Early diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) can inhibit the progression and improve femoral head preservation. The radiograph difference between early ONFH and healthy ones is not apparent to the naked eye. It is also hard to produce a large dataset to train the classification model. In this paper, we propose Asymmetric-Sensitive Transformer (AsT) to capture the uneven development of the bilateral femoral head to enable robust ONFH detection. Our ONFH detection is realized using the self-attention mechanism to femoral head regions while conferring sensitivity to the uneven development by the attention-shared transformer. The real-world experiment studies show that AsT achieves the best performance of AUC 0.9313 in the early diagnosis of ONFH and can find out misdiagnosis cases firmly. Elastic scaling in response to changes on demand is a main benefit of serverless computing. When bursty workloads arrive, a serverless platform launches many new containers and initializes function environments (known as cold starts), which incurs significant startup latency. To reduce cold starts, platforms usually pause a container after it serves a request, and reuse this container for subsequent requests. However, this reuse strategy cannot efficiently reduce cold starts because the schedulers are agnostic of container lifecycle. For example, it may ignore soon available containers or evict soon needed containers. We propose a container lifecycle-aware scheduling strategy for serverless computing, CAS. The key idea is to control distribution of requests and determine creation or eviction of containers according to different lifecycle phases of containers. We implement a prototype of CAS on OpenWhisk. Our evaluation shows that CAS reduces 81% cold starts and therefore brings a 63% reduction at 95th percentile latency compared with native scheduling strategy in OpenWhisk when there is worker contention between workloads, and does not add significant performance overhead. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

This paper presents a novel model protection paradigm Model Locking that locks the performance of a finetuned model on private data to make it unusable or unextractable without the right key. Specifically, we proposed a diffusion-based framework dubbed ModelLock that explores text-guided image editing to transform the private finetuning data into unique styles or blend new objects into the background. A model finetuned on this edited dataset will be locked and can only be unlocked by the key prompt, i.e., the same text prompt used to edit the data. We conduct extensive experiments on both image classification and segmentation tasks and show that 1) ModelLock can effectively lock finetuned models without significantly reducing their unlocked performance, and more importantly, 2) the locked model cannot be easily unlocked without knowing both the key prompt and the diffusion model. Our work opens up a new direction for intellectual property protection of private models. © 2024 ACM.

Metapath-based heterogeneous graph models (MHGM) show excellent performance in learning semantic and structural information in heterogeneous graphs. Metapath matching is an essential processing step in MHGM to find all metapath instances, bringing significant overhead compared to the total model execution time. Even worse, in dynamic heterogeneous graphs, metapath instances require to be rematched while graph updated. In this paper, we observe that only a small fraction of metapath instances change and propose GraphMetaP, an efficient incremental metapath maintenance method in order to eliminate the matching overhead in dynamic heterogeneous graphs. GraphMetaP introduces a novel format for metapath instances to capture the dependencies among the metapath instances. The format incrementally maintains metapath instances based on the graph updates to avoide the rematching metapath overhead for the updated graph. Furthermore, GraphMetaP uses the fold way to simplify the format in order to recover all metapath instances faster. Experiments show that GraphMetaP enables efficient maintenance of metapath instances on dynamic heterogeneous graphs and outperforms 172.4X on average compared to the matching metapath method.

Automatically generating webpage code from webpage designs can significantly reduce the workload of front-end developers, and recent Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have shown promising potential in this area. However, our investigation reveals that most existing MLLMs are constrained by the absence of high-quality, large-scale, real-world datasets, resulting in inadequate performance in automated webpage code generation. To fill this gap, this paper introduces WebCode2M, a new dataset comprising 2.56 million instances, each containing a design image along with the corresponding webpage code and layout details. Sourced from real-world web resources, WebCode2M offers a rich and valuable dataset for webpage code generation across a variety of applications. The dataset quality is ensured by a scoring model that filters out instances with aesthetic deficiencies or other incomplete elements. To validate the effectiveness of WebCode2M, we introduce a baseline model based on the Vision Transformer (ViT), named WebCoder, and establish a benchmark for fair comparison. Additionally, we introduce a new metric, TreeBLEU, to measure the structural hierarchy recall. The benchmarking results demonstrate that our dataset significantly improves the ability of MLLMs to generate code from webpage designs, confirming its effectiveness and usability for future applications in front-end design tools. Finally, we highlight several practical challenges introduced by our dataset, calling for further research. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Efficient distributed algorithms for holistic aggregation functions on random regular graphs

In this paper, we propose efficient distributed algorithms for three holistic aggregation functions on random regular graphs that are good candidates for network topology in next-generation data *** three holistic aggregation functions include SELECTION（select the k-th largest or smallest element）,DISTINCT（query the count of distinct elements）, MODE（query the most frequent element）. We design three basic techniques — Pre-order Network Partition, Pairwise-independent Random Walk, and Random Permutation Delivery, and devise the algorithms based on the techniques. The round complexity of the distributed SELECTION is Θ（log N） which meets the lower bound where N is the number of nodes and each node holds a numeric element. The round complexity of the distributed DISTINCT and MODE algorithms are O（log3N/log log N） and O（log2N log log N） respectively. All of our results break the lower bounds obtained on general graphs and our distributed algorithms are all based on the CON GE S T model, which restricts each node to send only O（log N） bits on each edge in one round under synchronous communications.

FusionANNS: An Efficient CPU/GPU Cooperative Processing Architecture for Billion-scale Approximate Nearest Neighbor Search

Approximate nearest neighbor search (ANNS) has emerged as a crucial component of database and AI infrastructure Ever-increasing vector datasets pose significant challenges in terms of performance, cost, and accuracy for ANNS services None of modern ANNS systems can address these issues simultaneously. We present FusionANNS, a high-throughput, low-latency cost-efficient, and high-accuracy ANNS system for billion scale datasets using SSDs and only one entry-level GPU The key idea of FusionANNS lies in CPU/GPU collabo rative filtering and re-ranking mechanisms, which signifi cantly reduce I/O operations across CPUs, GPU, and SSDs to break through the I/O performance bottleneck. Specifically we propose three novel designs: (1) multi-tiered indexing to avoid data swapping between CPUs and GPU, (2) heuristic re-ranking to eliminate unnecessary I/Os and computations while guaranteeing high accuracy, and (3) redundant-aware I/O deduplication to further improve I/O efficiency. We imple ment FusionANNS and compare it with the state-of-the-art SSD-based ANNS system–SPANN and GPU-accelerated in memory ANNS system–RUMMY. Experimental results show that FusionANNS achieves 1) 9.4-13.1× higher query per second (QPS) and 5.7-8.8× higher cost efficiency compared with SPANN;2) and 2-4.9× higher QPS and 2.3-6.8× higher cost efficiency compared with RUMMY, while guaranteeing low latency and high accuracy.
