Due to pedestrian traffic and frequent lane changes, rapid acceleration and deceleration of vehicles often occur, resulting in the traffic jerk phenomenon. This issue is particularly pronounced in mixed fleets of connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) and human-driven vehicles (HDVs), posing significant safety hazards. To address this, we propose a heterogeneous lattice model incorporating delayed control to mitigate traffic jerk in environments involving both CAVs and HDVs. Linear stability analysis reveals that traffic jerk adversely affects the stability of heterogeneous vehicles, whereas delayed control mitigates this negative impact. Additionally, nonlinear analysis is conducted to derive the equation related to delayed control aimed at countering traffic jerk. Finally, through simulations examining density, limit cycles, and spectral analysis in scenarios involving CAVs and HDVs, it is demonstrated that delayed control effectively resists the detrimental effects of traffic jerk on heterogeneous vehicles.

To avoid data loss, data centers adopt disk failure prediction (DFP) technology to raise warnings ahead of actual disk failures, and process the warnings in the order they are raised, i.e., a first-in-first-out (FIFO) warning order. The FIFO-guided warning order can process warnings timely when disk failures are rare in data centers. With the growing scale of data centers, the increasing number of disk failures leads to a complex situation that multiple warnings are raised simultaneously, where the FIFO-guided warning order neither processes warnings timely, nor manages warnings properly due to lack of the priority of warnings. Thus, a real-time and finer-grained priority guidance for warning order management is an urgent need. To this end, we turn our attention to the failures since each warning corresponds to a fail event. The key insight is that the interdependence of failures, i.e., the order failure occurred, indicates the order of warning processing. With an accurate failure order, data centers can decrease the probability of data loss and the downtime of latency-sensitive applications by processing urgent warnings in advance. In this paper, we predict the failure order with a LambdaMART model, which is a state-of-the-art ranking algorithm in information retrieval. To avoid overly concerning on the correctness of high-rank warnings in information retrieval, we design a symmetric metric to evaluate the prediction evaluation of failure order. Experiment on a public dataset, provided by the Backblaze company, shows that our model outperforms the FIFO order and the order from previous DFP models. © 2019 IEEE.

In traditional database systems, data anonymization has been extensively studied, it provides an effective solution for data privacy preservation, and multidimensional anonymization scheme among them is widely used. However, without delicate parameter settings, these technologies may cause uncontrollable information loss and decrease the accuracy of data analytic tasks. Furthermore, crowdsourcing data is usually huge in amount and must be distributed stored in clouds, which makes the conventional data anonymization technologies not applicable. In this paper, we propose a framework that uses MapReduce to anonymize large-scale data before disseminating them to human workers. In order to guarantee the number and distribution of data records to be similar in all nodes, our framework first redistributes the original data to all participating nodes. Then a heuristic two-phase anonymization schema, which can be seamlessly integrated into the framework, is proposed. Experimental results show that with the same objective of privacy, our approach is scalable for large-scale data and can improve the average accuracy of human worker's analytic tasks. © 2019 IEEE.

Now, it is popular for people to share their feelings, activities tagged with geography and temporal information in Online Social Networks (OSNs). The spatial and temporal interactions occurred in OSNs contain a wealth of information to indicate friendship between persons. Existing researches generally focused on single dimension: spatial or temporal dimension. The simplified model only works in limited scenarios. Here, we aim to understand the probability of friendship and the place and time of interactions. First, spatial similarity of interactions is defined as a vector of places where persons checked in. Second, we employ exponential functions to characterize the change of strength of interactions as time goes on. Finally, a unified probability model to predict friendship between two persons is given. The model contains two sub-models based on spatial similarity and temporal similarity respectively. The experimental results on four data sets including spatial data sets (Gowalla and Weeplaces) and temporal data sets (Higgs Twitter data set, High school Call data set) show that our model works as expected. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2019.

This article introduces the Tenth Dialog system technology Challenge (DSTC-10). This edition of the DSTC focuses on applying end-to-end dialog technologies for five distinct tasks in dialog systems, namely 1. Incorporation of Meme images into open domain dialogs, 2. Knowledge-grounded Task-oriented Dialogue Modeling on Spoken Conversations, 3. Situated Interactive Multimodal dialogs, 4. Reasoning for Audio Visual Scene-Aware Dialog, and 5. Automatic Evaluation and Moderation of Open-domainDialogue systems. This article describes the task definition, provided datasets, baselines, and evaluation setup for each track. We also summarize the results of the submitted systems to highlight the general trends of the state-of-the-art technologies for the tasks. © 2023 The Authors.

Intelligent vehicles, often parked for long periods, are ideally suited to serve as computational nodes to expand the Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) infrastructure, with containerization significantly enhancing the system's load balancing, self-healing, resource isolation, and security. However, fluctuations in task demand and frequent container image downloads during peak hours create high loads on containerized nodes, as multiple mobile devices offload tasks simultaneously, leading to significant processing delays. Many existing studies make the simplified assumption of predefined patterns of task arrivals, which overlooks this issue and makes suboptimal decisions. In this paper, we consider a Parked Vehicles (PVs)-extended MEC scenario, where multiple devices request services on PVs functioning as edge servers, all controlled by a central base station. Task arrivals follow observed patterns based on long-term trends, such as peak and off-peak periods, resembling realistic arrival patterns rather than predefined ones. To optimize task offloading by identifying these patterns, we propose the Sequence-Aware Task Scheduling (SATS) algorithm, which is a policy gradient-based deep reinforcement learning approach that integrates Transformer and LSTM architectures to capture patterns in time-series task arrivals and relationships between nodes in a collaborative and containerized environment, thereby enhancing the efficiency of online task scheduling. The primary objective of SATS is to optimize the task offloading policy and minimize delay and energy consumption for all devices and PVs. Extensive numerical comparisons against baselines demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of our algorithm. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

This paper studies the automatic optimization of data placement parameters for the inter-job write once read many (WORM) scenario where data is first materialized to storage by a producer job, and then accessed for many times by one or more consumer jobs. Such scenario is ubiquitous in big data analytics applications but existing big data auto-tuning techniques are often focused on single job performance. To address the shortcomings in existing works, this paper investigates data placement parameters regarding blocking, partitioning and replication and models the trade-offs caused by different configurations of these parameters through a producer-consumer model. We then present a novel cross-layer solution, WATSON, which can automatically predict future workloads’ data access patterns and tune data placement parameters accordingly to optimize the performance for an inter-job WORM scenario. WATSON can achieve up to eight times performance speedup on various analytics workloads. © 2020 36th International Conference on Massive Storage systems and technology, MSST 2020. This study introduces the Quantum-Train Quantum Fast Weight Programmer (QT-QFWP) framework, enabling efficient and scalable programming of variational quantum circuits (VQCs) through quantum-driven parameter updates for the classical slow programmer controlling the fast programmer VQC. By optimizing quantum and classical parameter management, QT-QFWP significantly reduces parameters (by 70–90%) compared to Quantum Long Short-Term Memory (QLSTM) and Quantum Fast Weight Programmer (QFWP) while maintaining accuracy. Benchmarking on time-series tasks—including Damped Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM), NARMA5, and Simulated Gravitational Waves (GW)—demonstrates superior efficiency and predictive accuracy. QT-QFWP is particularly advantageous for near-term quantum systems, addressing qubit and gate fidelity constraints, enhancing VQC deployment in time-sensitive applications, and expanding quantum computing’s role in machine learning.

Logistics vehicle and cargo matching problem is a typical combination optimization problem, which has important theoretical and application value in the field of logistics distribution. The proved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is one of the most extensive optimization methods studied in recent years, with excellent global search ability and convergence speed. Based on the IPSO algorithm, this paper proposes an effective IPSO algorithm model for the matching problem of logistics vehicles and goods, and conducts the corresponding comparative experiment. The final experimental results show that the algorithm has good results in practical application and can provide a feasible optimization method for solving the problem of logistics vehicles and goods.
