Short-form video feed has become one of the most popular ways for billions of users to interact with content, where users watch short-form videos of a few seconds one-by-one in a session. The common solution to improve the quality of experience (QoE) for short-form video feed is to treat it as a common sequential item recommendation problem and maximize its click-through rate prediction. However, the QoE of short-form video streaming under dynamic network conditions is jointly determined by both recommendation accuracy and streaming efficiency, and thus merely considering recommendation will lead to the degradation of the QoE of the streaming system for the audience. In this paper, we propose SSR, namely the short-form video streaming and recommendation system, which consists of a Transformer-based recommendation module and a reinforcement learning (RL) based bitrate adaptation streaming module. Specifically, we use Transformer to encode the session into a representation vector and recommend proper short-form videos based on the user's recent interest and the timeliness characteristics of short-form video contents. Then, the RL module combines the representation of session and other observations within the playback, and yields the appropriate bitrate allocation for the next short-form video to optimize a given QoE objective. Trace-driven emulations verify the efficiency of SSR compared to several state-of-the-art recommender systems and streaming strategies with at least 10%-15% QoE improvement under various QoE objectives.

In global data analysis, the central server needs the global statistic of the user data stored in local clients. In such cases, an Honest-but-Curious central server might put user privacy at risk in trying to collect individual statistics of each user. In response, the secure aggregation provides a solution for calculating global statistics without revealing users' privacy data. However, existing secure aggregation protocols only focus on the data in the form of vectors or common sets, which limits their application scope. We formalize a general problem - key-value set secure aggregation - that not only includes secure vector aggregation and private set union but also supports more applications. To address the proposed problem, we devise our solution (called the KVSAgg framework) that promises satisfactory performance in security, efficiency, and accuracy. Our key technique is a homomorphic transform algorithm (called HyperIBLT) that is not only capable of bidirectionally transforming data between key-value sets and vectors, but also able to transform sum operation of sets to addition of vectors. We implement KVSAgg on both CPU and GPU platforms and perform the evaluation on three use cases including federated learning, distributed data counting, and finding global hot items. Compared with our baselines, KVSAgg simultaneously achieves the best security, efficiency higher by orders of magnitude, and zero-error in nearly all cases. With the increase in the number of vehicles in our country, traffic accidents have become frequent. The real-time detection of dense traffic vehicles is particularly important, which can promote the development of autonomous driving and lay a good foundation for intelligent transportation. Aiming at the problems such as high vehicle overlap rate, high small target missing rate and poor real-time detection in traffic vehicle data set, a traffic vehicle target detection method based on improved YOLOv7 was proposed. Firstly, the neck network structure of the original YOLOv7 is lightweight and introduced into the GhostSlimPAN paradigm structure to reduce the number of model parameters and operation cost, and improve the accuracy of detection of small target vehicles. Then, the original loss function CIoU is improved to replusion loss function to reduce the missed and false detection rate caused by mutual occlusion between vehicles. In order to verify the effect of the improved model, the vehicle dataset was selected for testing and verification. The experimental results show that compared with the original YOLOv7 algorithm, the mAP@0.5 of the improved YOLOv7 algorithm on this dataset reaches 88.2%, which is 1.8% higher than that of the benchmark network. The improved algorithm can be applied to vehicle target detection in daily environment, providing key technical support for intelligent transportation and autonomous driving. © 2024 ACM.

Virtual power plant (VPP) responds to dynamic changes in the system by aggregating distributed energy resources (DERs). The massive DERs rely on a reliable communication network system to realize high-frequency information collection and real-time monitoring data generation. However, due to the geographic dispersion of DERs with strong uncertainty and heterogeneity, the information of DERs faces problems such as data transmission congestion, complicated types and huge storage capacity, etc. For the frequency regulation service with strict latency requirement, the limited basic communication facilities results in information that cannot ensure the timeliness and reliability of the uplink and downlink data transmission, which negatively affects the actual responsiveness and dynamic performance and makes the individual DER and the VPP response credibility is reduced. Therefore, in this paper, we first evaluate the impact of communication delay and the packet loss rate on the VPP's capability to provide frequency regulation services, and then adopt the cooperative relaying strategy to reduce the communication latency and the packet loss rate to guarantee VPP's performance.

Nowadays, short video feed has attracted billions of mobile users all around the world to interact with content effortlessly, yielding an explosive growth of short video commerce. Typically, users watch full-screen short videos of a few seconds one-by-one in a watch-list generated by recommender systems, skipping those they are not interested in. However, the recommender system at the cloud makes a user-interest-specific decision mostly based on the users' behavior data collected within the application itself (e.g., users' view history), without examining the lower-layer network and communication statistics. When the playback choked due to the limited network bandwidth, the user will probably skip the video, leading to a waste of bandwidth and degradation of the user's quality of experience (QoE). Meanwhile, the excessive number of user requests to video contents raises a heavy computational load and communication cost for the recommender system at the cloud to determine which videos to be recommended and delivered to each user in a real-time manner. The advance of edge computing provides a promising avenue of deploying edge nodes with caches (e.g., household devices) beyond cloud and edge servers, such that the recommender system in the cloud can place popular video contents closer to client users, and meanwhile the contents are delivered to client users with good network condition. In this paper, we propose CFP, a cross-layer recommender system for short video streaming with fine-grained preloading technique at the network edge. CFP jointly optimizes the recommendation effect of the video application and the content preloading efficiency under various network conditions at the network edge. With an increasing frequency of natural disasters and security attacks, the safe and stable operation of smart grid has been challenged unprecedently. To reduce the economic loss and social impact caused by power outage accidents, it is urgent to develop and improve the smart grid technology, and strengthen the disaster resistance and recovery capability of smart grids when faced with extreme events. As an efficient and flexible secondary energy source, hydrogen is crucial in improving the resilience of smart grid and supporting energy security. To further promote the deep integration of hydrogen systems and smart grid and improve the energy system resilience, the resilience of smart grids supported by hydrogen is assessed in this study. First, a technical framework of hydrogen-powered smart grid resilience is established, and the value of hydrogen-powered smart grid resilience is analysed considering different time frames (before, during and after an extreme event) of smart grids facing extreme events. Then, hydrogen-powered smart grid resilience is investigated from perspectives of pre-prevention regulation, in-process correction regulation, and post-recovery regulation. Finally, future direction for hydrogen-powered smart grid resilience is investigated and related policy suggestions are provided. © 2023 The Authors. Background: There is a shortage of rehabilitation doctors and treatment equipment for patients with lumbar spondylosis. Therefore, a waist massage instrument (WMI) is designed to help patients alle-viate lumbar pain. Objective: The objective of this study is to design a new WMI with the advantages of simple structure, lightweight, and function of effective force control, and to verify its function of palmar push, palmar press, and palmar vibration based on the on-off control, PID control, and fuzzy-PID control. Methods: Firstly, the movement characteristics of the Chinese massage manipulation are analyzed to clarify the design principle of the massage instrument. Then, a new WMI composed of massage head, vibration exciter, and actuator is designed to simulate the three massage manipulations. Next, the electric control system and control methods of on-off, PID, and fuzzy-PID controllers are introduced to realize the force control of WMI. Finally, the force control experiments of WMI are carried out to verify the function of the palmar press, palmar push, and palmar vibration based on the on-off control, PID control, and fuzzy-PID control, respectively. Results: The experimental results indicate that the proposed WMI can implement the massage manipulations of palmar push, palmar press, and palmar vibration well, and has good force control ability after using fuzzy-PID control. Conclusion: The newly designed WMI is effective in providing palmar push, palmar press, and palmar vibration massage manipulations for patients with lumbar spondylosis, and the fuzzy-PID controller im-proves the force control ability of the instrument. The WMI has the potential to be used as an effective treatment for lumbar pain. © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

A range filter is a data structure to answer range membership queries. Range queries are common in modern applications, and range filters have gained rising attention for improving the performance of range queries by ruling out empty range queries. However, state-of-the-art range filters, such as SuRF and Rosetta, suffer either high false positive rate or low throughput. In this paper, we propose a novel range filter, called REncoder. It organizes all prefixes of keys into a segment tree, and locally encodes the segment tree into a Bloom filter to accelerate queries. REncoder supports diverse workloads by adaptively choosing how many levels of the segment tree to store. We theoretically prove that the error of REncoder is bounded and derive the asymptotic space complexity under the bounded error. We conduct extensive experiments on both synthetic datasets and real datasets. The experimental results show that REncoder outperforms all state-of-the-art range filters. © 2023 IEEE.

An analytical solution is undertaken to describe the wave-induced flow field and the surge motion of a permeable platform structure with fuzzy controllers in an oceanic *** the design procedure of the controller,a parallel distributed compensation（PDC） scheme is utilized to construct a global fuzzy logic controller by blending all local state feedback controllers.A stability analysis is carried out for a real structure system by using Lyapunov *** corresponding boundary value problems are then incorporated into scattering and radiation *** are analytically solved,based on separation of variables,to obtain series solutions in terms of the harmonic incident wave motion and surge *** dependence of the wave-induced flow field and its resonant frequency on wave characteristics and structure properties including platform width,thickness and mass has been thus drawn with a parametric *** which mathematical models are applied for the wave-induced displacement of the surge motion.A nonlinearly inverted pendulum system is employed to demonstrate that the controller tuned by swarm intelligence method can not only stabilize the nonlinear system,but has the robustness against external disturbance.
