., regime switching diffusion. The hybrid system is comprised of continuous spatial dynamics and discrete operational states corresponding to "normal" and "neutralized". The optimal control problem is discretized into a field of vehicle states and control. Using Value Iteration, the control signal at each discrete location is optimized, providing a feedback control strategy over the field. Brain-computer interface (BCI) actively translates the brain signals into executable actions by establishing direct communication between the human brain and external devices. Recording brain activity through electroencephalography (EEG) is generally contaminated with both physiological and nonphysiological artifacts, which significantly hinders the BCI performance. Artifact subspace reconstruction (ASR) is a well-known statistical technique that automatically removes artifact components by determining the rejection threshold based on the initial reference EEG segment in multichannel EEG recordings. In real-world applications, the fixed threshold may limit the efficacy of the artifact correction, especially when the quality of the reference data is poor. This study proposes an adaptive online ASR technique by integrating the Hebbian/anti-Hebbian neural networks into the ASR algorithm, namely, principle subspace projection ASR (PSP-ASR) and principal subspace whitening ASR (PSW-ASR) that segmentwise self-organize the artifact subspace by updating the synaptic weights according to the Hebbian and anti-Hebbian learning rules. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is compared to the conventional ASR approaches on benchmark EEG dataset and three BCI frameworks, including steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP), rapid serial visual presentation (RSVP), and motor imagery (MI) by evaluating the root-mean-square error (RMSE), the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the Pearson correlation, and classification accuracy. The results demonstrated that the PSW-ASR algorithm effectively removed the EEG artifacts and retained the activity-specific brain signals compared to the PSP-ASR, standard ASR (Init-ASR), and moving-window ASR (MW-ASR) methods, thereby enhancing the SSVEP, RSVP, and MI BCI performances. Utility mining has recently attracted much attention in real-world applications because it fits actual situations. Fuzzy utility mining approaches can discover important high-utility patterns in linguistic terms. Data, however, usually come intermittently, and users may want to know currently updated mining results instead of only the ones at the previous stage. Thus, maintaining correct knowledge is very important to this requirement. In the past, we used the fast-updated (FUP) approach and tree structures to manage the maintenance problem of fuzzy utility mining for incremental databases. In this work, we adopt the pre-large-itemset concept to speed up the tree-based maintenance of high fuzzy utility itemsets. The proposed method uses the header table and the pre-large threshold to reduce database scans for efficiency improvement. From the experimental results, the proposed approach performs better than the FUP-tree-based and batching method. © 2023 ACM.
