Aerospace laminated composite structures often require thickness variations along one or more directions in order to satisfy weight and aerodynamic efficiency requirements. Thickness variation is achieved by introducing dropped plies at appropriate locations. However, the influence mechanism of the ply drop location has not been adequately elucidated. In this work, the effect of ply drop location on the mechanical properties of tapered laminates has been investigated by experiment and simulation. Three different ply-drop configurations of tapered laminates were subjected to quasi-static tensile tests. The main failure modes are delamination and ply damage. Delamination can significantly reduce the load-bearing capacity of the structure. The simulation results are in good agreement with the test results in terms of failure load, load–displacement response, and delamination regions. The results demonstrate that the ply drop location affects the order of occurrence of the main failure modes of tapered laminates and the propagation path of ply damage cracks, thereby influencing their mechanical properties. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Passband-Baseband Joint Equalization for Bio-Inspired Phase-Modulated Communication in Underwater IoT Networks

The Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT) has emerged as a promising paradigm for marine applications, yet faces significant challenges in achieving secure and reliable network communications. In IoUT networks, underwater acoustic communication struggles to maintain both covert operation and efficient data transmission, which are crucial for sensitive monitoring and surveillance applications. Bio-inspired communication schemes that mimic dolphin whistles offer an innovative solution for IoUT networks by embedding information within natural marine sounds, enhancing both communication security and network connectivity. However, in phase-modulated bionic camouflage communication, the multi-path effects of the underwater acoustic channel cause overlapping of multiple whistles at the receiver, severely degrading IoUT network performance and limiting practical applications. To address these challenges in IoUT networks, we propose a novel joint passband-baseband equalization method for bio-inspired phase-modulated communication. The receiver architecture combines an improved learning rate-fast transversal RLS (LR-FTRLS) equalizer for channel shortening in the passband with a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) in the baseband, specifically optimized for underwater IoT scenarios. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme has been verified through both shallow and deep-sea simulations. Sea experiment further demonstrate the system’s practical viability, achieving 300 bps with a bit error rate below 10^-3 at 9 km range, demonstrating its effectiveness for high-rate covert underwater communication. This work represents a significant advancement in underwater IoT networks, offering enhanced security, improved reliability, and increased data transmission capabilities for various marine IoT applications including environmental monitoring, underwater surveillance, and marine resource exploration. © 2014 IEEE.

Advertising attribution is an effective method to measure the effect of various advertisements in the era of Internet advertising. It enables scientific tracking back and refined operation of advertising by quantitatively evaluating the contribution of different advertising channels to reach the target. It is challenging to predict conversion results based on users' journey data accurately, reflect the impact of ads on user conversions, and appropriately assign attribution values to advertising channels. To achieve the above objectives, we propose an advertising attribution method based on a temporal convolutional network with an attention mechanism (Att-TCN). By mining the hidden information in time and attribution channels using the attention mechanism, our proposed method can improve the accuracy of conversion prediction and thus more rationally assign attribution values across channels. Experimental validation on a real dataset obtained from an operational commercial advertising monitoring company shows that our proposed attribution method has better accuracy than other state-of-the-art attribution methods and gives an open-ended approach to attribution value assignment. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, we proposed a novel approach, called LDS-IVD, to model the entity interaction vulnerabilities in Large Distributed system (LDS) which results from the absence of necessary security mechanisms. LDS-IVD constructs a general interaction security mechanism description language, named with IS-LAN. By analyzing the key resources in LDS with the finite state machine, IS-LAN provides the capability of discovering and validating the entity interaction vulnerabilities. In this way, IDS-IVD can find out the negative influence on the resource confidentiality, integrity and availability incurred by the deficiency of security mechanisms, and can detect the interaction vulnerabilities along with the attack patterns. © 2010 IEEE.

Adaptive Quadratic Programming Approach for Inverse Kinematics in Free-Flying Space Robots

This paper presents a novel whole-body inverse kinematics (IK) control framework for free-flying space robots (FFSRs) to address the challenges of tracking and capturing non-cooperative targets in orbit. By formulating the IK problem as a quadratic programming (QP) optimization, the proposed method integrates multiple objectives, including precise end-effector velocity tracking, manipulability maximization, and base reaction minimization, within a unified framework. The algorithm introduces adaptive weighting mechanisms that dynamically balance precision, stability, and redundancy utilization based on real-time tracking errors and task demands. In simulations involving a 10-DOF mobile manipulator, the proposed method maintains end-effector positional errors below 0.03 m at angular velocitiy up to 1 rad/s, and under 0.05 m at linear target speeds up to 1 m/s. Comparative analyses show that the proposed QP solver achieves better computational efficiency and convergence characteristics. Hardware experiments with an 8-DOF mobile manipulator further verify real-time feasibility, showing final pose errors under 0.01 m in close-range capture. These results demonstrate the method’s effectiveness for fault satellite capture and on-orbit maintenance, providing a viable solution for servicing malfunctioning satellites and ensuring the sustainability of space assets. © 2025, The Authors. Adequate Environment for conducting security experiments and test under controlled, safe, repeatable and as-realistic-as-possible conditions, are a key element for the research and development of adequate security solutions and the training of security personnel and researchers. In this paper, a new large-scale network experimental environment for high-risk security research was put forward. The main idea was using isolated computing clusters to obtain high levels of scale, manageability and safety by heavily leveraging virtualization technology, separating experiment and control network and multilayer sanitization. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

This study focuses on direct position determination (DPD) of coherently distributed (CD) sources using joint angle and time delay (JATD) information measured from multiple base stations (BSs). Signal scattering phenomena near the source always degrade the performance of DPD approaches based on a point source model. To address this issue, a DPD algorithm based on canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) under a CD source scenario is proposed. First, the formulation of the CD source localization problem is presented. By extracting the available frequency points from the received data, a corresponding inverse discrete Fourier transform matrix, together with the signal matrix and critical position information matrix, forms a CPD model. Subsequently, the trilinear alternating least squares (TALS) technique is applied to obtain the estimated information matrix. Finally, the associated DPD cost function is constructed, and the source position is determined through a grid search. Performance analysis and numerical simulations demonstrate that our proposed algorithm significantly reduces computational complexity while maintaining excellent localization performance compared with the popular JATD-MUSIC algorithm. Additionally, this study provides a detailed derivation of the Cramér-Rao lower bound for unknown CD sources in the DPD scenario.

Boot kit, as an innovative root kit technology, transfer its storage location from the file system to the hardware store, and activates itself while or even before the operating system kernel is loaded. Therefore, boot kit can tamper the operating system and control the whole computer system. Compared to classic malware, it achieves a more powerful capability of hiding and controlling. This paper takes an overview of existing various boot kit technologies and summarizes their technical characteristics. This opens a door to the malware defenders for preventing the computer systems from boot kit. © 2011 IEEE.

An integration method based on a novel combined flow for aerodynamic configuration of strutjet engine

In this paper a novel design method of aerodynamic configuration is proposed to integrate forebody,strut and inlet for strutjet engine,and a model at design point of Mach number6 is generated to investigate the aerodynamic performance by both simulations and *** basic flow field employed by proposed method is a combined flow named IBB,which is combined by Internal Conical Flow A(ICFA),truncated Busemann flow I(BI)for external section,and truncated Busemann flow II(BII)for internal *** model configuration is generated by streamline tracing method from basic flow field,in which the forebody section is traced from ICFA and BI flows,and the inlet as well as strut section is traced from BII *** simulations in Mach number 4,5,and 6 demonstrate uniform starting flow fields with relatively high total pressure recovery,which agree well with experiments in wind ***,in low Mach number cases,this inlet could start at Mach number 3 while it is unstarted at Mach number 2.7;in high Mach number cases,a uniform flow could still exist in Mach number 6.5 while a relatively strong shock wave boundary layer interaction is found in cowl area of Mach number 7 case,indicating the inlet designed by proposed method works in a relatively wide Mach number range.
