Document retrieval plays an essential role in many real-world applications especially when the data storage is outsourced. Due to the great advantages offered by cloud computing, clients tend to outsource their personal data to remote servers maintained by external service providers. This raises serious privacy concerns about outsourced data because such providers are usually considered untrusted entities. The majority of previous schemes of document similarity search share the same limitation: they focus mainly on static collections. Dynamic searchable schemes (DSE) allow adding or removing documents at the expense of more leakage than static schemes. To thwart certain attacks, DSE schemes should support forward privacy property, which ensures that newly added documents cannot be related to previously issued search queries. We design and implement dynamic secure similarity search schemes with forward privacy for textual documents utilizing simhash method for hamming similarity. Our scheme provides an efficient search time and a sufficient level of privacy. To show the practicality of our proposed scheme, we performed excremental results with large document collections.

Deep Neural Networks (DNN) have achieved extraordinary success in many visual recognition tasks. Visual Transformer (ViT), which is derived from Natural Language Processing (NLP), has achieved state-of-the-art (SOTA) results on many tasks due to its capability of capturing long-range dependencies in visual data. However, Existing ViT models are challenging to deploy on devices due to their massive computational consumption, huge memory overhead, and reliance on large datasets. In this work, we address these issues by replacing some computationally expensive and memory-intensive modules in ViT with standard Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) modules. Firstly, we propose an efficient Self-Attention module called SDG-Attention (SDGA) with linear space and time complexity, and an economical FeedForward Network (FFN) composed of group convolution and shuffle channel (SFFN). Then, we develop a lightweight CNN model with SDGA and SFFN, SDGFormer, which embraces several priors of ViT and is LayerNorm-Free. We evaluate SDGFormer on ImageNet-1K and Mini-ImageNet, and the SDGFormer-S achieves a comparable top-1 accuracy of 77.6% on ImageNet-1K with 9.1M parameters and 1.6 GFlops regimes. Moreover, our SDGFormer-T achieves SOTA performance on Mini-ImageNet with 83.3% accuracy, demonstrating good generalization on small datasets without extra data.

ImplantFormer: Vision Transformer based Implant Position Regression Using Dental CBCT data

Implant prosthesis is the most appropriate treatment for dentition defect or dentition loss, which usually involves a surgical guide design process to decide the implant position. However, such design heavily relies on the subjective experiences of dentists. In this paper, a transformer-based Implant Position Regression Network, ImplantFormer, is proposed to automatically predict the implant position based on the oral CBCT data. We creatively propose to predict the implant position using the 2D axial view of the tooth crown area and fit a centerline of the implant to obtain the actual implant position at the tooth root. Convolutional stem and decoder are designed to coarsely extract image features before the operation of patch embedding and integrate multi-level feature maps for robust prediction, respectively. As both long-range relationship and local features are involved, our approach can better represent global information and achieves better location performance. Extensive experiments on a dental implant dataset through five-fold cross-validation demonstrated that the proposed ImplantFormer achieves superior performance than existing methods. Prototype-based clustering algorithms have garnered considerable attention in the field of machine learning due to their efficiency and interpretability. Nonetheless, these algorithms often face performance degradation when confronted with high-dimensional or non-ellipsoidal data distributions. To surmount these challenges, this study introduces a novel clustering approach, dubbed Clustering with Adaptive Graph learning and Spectral Rotation (CAGSR). In CAGSR, the imposed spectral rotation operation mitigates the discrepancy between the membership matrix, which adheres to the notion of fuzzy clustering, and the spectral representations derived from an adaptive graph rather than a predefined one. This enables the generation of a comprehensive representation of the data across multiple spaces. Furthermore, the clustering and graph learning tasks are jointly optimized in a projected subspace, which can effectively reduce the adverse impact caused by irrelevant features in the original space. The proposed method seamlessly integrates fuzzy clustering, graph structure learning, and spectral rotation into a unified model, facilitating the detection of intrinsic structures. Experimental evaluations conducted on benchmark data sets substantiate the effectiveness of CAGSR when compared to related clustering approaches.

Sample hardness based gradient loss for long-tailed cervical cell detection

Due to the difficulty of cancer samples collection and annotation, cervical cancer datasets usually exhibit a long-tailed data distribution. When training a detector to detect the cancer cells in a WSI (Whole Slice Image) image captured from the TCT (Thinprep Cytology Test) specimen, head categories (e.g. normal cells and inflammatory cells) typically have a much larger number of samples than tail categories (e.g. cancer cells). Most existing state-of-the-art long-tailed learning methods in object detection focus on category distribution statistics to solve the problem in the long-tailed scenario, without considering the "hardness" of each sample. To address this problem, in this work we propose a Grad-Libra Loss that leverages the gradients to dynamically calibrate the degree of hardness of each sample for different categories, and re-balance the gradients of positive and negative samples. Our loss can thus help the detector to put more emphasis on those hard samples in both head and tail categories. Extensive experiments on a long-tailed TCT WSI image dataset show that the mainstream detectors, e.g. RepPoints, FCOS, ATSS, YOLOF, etc. trained using our proposed Gradient-Libra Loss, achieved much higher (7.8%) mAP than that trained using cross-entropy classification loss. Recently, cloud radio access network (C-RAN) with caching as a service (CaaS) was proposed to merge the functionalities of communication, computing, and caching (CCC) together. In this paper, we dissect the interactions of CCC in C-RAN with CaaS from two dimensions: physical resource dimension and time dimension. In the physical resource dimension, we identify how to segment the baseband unit (BBU) pool resources (i.e., computation and storage) into different types of virtual machines (VMs). In the time dimension, we address how the long-term resource segmentation in the BBU pool impacts on the short-term transmit beamforming at the remote radio heads. We formulate the problem as a stochastic mixed-integer nonlinear programming (SMINLP) to minimize the system cost, including the server cost, VM cost and wireless transmission cost. After a series of approximation, including sample average approximation, successive convex approximation, and semidefinite relaxation, the SMINLP is approximated as a global consensus problem. The alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is utilized to obtain the solution in a parallel fashion. Simulation results verify the convergence of our proposed algorithm, and also confirm that the proposed scheme is more cost-saving than that without considering the integration of CCC. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Multi-behavioral recommender systems have emerged as a solution to address data sparsity and cold-start issues by incorporating auxiliary behaviors alongside target behaviors. However, existing models struggle to accurately capture varying user preferences across different behaviors and fail to account for diverse item preferences within behaviors. Various user preference factors (such as price or quality) entangled in the behavior may lead to sub-optimization problems. Furthermore, these models overlook the personalized nature of user behavioral preferences by employing uniform transformation networks for all users and items. To tackle these challenges, we propose the Disentangled Cascaded Graph Convolutional Network (Disen-CGCN), a novel multi-behavior recommendation model. Disen-CGCN employs disentangled representation techniques to effectively separate factors within user and item representations, ensuring their independence. In addition, it incorporates a multi-behavioral meta-network, enabling personalized feature transformation across user and item behaviors. Furthermore, an attention mechanism captures user preferences for different item factors within each behavior. By leveraging attention weights, we aggregate user and item embeddings separately for each behavior, computing preference scores that predict overall user preferences for items. Our evaluation of benchmark datasets demonstrates the superiority of Disen-CGCN over state-of-the-art models, showcasing an average performance improvement of 7.07% and 9.00% on respective datasets. These results highlight Disen-CGCN’s ability to effectively leverage multi-behavioral data, leading to more accurate recommendations.

Understanding the Long-Distance Travel Mobility of Passengers Based on big Railway data: Travel Network and Motif Perspectives

With the booming construction of new railway lines and stations in China, the number of railway passengers is increasing. The large railway population shows certain mobility characteristics that we are interested in clarifying. Based on the theory of complex networks, this paper proposes a novel method to identify travel patterns from big railway data, which associates travel motifs with travel networks. This paper derives some meaningful results from the data analysis of more than three million railway travel records of a city in China. These results illustrate that higher motif complexity leads to a narrower travel radius for motif-based subnets. The higher the stability of the travel sequence is, the shorter the average length of the sequence. Four types of travel patterns are identified and classified by analyzing the motif of travel activities, i.e., labor, tourism, surrounding and commuting. The methodology and findings presented in this paper contribute to a better understanding of the long-distance travel mobility of railway passengers. The method designed in this paper can also be used to analyze traffic data from airlines, buses, subways, etc. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Depressive disorders to some extent erode the mental and physical health of many individuals. There is a pressing need for new technologies to enhance the diagnosis as well as treatment of depression, which currently relies heavily on subjective reports and lacks precise classification for its subtypes. Anxiety-type depression is a subtype of depression that is clinically challenging to distinguish from non-anxiety-type depression. Statistical data indicates anxiety-type depression has a higher prevalence among university students, poses greater risks, and has more possibility of leading to suicidal tendencies. Research integrating neuroimaging with artificial intelligence for assisted diagnosis and treatment of anxiety-type depression holds significant clinical importance. This study collected fNIRS data from depression patients and evaluated classification performance using a deep learning measure based on the CNN framework, highlighting the extraction of the most significant feature associated with anxiety-type depression deficits. This work provides a valuable lens to understand the complexities of anxiety-type depression and design human-computer interaction treatment methods. Drawing on research in psychology and cognitive science, and recent advancements in cognitive intervention studies, we illustrate the demands of assisted diagnosis, requiring a high degree of intelligent treatment of depression. We propose addressing these demands by designing and integrating a social-assistive chatbot that employs CBT for treating anxiety-type depression into a comprehensive agent system.
