Mixed traffic dynamic evacuation is a challenging task considering heterogeneous populations and traffic congestion. Based on a novel objective function of minimum evacuation network clearance time (ENCT), this paper proposes a mixed traffic dynamic evacuation planning (MTDEP) model, which determines both fleet demand and road supply management strategies, including mixed fleet configuration, lane allocation, lane reversal, and cross-elimination intersections. In this model, a road network is discretized into a multi-size cell network to load mixed traffic, and the holding-back problem of the relaxed CTM is eliminated by adding the penalty term. Then, the proposed model is linearized as a mixed-integer linear program, and a Kriging surrogate-based optimization (KSBO) algorithm is developed. Numerical experiments are conducted on a six-link network and the Sioux-Falls network to validate the effectiveness of our proposed model and solution method. The results show that: (a) the evacuation efficiency of using a mixed fleet is better than that of using a homogeneous fleet in a certain evacuation demand range;(b) while the collaborative management strategies could improve evacuation efficiency, they also take into account the evacuation fairness of the mixed fleet;and (c) the holding-back problem does not affect ENCT but increases the total travel time of all evacuees (ETTT), which should be completely eliminated. © 2022, The Authors. With urban expansion and economic development, traditional industrial parks with single function cannot adapt to the pace of urban development. As a new type of industrial park, the industry-city integration has gradually become the development direction. There is no tailor-made quantitative planning scheme at this stage. Aiming at filling the gap, this research does the following work to provide quantitative guidance strategy for industrial park planning. This paper first analyzes the Transit-oriented development (TOD) model requirements of new industrial parks, and makes a detailed analysis of the interaction between land use and transportation. Secondly, based on the relationship between land use and transportation, a combined feedback model of the land planning model and the public transportation utility allocation model is established. The process of modeling is to plan the smallest land unit according to the principle of land use function combination and land use type to meet the needs of residents. The other is to plan public transportation with optimal road load according to the principle of public transportation guiding travel and maximizing travel efficiency. Notedly, this paper uses the TOPSIS method to normalize the planning score through the feedback relationship between land use planning and public transportation planning. Based the analysis, the genetic algorithm is used to optimize the planning score and obtain the best plan which provides quantitative guidance strategies for the industrial park planning. Finally, this paper selects the “Blank Land” of Suzhou Industrial Parks for case analysis, and the best standardized score after planning is about 87 points. In order to further analyze the planning effect and the relationship between the planned area and the rest of the land, ArcGIS is used to carry out demand analysis and land use radiation range analysis of the planning scheme. Slow transportation mode, consisting of walking and cycling, plays an important role in urban traffic system. Based on the fact that bicycles and pedestrians often share the common road facility, we conducted bicycle-pedestrian mixed flow experiments to investigate the interaction effect among individuals in a 10 m-long, 3 m-wide passageway, mimicking the zebra crossing area. The goal is to explore the influence of bicycles proportion ( p ) on traffic efficiency and investigate the spatial distribution of agents in the mixed flow. Our analyses showed that the increase of bicycle proportion results in longer passing time and less travel time because of large personal space requirements of cyclists. When the bicycle proportion is small or large, the majority pedestrians (bicycles) were divided into several parts by minor bicycles (pedestrians) along the motion direction. We also recorded the following- and lateral- distance between two nearest individuals to calculate the theoretical formula of the passing time for unidirectional bicycle-pedestrian mixed flow based on the existing formula. Comparing the passing time between numerical calculation and experimental data, the effect coefficients for bicycle and pedestrian were obtained. Focusing on the overtaking bicycles, the through gap, lateral and headway distance that decide the overtaking behavior were analyzed. These findings are the first step toward the development of bicycle-pedestrian mixed flow on zebra crossing, which is contribute to provide practical implications for the planning and design of bicycle and pedestrian shared infrastructures. © 2022, The Authors. As a significant factor in urban planning and traffic forecasting, human mobility draws intensive attentions in recent years with the emergence of geo-related data. In this paper, we build models for human mobility with regards to individuals' largest daily displacement using Extreme Value Theory (EVT) based on nearly 40 million individuals' trajectories. It is found that the largest daily displacement can be well fitted by the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) and is not heavy tailed compared to the exponential distribution. Besides, we also explored differences in distribution of the largest daily displacement according to gender and weekday. The analysis results indicate that male tend to have a larger displacement and individuals tend to travel longer on weekends.

A universal opportunity model for human mobility

Predicting human mobility between locations has practical applications in transportation science, spatial economics, sociology and many other fields. For more than 100 years, many human mobility prediction models have been proposed, among which the gravity model analogous to Newton's law of gravitation is widely used. Another classical model is the intervening opportunity (IO) model, which indicates that an individual selecting a destination is related to both the destination's opportunities and the intervening opportunities between the origin and the destination. The IO model established from the perspective of individual selection behavior has recently triggered the establishment of many new IO class models. Although these IO class models can achieve accurate prediction at specific spatiotemporal scales, an IO class model that can describe an individual's destination selection behavior at different spatiotemporal scales is still lacking. Here, we develop a universal opportunity model that considers two human behavioral tendencies: one is the exploratory tendency, and the other is the cautious tendency. Our model establishes a new framework in IO class models and covers the classical radiation model and opportunity priority selection model. Furthermore, we use various mobility data to demonstrate our model's predictive ability. The results show that our model can better predict human mobility than previous IO class models. Moreover, this model can help us better understand the underlying mechanism of the individual's destination selection behavior in different types of human mobility. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. From a Social Cognitive Perspective: Context-aware Visual Social Relationship Recognition

People's social relationships are often manifested through their surroundings, with certain objects or interactions acting as symbols for specific relationships, e.g., wedding rings, roses, hugs, or holding hands. This brings unique challenges to recognizing social relationships, requiring understanding and capturing the essence of these contexts from visual appearances. However, current methods of social relationship understanding rely on the basic classification paradigm of detected persons and objects, which fails to understand the comprehensive context and often overlooks decisive social factors, especially subtle visual cues. To highlight the social-aware context and intricate details, we propose a novel approach that recognizes Contextual Social Relationships (ConSoR) from a social cognitive perspective. Specifically, to incorporate social-aware semantics, we build a lightweight adapter upon the frozen CLIP to learn social concepts via our novel multi-modal side adapter tuning mechanism. Further, we construct social-aware descriptive language prompts (e.g., scene, activity, objects, emotions) with social relationships for each image, and then compel ConSoR to concentrate more intensively on the decisive visual social factors via visual-linguistic contrasting. Impressively, ConSoR outperforms previous methods with a 12.2% gain on the People-in-Social-Context (PISC) dataset and a 9.8% increase on the People-in-Photo-Album (PIPA) benchmark. Purpose The purpose of this study is to effectively optimize vehicle lane-changing behavior and alleviate traffic congestion in ramp area through the study of vehicle lane-changing behaviors in upstream segment of ramp areas. Design/methodology/approach In the upstream segment of ramp areas under a connected vehicle environment, different strategies of vehicle group lane-changing behaviors are modeled to obtain the best group lane-changing strategy. The traffic capacity of roads can be improved by controlling group lane-changing behavior and continuously optimizing lane-changing strategy through connected vehicle technologies. This paper constructs vehicle group lane-changing strategies in upstream segment of ramp areas under a connected vehicle environment. The proposed strategies are simulated by VISSIM. Findings The results show that different lane-changing strategies are modeled through vehicle group in the upstream segment of ramp areas, which can greatly reduce the delay of ramp areas. Originality/value The simulation results verify the validity and rationality of the corresponding vehicle group lane-changing behavior model strategies, effectively standardize the driver's lane-changing behavior, and improve road safety and capacity.

On the precise quantification of the impact of a single discretionary lane change on surrounding traffic

Lane-changing is a critical maneuver of vehicle driving, and a comprehensive understanding of its impact on traffic is essential for effective traffic management and optimization. Unfortunately, existing studies fail to adequately distinguish the impact of lane changes from those resulting from natural traffic dynamics. Additionally, there is a lack of precise methods for measuring the spatial extent and duration of the impact of a single discretionary lane change, as well as a definitive metric to quantify the overall spatiotemporal impact. To address these gaps, this study introduces a quantitative indicator called the Corrected Travel Distance Bias (CTDB), which accounts for variable speeds due to inherent traffic dynamics, providing a more accurate assessment of lane-changing impacts. A comprehensive methodology is developed to compare vehicle trajectory data before and after lane-changing events, measuring both the magnitude and spatiotemporal extent of the lane-changing impact. The results, based on the Zen traffic data from Japan, indicate that the impact of a lane change in the target lane lasts an average of 23.8 seconds, affecting approximately 5.6 vehicles, with a CTDB value of -10.8 meters. In contrast, in the original lane, the impact lasts 25 seconds, affects 5.3 vehicles, and yields a CTDB value of 4.7 meters. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Urban rail transit (URT) is vulnerable to natural disasters and social emergencies including fire, storm and epidemic (such as COVID-19), and real-time origin-destination (OD) flow prediction provides URT operators with important information to ensure the safety of URT system. However, hindered by the high dimensionality of OD flow and the lack of supportive information reflecting the real-time passenger flow changes, study in this area is at the beginning stage. A novel model consisting of two stages is proposed for OD flow prediction. The first stage predicts the inflows of all stations by Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) in real time, where the dimension is reduced compared with predicting OD flows directly. In the second stage, the notion of separation rate, namely, the proportion of inbound passengers bounding for another station, is estimated. Finally, The OD flow is predicted by multiplying the inflow and separation rate. Experiments based on Hangzhou Metro dataset show the proposed model outperforms the contrast model in weighted mean average error (WMAE) and weighted mean square error (WMSE). Results also suggest that the proposed prediction model performs better on weekdays than on weekends, and with greater accuracy on larger OD flows. © 2000-2011 IEEE.
