Medical report generation is crucial for clinical diagnosis and patient management, summarizing diagnoses and recommendations based on medical imaging. However, existing work often overlook the clinical pipeline involved in report writing, where physicians typically conduct an initial quick review followed by a detailed examination. Moreover, current alignment methods may lead to misaligned relationships. To address these issues, we propose DAMPER, a dual-stage framework for medical report generation that mimics the clinical pipeline of report writing in two stages. In the first stage, a MeSH-Guided Coarse-Grained Alignment (MCG) stage that aligns chest X-ray (CXR) image features with medical subject headings (MeSH) features to generate a rough keyphrase representation of the overall impression. In the second stage, a Hypergraph-Enhanced Fine-Grained Alignment (HFG) stage that constructs hypergraphs for image patches and report annotations, modeling high-order relationships within each modality and performing hypergraph matching to capture semantic correlations between image regions and textual phrases. Finally,the coarse-grained visual features, generated MeSH representations, and visual hypergraph features are fed into a report decoder to produce the final medical report. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of DAMPER in generating comprehensive and accurate medical reports, outperforming state-of-the-art methods across various evaluation metrics. Java 8 has introduced lambda expressions, a core feature of functional programming. Since its introduction, there is an increasing trend of lambda adoptions in Java projects. Developers often adopt lambda expressions to simplify code, avoid code duplication or simulate other functional features. However, we observe that lambda expressions can also incur different types of side effects (i.e., performance issues and memory leakages) or even severe bugs, and developers also frequently remove lambda expressions in their implementations. Consequently, the advantages of utilizing lambda expressions can be significantly compromised by the collateral side effects. In this study, we present the first large-scale, quantitative and qualitative empirical study to characterize and understand inappropriate usages of lambda expressions. Particularly, we summarized seven main reasons for the removal of lambdas as well as seven common migration patterns. For instance, we observe that lambdas using customized functional interfaces are more likely to be removed by developers. Moreover, from a complementary perspective, we performed a user study over 30 developers to seek the underlying reasons why they remove lambda expressions in practice. Finally, based on our empirical results, we made suggestions on scenarios to avoid lambda usages for Java developers and also pointed out future directions for researchers.

BadHash: Invisible Backdoor Attacks against Deep Hashing with Clean Label

Due to its powerful feature learning capability and high efficiency, deep hashing has achieved great success in large-scale image retrieval. Meanwhile, extensive works have demonstrated that deep neural networks (DNNs) are susceptible to adversarial examples, and exploring adversarial attack against deep hashing has attracted many research efforts. Nevertheless, backdoor attack, another famous threat to DNNs, has not been studied for deep hashing yet. Although various backdoor attacks have been proposed in the field of image classification, existing approaches failed to realize a truly imperceptive backdoor attack that enjoys invisible triggers and clean label setting simultaneously, and they also cannot meet the intrinsic demand of image retrieval backdoor. In this paper, we propose BadHash, the first generative-based imperceptible backdoor attack against deep hashing, which can effectively generate invisible and input-specific poisoned images with clean label. Specifically, we first propose a new conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) pipeline to effectively generate poisoned samples. For any given benign image, it seeks to generate a natural-looking poisoned counterpart with a unique invisible trigger. In order to improve the attack effectiveness, we introduce a label-based contrastive learning network LabCLN to exploit the semantic characteristics of different labels, which are subsequently used for confusing and misleading the target model to learn the embedded trigger. We finally explore the mechanism of backdoor attacks on image retrieval in the hash space. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmark datasets verify that BadHash can generate imperceptible poisoned samples with strong attack ability and transferability over state-of-the-art deep hashing schemes. © 2022, CC BY.

The rapid development of photo-realistic face generation methods has raised significant concerns in society and academia, highlighting the urgent need for robust and generalizable face forgery detection (FFD) techniques. Although existing approaches mainly capture face forgery patterns using image modality, other modalities like fine-grained noises and texts are not fully explored, which limits the generalization capability of the model. In addition, most FFD methods tend to identify facial images generated by GAN, but struggle to detect unseen diffusion-synthesized ones. To address the limitations, we aim to leverage the cutting-edge foundation model, contrastive language-image pre-training (CLIP), to achieve generalizable diffusion face forgery detection (DFFD). In this paper, we propose a novel multi-modal fine-grained CLIP (MFCLIP) model, which mines comprehensive and fine-grained forgery traces across image-noise modalities via language-guided face forgery representation learning, to facilitate the advancement of DFFD. Specifically, we devise a fine-grained language encoder (FLE) that extracts fine global language features from hierarchical text prompts. We design a multi-modal vision encoder (MVE) to capture global image forgery embeddings as well as fine-grained noise forgery patterns extracted from the richest patch, and integrate them to mine general visual forgery traces. Moreover, we build an innovative plug-and-play sample pair attention (SPA) method to emphasize relevant negative pairs and suppress irrelevant ones, allowing cross-modality sample pairs to conduct more flexible alignment. Extensive experiments and visualizations show that our model outperforms the state of the arts on different settings like cross-generator, cross-forgery, and cross-dataset evaluations. Cross-Language Binary-Source Code Matching with Intermediate Representations

Binary-source code matching plays an important role in many security and software engineering related tasks such as malware detection, reverse engineering and vulnerability assessment. Currently, several approaches have been proposed for binary-source code matching by jointly learning the embeddings of binary code and source code in a common vector space. Despite much effort, existing approaches target on matching the binary code and source code written in a single programming language. However, in practice, software applications are often written in different programming languages to cater for different requirements and computing platforms. Matching binary and source code across programming languages introduces additional challenges when maintaining multi-language and multi-platform applications. To this end, this paper formulates the problem of cross-language binary-source code matching, and develops a new dataset for this new problem. We present a novel approach XLIR, which is a Transformer-based neural network by learning the intermediate representations for both binary and source code. To validate the effectiveness of XLIR, comprehensive experiments are conducted on two tasks of cross-language binary-source code matching, and cross-language source-source code matching, on top of our curated dataset. Experimental results and analysis show that our proposed XLIR with intermediate representations significantly outperforms other state-of-the-art models in both of the two tasks. Identifying Users Transferring between Transportation Modes: A Stable Matching Approach

Travel data containing personal identification information needs to be anonymized before being shared and analyzed for privacy considerations. In a multi-modal transport system with different operators covering one segment of the market and collecting their own customers’ travel data, it is typically difficult to identify the trajectory of the same traveler across these different modes (e.g. shared bikes, metro, bus). This has been the main hurdle to the understanding of complete trip chains and door-to-door travel patterns. To address this challenge, this paper develops TBLink, a method to match individual travelers between different modes. The underlying idea is that if a traveler makes a transfer, the spatial-temporal signatures of the previous and next trips will be similar and must satisfy certain conditions. When this pattern happens for two travelers in the two datasets repeatedly, we can infer that the two travelers are actually the same person. Traveler matching is regarded as a stable matching problem and the Gale-Shapley algorithm is used to solve the problem. TBLink is demonstrated using metro and bus trip data from Chengdu city between January and March 2021. Results show that the precision, recall, and recovery rate of user matching are 80.81%, 92.77%, and 10.56% respectively, and the matching is more reliable as the dataset increases. EPL: Empirical Prototype Learning for Deep Face Recognition

Prototype learning is widely used in face recognition, which takes the row vectors of coefficient matrix in the last linear layer of the feature extraction model as the prototypes for each class. When the prototypes are updated using the facial sample feature gradients in the model training, they are prone to being pulled away from the class center by the hard samples, resulting in decreased overall model performance. In this paper, we explicitly define prototypes as the expectations of sample features in each class and design the empirical prototypes using the existing samples in the dataset. We then devise a strategy to adaptively update these empirical prototypes during the model training based on the similarity between the sample features and the empirical prototypes. Furthermore, we propose an empirical prototype learning (EPL) method, which utilizes an adaptive margin parameter with respect to sample features. EPL assigns larger margins to the normal samples and smaller margins to the hard samples, allowing the learned empirical prototypes to better reflect the class center dominated by the normal samples and finally pull the hard samples towards the empirical prototypes through the learning. In the medical realm, the pivotal role of pathological Whole Slide Images (WSIs) in detecting cancer, tracking disease progression, and evaluating treatment efficacy is indisputable. Nevertheless, the identification and quantification of lesion areas in these gigapixel WSIs present a significant challenge due to their substantial size and the intricate details of lesions. To address these issues, we developed a novel multi-resolution and multi-scale cross fusion network (M 2 CF-Net), adept at managing large-scale pathological WSIs and capturing both fine details and context. Our model particularly focuses on segmenting local lymphocyte infiltration lesions in pathological WSIs of patients diagnosed with primary Sjogren's syndrome. By employing a patch-based training approach and combining interconnected elements via a multi-scale fusion technique, we enhance our model's capacity to detect and analyze structures and features in minor salivary gland section WSIs. Extensive experiments and ablation studies conducted on real-world clinical datasets affirm our model's superior accuracy in identifying lymphocyte-infiltrated regions over state-of-the-art models, with a performance improvement of up to 4.32% in terms of the Dice Similarity Coefficient.

Multi-scale Dynamic and Hierarchical Relationship Modeling for Facial Action Units Recognition

Human facial action units (AUs) are mutually related in a hierarchical manner, as not only they are associated with each other in both spatial and temporal domains but also AUs located in the same/close facial regions show stronger relationships than those of different facial regions. While none of existing approach thoroughly model such hierarchical inter-dependencies among AUs, this paper proposes to comprehensively model multi-scale AU-related dynamic and hierarchical spatio-temporal relationship among AUs for their occurrences recognition. Specifically, we first propose a novel multi-scale temporal differencing network with an adaptive weighting block to explicitly capture facial dynamics across frames at different spatial scales, which specifically considers the heterogeneity of range and magnitude in different AUs’ activation. Then, a two-stage strategy is introduced to hierarchically model the relationship among AUs based on their spatial distribution (i.e., local and cross-region AU relationship modelling). Experimental results achieved on BP4D and DISFA show that our approach is the new state-of-the-art in the field of AU occurrence recognition. A Uniform Representation Model for Oct-Based Fingerprint Presentation Attack Detection and Reconstruction

The technology of optical coherence tomography (OCT) to fingerprint imaging opens up a new research potential for fingerprint recognition owing to its ability to capture depth information of the skin layers. Developing robust and high security Automated Fingerprint Recognition systems (AFRSs) are possible if the depth information can be fully utilized. However, in existing studies, Presentation Attack Detection (PAD) and subsurface fingerprint reconstruction based on depth information are treated as two independent branches, resulting in high computation and complexity of AFRS building. Thus, this paper proposes a uniform representation model for OCT-based fingerprint PAD and subsurface fingerprint reconstruction. Firstly, we design a novel semantic segmentation network which only trained by real finger slices of OCT-based fingerprints to extract multiple subsurface structures from those slices (also known as B-scans). The latent codes derived from the network are directly used to effectively detect the PA since they contain abundant subsurface biological information, which is independent with PA materials and has strong robustness for unknown PAs. Meanwhile, the segmented subsurface structures are adopted to reconstruct multiple subsurface 2D fingerprints. Recognition can be easily achieved by using existing mature technologies based on traditional 2D fingerprints. Extensive experiments are carried on our own established database, which is the largest public OCT-based fingerprint database with 2449 volumes. In PAD task, our method can improve 0.33% Acc from the state-of-the-art method. For reconstruction performance, our method achieves the best performance with 0.834 mean Intersection of Union (mIOU) and 0.937 Pixel Accuracy (PA). By comparing with the recognition performance on surface 2D fingerprints (e.g. commercial and high resolution), the effectiveness of our proposed method on high quality subsurface fingerprint reconstruction is further proved. © 2023, The
