Nowadays, image recognition plays a pivotal role in acquiring data via sensors. However, the adaptability of traditional algorithms is hindered by the unpredictable nature of open environments, varying sensor quality, and image dimensions. Challenges arise in adverse conditions like inclement weather, low light, and optical distortions. Retinex-based methods have emerged as a viable solution, effectively enhancing images plagued by shadows or poor lighting. Yet, issues surface when images possess saturated colors;the conventional multi-scale Retinex with color restoration risks color inversion. Moreover, during gain compensation, extreme histogram values occupy significant gray level space, obscuring vital image details. This study delves into these challenges and proposes an enhanced multi-scale Retinex algorithm. Our approach substitutes logarithmic functions with tansig functions, eliminating color inversion risks. Additionally, a novel gain compensation method, integrating histogram stretching with Gamma correction, refines image clarity. The algorithm's robustness is evidenced in diverse scenarios, including adverse weather, low light, underwater imaging, and non-uniform lighting. Experimental results validate our method's superiority, surpassing other Retinex-based techniques both qualitatively and quantitatively. This research contributes valuable insights into image enhancement methodologies, fostering advancements in sensor-based data gathering in Smart Spaces. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. This article will be based on the basic knowledge reasoning. The concept of knowledge based knowledge reasoning is introduced in recent years. In particular, knowledge reasoning can be divided into single step and multistep reasoning, because the methods are not the same. Faced with ever more serious security situation in bridge area, A Moving ship target detection and tracking method based on the complex background of the bridge area is presented . The background model based on a modified Gaussian Mixture Model .The algorithm upgrades the background model in real time, Foreground area is extracted by adaptive threshold method by marking each moving region in the binary image, the geometrical features parameters such as width ,height , centroid position and speed can be extracted, which lay the foundation for the analysis and track of moving. Ship motion situation calculation module based on visual geometry model, and calculates the movement state information of target ship's position in space coordinate, Ship's size, speed, heading etc. Collision risk prediction and collision avoidance maneuvering decision-making module combined ship real-time motion state information, and Bridge area ship's motion, introducing the collision risk to rank term, and early warning and collision avoidance maneuvering *** calculation of ship maneuvering and collision avoidance related distance parameter of bridge area, Introducing collision risk to rank terminology , Forming rationalization collision avoidance decisions, Thus reach the ship-bridge collision avoidance warning and precontrolling effect. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust real-time and accurate.

In this technical report, we briefly introduce the solution of our team "VIElab-HUST" for coded target restoration through atmospheric turbulence in CVPR 2023 UG2+ Track 2.2. In this task, we propose an efficient multi-stage framework to restore a high quality image from distorted frames. Specifically, each distorted frame is initially aligned using image registration to suppress geometric distortion. We subsequently select the sharpest set of registered frames by employing a frame selection approach based on image sharpness, and average them to produce an image that is largely free of geometric distortion, albeit with blurriness. A learning-based deblurring method is then applied to remove the residual blur in the averaged image. Finally, post-processing techniques are utilized to further enhance the quality of the output image. Our framework is capable of handling different kinds of coded target dataset provided in the final testing phase, and ranked 1st on the final leaderboard. Long-range Turbulence Mitigation: A Large-scale Dataset and A Coarse-to-fine Framework

Long-range imaging inevitably suffers from atmospheric turbulence with severe geometric distortions due to random refraction of light. The further the distance, the more severe the disturbance. Despite existing research has achieved great progress in tackling short-range turbulence, there is less attention paid to long-range turbulence with significant distortions. To address this dilemma and advance the field, we construct a large-scale real long-range atmospheric turbulence dataset (RLR-AT), including 1500 turbulence sequences spanning distances from 1 Km to 13 Km. The advantages of RLR-AT compared to existing ones: turbulence with longer-distances and higher-diversity, scenes with greater-variety and larger-scale. Moreover, most existing work adopts either registration-based or decomposition-based methods to address distortions through one-step mitigation. However, they fail to effectively handle long-range turbulence due to its significant pixel displacements. In this work, we propose a coarse-to-fine framework to handle severe distortions, which cooperates dynamic turbulence and static background priors (CDSP). On the one hand, we discover the pixel motion statistical prior of turbulence, and propose a frequency-aware reference frame for better large-scale distortion registration, greatly reducing the burden of refinement. On the other hand, we take advantage of the static prior of background, and propose a subspace-based low-rank tensor refinement model to eliminate the misalignments inevitably left by registration while well preserving details. The dynamic and static priors complement to each other, facilitating us to progressively mitigate long-range turbulence with severe distortions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms SOTA methods on different datasets. © 2024, CC BY.

The transformational and spatial proximities are important cues for identifying inliers from an appearance based match set because correct matches generally stay close in input images and share similar local transformations. However, most existing approaches only check one type of them or both types consecutively with manually set thresholds, and thus their matching accuracy and flexibility in handling large-scale images are limited. In this paper, we present an efficient clustering based approach to identify match inliers with both proximities simultaneously. It first projects the putative matches into a joint transformational-spatial space, where mismatches tend to scatter all around while correct matches gather together. A mode-seeking process based on joint kernel density estimation is then proposed to obtain significant clusters in the joint space, where each cluster contains matches mapping the same object across images with high accuracy. Moreover, kernel bandwidths for measuring match proximities are adaptively set during density estimation, which enhances its applicability for matching different images. Experiments on three standard datasets show that the proposed approach delivers superior performance on a variety of feature matching tasks, including multi-object matching, duplicate object matching and object retrieval. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

This paper presents a new fast template matching method with partial skipping using sub-template. In this method, we use sub-template to search point by point in the current searched window, and compare every SAD with threshold, if some SAD exceeds the threshold, set the new threshold equal to this SAD value and this point is one potential optimization location, when all points in the current window are compared, we will get a minimum value and a optimization location, then skip the other points whose SAD is not the minimum value. In other words, the searching step is that template size subtracts the sub-template size, and we set the next threshold equal to the current optimization SAD value, we update the threshold and the optimal point until the end of the searched image like this, then will find the global minimum points and its SAD value. Experimental results show that the proposed method is near one hundred times faster than the conventional template match method.

Reversible data hiding in encrypted image (RDH-EI) is a hot topic of data hiding in recent years. Most RDH-EI algorithms do not reach desirable embedding rate and their computational costs are not suitable for real-time applications. Aiming at these problems, we propose an efficient RDH-EI algorithm with shifting block histogram of pixel differences in homomorphic encrypted domain. A key step of our RDH-EI algorithm is the block-based encryption scheme with additive homomorphism, which can preserve spatial correlation of plaintext image in homomorphic encrypted domain. In addition, our proposed technique of shifting block histogram can achieve efficient data embedding with high payload and correctly recover image. Extensive experiments are conducted to validate performance of our RDH-EI algorithm. Comparison results illustrate that our RDH-EI algorithm outperforms some state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of embedding rate, visual quality and computational time. © 2018, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Emotion identification, which aims to determine a person’s affective state automatically, has immense potential value in many areas, such as action tendency, health care, psychological detection and human-computer (robot) interaction. In this paper, we propose a novel method for identifying emotion from natural walking. After obtaining the three-axis acceleration data of wrist and ankle recorded by smartphone, we run a moving average filter window with different length w, then cut actual data into slices. 114 features are extracted from each slice, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is used for feature selection. We train SVM, Decision Tree, multilayerperception, Random Tree and Random Forest classifiers, and compare the accuracy of emotion identification using different datasets (wrist vs. ankle) on different models. Results show that acceleration data from ankle has better performance in emotion identification than wrist. Among these models, SVM has the highest accuracy of 90.31 % for identifying anger vs. neutral, 89.76 % for happy vs. neutral, and 87.10 % for anger vs. happy. The model for identifying anger/neutral/happy yields the best accuracy of 85 %-78 %-78 %. The results show that we could identify people’s emotional states through the gait of walking with high accuracy. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016.
