On deploying relays for connected indoor sensor networks

This paper considers the crucial problem of deploying wireless relays for achieving a connected wireless sensor network in indoor environments, an important aspect related to the management of the sensor network. Several algorithms have been proposed for ensuring full sensing coverage and network connectivity. These algorithms are not applicable to indoor environments because of the complexity of indoor environments, in which a radio signal can be dramatically degraded by obstacles such as walls. We first prove theoretically that the indoor relay placement problem is NP-hard. We then predict the radio coverage of a given relay deployment in indoor environments. We consider two practical scenarios;wire-connected relays and radio-connected relays. For the network with wire-connected relays, we propose an efficient greedy algorithm to compute the deployment locations of relays for achieving the required coverage percentage. This algorithm is proved to provide a Hn factor approximation to the theoretical optimum, where Hn = 1 +1/2+⋯+1/n= ln(n) +1, and n is the number of all grid points. In the network with radio-connected relays, relays have to be connected in an ad hoc mode. We then propose an algorithm based on the previous algorithm for ensuring the connectivity of relays. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms achieve better performance than baseline algorithms. © 2014 KICS.

With the rapid development of smart phones and mobile Internet, the number of mobile software has largely increased, and online mobile software markets have also emerged, providing mobile software introduction and download for ***, for online resources are distributed and heterogeneous, different online markets may give different names, incomplete information or incorrect data about the same softwares, which causes troubles in management and maintenance of mobile software, In this paper, to solve inconsistency and heterogeneity of software information, we collect raw software data from popular online mobile software markets, unify its format by some preprocessing methods, utilize semantic technology to discover information errors and correct them automatically, and build mobile software ontology model to help manage the mobile phone software.

The paper proposes a novel approach based on the hierarchical timed automata to verify the consistency of dynamic evolution process. Different from traditional approaches, it investigates the problem from the behavioral perspective and examines the procedures before, during and after the evolution process. Furthermore, our approach can support the direct modeling of temporal aspects, as well as the hierarchical structures. A flattening algorithm is presented to facilitate the automated verification using the mainstream timed automata based model checker - UPPAAL. A motivating example is discussed and demonstrates the feasibility of our approach. © 2014 ACM.

In order to overcome the energy and environmental problems, biological hydrolysis of cellulosic material for ethanol production is a way to take the place of fossil fuels. But, the major problem of above process is the high cost of cellulase production. Mathematical modeling is a useful way of process analysis and optimization, which may help to increase the productivity and decrease production cost. In this research, mathematical modeling of cellulose fermentation process is made, and used in analyses of the fermentation process. © 2014 WIT Press.

In enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose, the composition of the enzyme system and the ratio of the enzyme activities are important factors for efficient hydrolysis of cellulose. With the proper ratio of cellulase to β-glucosidase activities, the activity of the enzyme system can be much increased showing synergistic effect. In this research, the synergistic effect between cellulase and β-glucosidase is investigated by mathematical modeling and computer simulation. The results show that the enzyme system has the highest cellulose hydrolytic activity when the activities of cellulose and β-glucosidase are equal. This simulation results are supported by our former experimental resulted. © 2014 WIT Press.

Bioethanol is promising in the era faced with the energy crisis and environmental problems. In order to decrease the bioethanol production cost, optimization of the bioethanol fermentation process is essential. The aerobic pulse stimulation during the early growth phase could stimulate the cell growth and shorten the fermentation period. In order to confirm above hypothesis, mathematical modeling and computer simulation about the above two operation styles of ethanol fermentation processes were made. The results showed that the fermentation period was shortened for more than 10 h, confirming the usefulness of the mathematical modeling and simulation methods used in this research. © 2014 WIT Press.

Personalized recommendation is one of the most effective methods to solve the problem of information overloading. As many real existing systems in nature, a recommendation system can also be considered as a complex network system, so we can do personalized recommendation by using the link prediction method which is a new one in complex networks research area. In this paper, we present personalized recommendation method based on the link prediction in Super-networks. Firstly, we give several definitions such as a Super-network, a dynamic Super-network and a utility matrix etc. Secondly, we construct a personalized recommendation model based on these definitions. Thirdly, we define a similarity metric for users and some similarity criteria, put forward five link prediction related algorithms in dynamic Supernetworks and present our recommendation algorithms based on these link prediction algorithms. Finally, we apply our methods to classic datasets in order to evaluate the performance of our algorithms. © 2014 IEEE.

Most existing language modeling approaches are based on the term independence hypothesis. To go beyond this assumption, two main directions were investigated. The first one considers the use of the proximity features that capture the degree to which search terms appear close to each other in a document. Another one considers the use of semantic relationships between words. Previous studies have proven that these two types of information, including term proximity features and semantic relationships between words, are both useful to improve retrieval performance. Intuitionally, we can use them in combination to further improve retrieval performance. Based on this idea, this paper propose a positional translation language model to explicitly incorporate both of these two types of information under language modeling framework in a unified way. In the first step, we present a proximity-based method to estimate word-word translation probabilities. Then, we define a translation document model for each position of a document and use these document models to score the document. Experimental results on standard TREC collections show that the proposed model achieves significant improvements over the state-of-the-art models, including positional language model, and translation language models. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

This paper proposes to solve the task scheduling problem in cloud computing by using a load balance aware genetic algorithm (LAGA) with Minmin and Max-min methods. Task scheduling problems are of great importance in cloud computing, and become especially challenging when taking load balance into account. Our proposed LAGA algorithm has several advantages when solving this kind of problems. Firstly, by introducing the time load balance (TLB) model to help establish the fitness function with makespan, the algorithm benefits from the ability to find the solution that performs best on load balance among a set of solutions with the same makespan. More importantly, the interaction between makespan and TLB helps the algorithm to minimize makespan in the same time. Secondly, Min-min and Max-min methods are used to produce promising individuals at the beginning of evolution, leading to noticeable improvement of evolution efficiency. We evaluated LAGA on several task scheduling problems and compared with a Min-min, Max-min improved version of genetic algorithm (MMGA), which does not use the TLB strategy. The results show that LAGA can obtain very competitive results with good load balancing properties, and outperform MMGA in both makespan and TLB objectives. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
