Confronted with the severe indoor air pollution nowadays, we propose the usage of multiple robots to detect the indoor air quality (IAQ) cooperatively for fewer sensors and larger sensing area. To acquire the complete real-time IAQ distribution map, we exploit the real statistical data to construct the IAQ data model and adopt Kalman Filter to obtain the estimation of the unmeasured area. Since the movement of the robots affects the estimation accuracy, a proper movement strategy should be planned to minimize the total estimation error. To solve this optimization problem, we design a deep Q-learning approach, which provides sub-optimal movement strategies for real-time robot sensing. By simulations, we verify the adopted IAQ data model and testify the effectiveness of the proposed solution. For application considerations, we have deployed this system in Peking University since Dec. 2018 and developed a website to visualize the IAQ distribution.

ImplantFormer: Vision Transformer based Implant Position Regression Using Dental CBCT data

Implant prosthesis is the most appropriate treatment for dentition defect or dentition loss, which usually involves a surgical guide design process to decide the implant position. However, such design heavily relies on the subjective experiences of dentists. In this paper, a transformer-based Implant Position Regression Network, ImplantFormer, is proposed to automatically predict the implant position based on the oral CBCT data. We creatively propose to predict the implant position using the 2D axial view of the tooth crown area and fit a centerline of the implant to obtain the actual implant position at the tooth root. Convolutional stem and decoder are designed to coarsely extract image features before the operation of patch embedding and integrate multi-level feature maps for robust prediction, respectively. As both long-range relationship and local features are involved, our approach can better represent global information and achieves better location performance. Extensive experiments on a dental implant dataset through five-fold cross-validation demonstrated that the proposed ImplantFormer achieves superior performance than existing methods. Crystal Structure Prediction by Joint Equivariant Diffusion

Crystal Structure Prediction (CSP) is crucial in various scientific disciplines. While CSP can be addressed by employing currently-prevailing generative models (e.g. diffusion models), this task encounters unique challenges owing to the symmetric geometry of crystal structures—the invariance of translation, rotation, and periodicity. To incorporate the above symmetries, this paper proposes DiffCSP, a novel diffusion model to learn the structure distribution from stable crystals. To be specific, DiffCSP jointly generates the lattice and atom coordinates for each crystal by employing a periodic-E(3)-equivariant denoising model, to better model the crystal geometry. Notably, different from related equivariant generative approaches, DiffCSP leverages fractional coordinates other than Cartesian coordinates to represent crystals, remarkably promoting the diffusion and the generation process of atom positions. Extensive experiments verify that our DiffCSP significantly outperforms existing CSP methods, with a much lower computation cost in contrast to DFT-based methods. Spatiotemporal assessment of renewable adequacy during diverse extreme weather events in China

China has one of the world’s largest wind and solar energy capacity worldwide; however, frequent extreme weather events remain major challenges to power systems. This study provides a nuanced examination of power balance issues on seven extreme weather types that occurred from 2020 to 2050. Utilizing an advanced metric for renewable adequacy and a comprehensive dataset comprising 1,089,891 alert records from 2843 counties, the results indicate that both adequacy surplus and deficit coexist in power systems under extreme weather conditions. In 2020, extreme weather led to a reduction in renewable energy by 31.79 TWh. Projections indicate this could rise to 263.61 TWh by 2050, equivalent to the combined annual electricity consumption in 2020 of Beijing and Shanghai, China’s two largest cities. An extensive analysis that includes 4 evolutionary paths and 45 load conditions suggests that the average demand for provincial flexibility during extreme weather is projected to peak at 11.03 GW in 2050.

This research mainly uses the Wi-Fi module (ESP8266) microcontroller to implement the IoT-based smart home system. In this study of smart home system is able to power the circuit by the photovoltaic cell itself and then wirelessly switch to the required load. As technology is expanding every day, mobile, robotics, machines learning are advancing their technology then why our house is an exception. Today’s house moving slowly based on common/human input controlling to smart/IoT-enabled devices to be controlled remotely. Currently, use the existing smart home system technology that is limited to this device only. Because of this, IoT devices are now being applied in various fields, but unfortunately, low cost and simple IoT applications are still insufficient in smart home. However, this study is concerned with the Node MCU (ESP8266) microcontroller used to control the power switches remotely. The users can control witches using web application after authenticating based on low cost and simple IoT application systems;this study has important contributions to the development of smart homes with high price–performance ratio in future. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Body temperature detection in pigs is vital for effective pig breeding, particularly in large-scale farming where traditional infrared thermal imaging methods typically measure only one pig at a time, leading to inefficient monitoring. This study introduces a novel approach for detecting the body temperature of group-raised pigs by leveraging an image super-resolution (SR) algorithm alongside an instantaneous posture recognition technique. The Porcine-ESRGAN was employed to preprocess thermal infrared images, addressing issues related to low resolution and improving the characterization of target areas. Additionally, an improved You Only Look Once v7 (YOLOv7) based on pig posture classification was proposed and named ITG-YOLOv7. ITG-YOLOv7 was developed to identify the instantaneous posture of pigs and measure their ear root or eye temperature. This approach effectively resolves the challenge of obtaining the temperatures of pigs in a lying position. The ITG-YOLOv7 model integrates multi-scale features through the Scale Sequence Feature Fusion (SSFF) module and optimizes parameters with the Generalized Efficient Layer Aggregation Network (GELAN). The incorporation of Shape-IoU as the anchor box loss function enhances bounding box regression accuracy, thus improving detection precision. Performance assessment of Porcine-ESRGAN using thermal infrared images before and after preprocessing. The processed images significantly improve the detection precision (P), recall (R), and mean average precision (mAP) for lying pigs by 3.1%, 11.5%, and 6.9%, indicating that the method is effective in enhancing the temperature detection accuracy for lying pigs. The proposed ITG-YOLOv7 model achieves an accuracy of 93.2%, a R of 95.4%, and an mAP of 97.5% with a model size of 61.9 MB when used in conjunction with the Porcine-ESRGAN model. News recommender system is an important method of helping readers identify interesting stories. Although human behaviors exhibit sequential patterns, most current studies on news recommendations ignore the influence of reading sequences. Leveraging sequential patterns in news recommendation is, however, very challenging, as the capture of reading behavior sequence at the individual level may be impossible due to severity of sparsity in the field of news. To address this challenge, we proposed a group-sequence-aware graph model (GSGM) to learn representative reading sequences of groups instead of individuals, where groups are viewed as latent variables and automatically learnt from users' reading behaviours. Besides, when readers select different groups, they are likely to have distinct reading preferences. This finding is used to learn group-dependent personal reading preferences in GSGM. A wide range of experiments are conducted to verify the efficiency and effectiveness of the GSGM on real datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that GSGM outperforms the state-of-the-art competing methods. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A massive number of vehicles are used everywhere in the world, which is continuous to caused serious problems that are effective both for human life and the environment. Air smog, global boiling, and rapid reduction of earth petroleum incomes are now serious problems. To overcome these problems shortly, Hybrid Electrical Vehicles and Electrical Vehicles are proposed with interleaved DC/DC boost converters to replace conventional vehicles to get rid of the above-discussed problems. DC/DC converters are used to interface between input voltages supplied by the battery and output. DC/DC converters are used for chopping or boosting the voltage level. The power converter structure becomes lightweight, reliable, small volume, high efficiency, low current, and voltage ripples due to vehicle limitations. This paper integrates the classical resource-constrained project scheduling problem with step deterioration and accordingly presents a solution-based tabu search (SB-TS) algorithm to solve it with challenging computations. First, we choose successor list size as the priority rule to generate the initial solution of the presented methods. Next, the corresponding solution decoding and calculation ways are defined to update the related configuration at each iteration. Compared with the state-of-the-art methods, in terms of the known datasets, the proposed SB-TS finds the optimal solution for each instance in J30 and shows strongly competitive performance in J60, J90, and J120. Then, on newly generated datasets, where the step deterioration is attached to, the comparison experimental data state that the SB-TS with high-quality solution is superior to the move-based tabu search (MB-TS) algorithm. In addition, two key components are investigated to emphasize their attributions to the proposed algorithm. © 2023 Huafeng Dai et al.

一般情况下,每年冬季是季节性流感高发季节,但在当前2019冠状病毒病(COVID-19)大流行期间,全球季节性流感活动呈“断崖式”下降。为应对即将到来的流感季节,亟需弄清这种前所未有的流感低水平流行的原因。本文中,我们探索了一种国家特异性推理模型,利用该模型估计中国、英国和美国这三个国家中佩戴口罩、人员流动变化(国际和国内)以及严重急性呼吸综合征冠状病毒2型(SARS-CoV-2)干扰的影响。结果发现,在这些地区增加一周佩戴口罩的干预措施,流感活动可减少11.3%~35.2%。实施一周的限制人员流动措施对国际(1.7%~6.5%)和国内社区(1.6%~2.8%)的影响较小。2020年至2021年,仅佩戴口罩这一项干预措施就可使阳性率下降13.3%至19.8%。仅人员流动变化可使阳性率降低5.2%至14.0%,其中79.8%~98.2%归因于国际旅行限制。SARS-CoV-2干扰仅在2019年至2020年具有统计学显著效应。中国北方地区及英国的阳性百分比分别降低7.6%(2.4~14.4)和10.2%(7.2~13.6)。探索所得出的结果对了解非药物干预措施和其他呼吸系统疾病背景下的流感演变有一定意义,有助于制定卫生政策,并可为公共卫生措施的个性化设计提供信息。
