We constructed a frequently updated, near-real-time global power generation dataset: Carbon Monitor-Power since January, 2016 at national levels with near-global coverage and hourly-to-daily time resolution. The data presented here are collected from 37 countries across all continents for eight source groups, including three types of fossil sources (coal, gas, and oil), nuclear energy and four groups of renewable energy sources (solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy and other renewables including biomass, geothermal, etc.). The global near-real-time power dataset shows the dynamics of the global power system, including its hourly, daily, weekly and seasonal patterns as influenced by daily periodical activities, weekends, seasonal cycles, regular and irregular events (i.e., holidays) and extreme events (i.e., the COVID-19 pandemic). The Carbon Monitor-Power dataset reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic caused strong disruptions in some countries (i.e., China and India), leading to a temporary or long-lasting shift to low carbon intensity, while it had only little impact in some other countries (i.e., Australia). In order to improve the safety of UAS flight, an autonomous flight UAS geofence algorithm is proposed. Firstly, by scaling the original geofence, a geofence pre-control-layer generation algorithm is proposed. Then, the buffer is added on the basis of traditional ray method to solve the problem of misjudgement of intersection points. The improved ray casting algorithm is used to detect the violation of geofence, and a re-planning method of the violating waypoints is proposed for the UAS with violating danger. The corresponding control law of boundary maintaining autonomous controls is designed. Simulation results both show that the UAS can modify the original flight path as little as possible on the basis of avoiding the violation of the geofence, and the proposed geofence algorithm is effective and can ensure the flight safety of autonomous UAS in geo-fence. © 2019 IEEE.

We assessed the association between a genome-wide polygenic risk score (PRS) developed for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) risk and mutation on the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene in 998 East Asian never-smoking female LUAD cases (518 EGFR-positive; 480 EGFR-negative) and 4,544 never-smoking controls using case-case and multinomial regression analyses. We found that the PRS was more strongly associated with EGFR-positive LUAD compared to EGFR-negative LUAD, where the association between the fourth quartile of the PRS and EGFR-positive LUAD (OR=8.63, 95% CI:5.67, 13.14) was significantly higher than the association between the fourth quartile of the PRS with EGFR-negative LUAD (OR=3.50, 95% CI: 2.44, 5.00) (p-heterogeneity=3.66x10). Our findings suggest that germline genetic susceptibility may be differentially associated with LUAD in never-smoking female East Asian patients depending on the cancer's mutation status, which may have important public health and clinical implications.

LAMMPS is one of the most popular Molecular Dynamic (MD) packages and is widely used in the field of physics, chemistry and materials simulation. Layered Materials Force Field (LMFF) is our expansion of the LAMMPS potential function based on the Tersoff potential and inter-layer potential (ILP) in LAMMPS. LMFF is designed to study layered materials such as graphene and boron hexanitride. It is universal and does not depend on any platform. We have also carried out a series of optimizations on LMFF and the optimization work is carried out on the new generation of Sunway supercomputer, called SWLMFF. Experiments show that our implementation is efficient, scalable and portable. When generic LMFF is ported to Intel Xeon Gold 6278C, $2\times$ performance improvement is achieved. For the optimized SWLMFF, the overall performance improvement is nearly $200-330\times$ compared to the original ILP and Tersoff potentials. And SWLMFF has good parallel efficiency of 95%-100% under weak scaling with 2.7 million atoms on a single process. The maximum atomic system simulated by SWLMFF is close to $2^{31}$ atoms. And nanosecond simulations in one day can be realized.

Virtual inertia controllers (VICs) for wind turbine generators (WTGs) have been recently developed to compensate the reduction of inertia in power systems. However, VICs can induce low frequency torsional oscillations of the drive train of WTGs. This paper addresses this issue and develops a new nonlinear VIC based on objective holographic feedbacks theory. This approach allows transforming the original nonlinear control into a completely controllable system of Brunovsky’s type. Simulation results under various scenarios demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms existing VICs in terms of suppression of low frequency drive-train torsional oscillations, enhancement of system frequency nadir as well as fast and smooth recovery of WTG rotor speed to the original MPP point before the disturbance. This paper presents an optimal path-following controller design for a ship. The main concern is to ensure the system output follows a planning path with the desired heading angle and speed. For the pre-processing, the quality of planning path will be optimized by using curve technique such as non-uniform b-spline instead of cubic spline. The backstepping control law which overcomes the defects of PID control law, be also robust and not require the number of signal input to equal the number of signal output. Hence in this paper, the backstepping algorithm is applied to solve this maneuvering problem. Simulation results on MATlab/SIMULINK demonstrate the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

The main goal of this paper studies modeling of a direct current coaxial motor (DCCM) and testing the main parameters of DCCM on the experimental model. The DCCM contains two rotors named inner runner and outer runner. The inner runner and the outer runner rotate in opposite directions to each other. The shaft of the inner runner and the shaft of the outer runner are coincident and inserted on two separate bearings. To prove this idea, the mathematic model is achieved by a combination of a mathematic model of DC motor and mathematic model of single phase coaxial motor. Simulation result of the mathematic model in Matlab shows the truth of the hypothesis of the design. The result of testing DCCM of the experimental model is fit to the result of simulation of DCCM in Matlab. Consequently, the DCCM can substitute for other kinds of propellers especially in marine applications.

Unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) is a type of robot that operates underwater for multi purposes such as underwater exploration purpose, hydro-meteorological exploration, and military purposes…. One of the most important part in the UUV is its thruster. This paper presents the design, analysis and control results of an underwater thruster of 300, W, which can be used for a small-sized UUV. The underwater thruster is designed by integrating different modules and built according to each system from mechanical design, hardware design, and control algorithm to ensure the thruster can operate underwater continuously in the depth of 100, m lifespan (equal to 145, psi) for long time. The thruster use magnetic coupling for waterproof and also can perform the overload protection for thruster. The housing and magnetic coupling were analyzed by using finite element analysis to optimize the thickness of the housing in deep water level. The mathematical model and simulation result of the speed control using PID and Fuzzy controllers are also presented. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

The aim of this study was firstly to design a dental camera based on the fluorescence technique for detection of dental caries and secondly to apply this device in the analysis and diagnosis of different types of caries. Using light-emitting diodes operating in the near ultraviolet spectral regions (370–390 nm) for excitation, the obtained fluorescence images of carious teeth were different from of sound teeth due to the presence of bacteria Streptococcus mutans producing metabolites called porphyrins. The sound teeth showed the blue fluorescence while the carious regions illuminated the red light. Based on the fluorescence color, dental caries can be discovered even in the early stages. Besides, this tool have some advantages such as safety (non-ionizing radiation), rapid test time, mobility, archiving software (saving diagnostic result as image and video) and low cost. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.
