As a distributed machine learning method, federated learning (FL) can collaboratively train a global model with multiple devices without sharing the original data, thus protecting certain privacy. However, due to the strong heterogeneity of edge nodes (ENs) participating in FL, the quality of data uploaded to the parameter server (PS) varies significantly. Without an appropriate incentive mechanism, low-quality contributors may receive disproportionately high rewards, while high-quality contributors may lack sufficient motivation, leading to inefficient participation and suboptimal global model performance. Consequently, it is critical to develop an effective incentive mechanism to promote fairness for the FL process. To address the issues of existing FL incentive mechanisms lacking privacy protection performance analysis, we propose a fairness-aware incentive mechanism for multi-server FL in edge-enabled wireless differential privacy (DP) networks. Specifically, the wireless channel noise is used to provide DP protection for the local model gradients uploaded by ENs. Next, the interaction between the PSs and ENs is modeled as a Stackelberg game. Furthermore, we solve the Stackelberg game process using backward induction and theoretically propose optimal strategies for both the PSs and ENs. Finally, extensive numerical simulations using real datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our theoretical analysis of the proposed scheme. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

PersuasiveToM: A Benchmark for Evaluating Machine Theory of Mind in Persuasive Dialogues

The ability to understand and predict the mental states of oneself and others, known as the Theory of Mind (ToM), is crucial for effective social interactions. Recent research has emerged to evaluate whether Large Language Models (LLMs) exhibit a form of ToM. Although recent studies have evaluated ToM in LLMs, existing benchmarks focus predominantly on physical perception with principles guided by the Sally-Anne test in synthetic stories and conversations, failing to capture the complex psychological activities of mental states in real-life social interactions. To mitigate this gap, we propose PERSUASIVETOM, a benchmark designed to evaluate the ToM abilities of LLMs in persuasive dialogues. Our framework introduces two categories of questions: (1) ToM Reasoning, assessing the capacity of LLMs to track evolving mental states (e.g., desire shifts in persuadees), and (2) ToM Application, evaluating whether LLMs can take advantage of inferred mental states to select effective persuasion strategies (e.g., emphasize rarity) and evaluate the effectiveness of persuasion strategies. Experiments across eight state-of-the-art LLMs reveal that while models excel on multiple questions, they struggle to answer questions that need tracking the dynamics and shifts of mental states and understanding the mental states in the whole dialogue comprehensively. Our aim with PERSUASIVETOM is to allow an effective evaluation of the ToM reasoning ability of LLMs with more focus on complex psychological activities. SIMAC: A Semantic-Driven Integrated Multimodal Sensing And Communication Framework

Traditional single-modality sensing faces limitations in accuracy and capability, and its decoupled implementation with communication systems increases latency in bandwidth-constrained environments. Additionally, single-task-oriented sensing systems fail to address users’ diverse demands. To overcome these challenges, we propose a semantic-driven integrated multimodal sensing and communication (SIMAC) framework. This framework leverages a joint source-channel coding architecture to achieve simultaneous sensing decoding and transmission of sensing results. Specifically, SIMAC first introduces a multimodal semantic fusion (MSF) network, which employs two extractors to extract semantic information from radar signals and images, respectively. MSF then applies cross-attention mechanisms to fuse these unimodal features and generate multimodal semantic representations. Secondly, we present a large language model (LLM)-based semantic encoder (LSE), where relevant communication parameters and multimodal semantics are mapped into a unified latent space and input to the LLM, enabling channel-adaptive semantic encoding. Thirdly, a task-oriented sensing semantic decoder (SSD) is proposed, in which different decoded heads are designed according to the specific needs of tasks. Simultaneously, a multi-task learning strategy is introduced to train the SIMAC framework, achieving diverse sensing services. Re-quantization based binary graph neural networks

Binary neural networks have become a promising research topic due to their advantages of fast inference speed and low energy consumption. However, most existing studies focus on binary convolutional neural networks, while less attention has been paid to binary graph neural networks. A common drawback of existing studies on binary graph neural networks is that they still include lots of inefficient full-precision operations in multiplying three matrices and are therefore not efficient enough. In this paper, we propose a novel method, called re-quantization-based binary graph neural networks(RQBGN), for binarizing graph neural networks. Specifically, re-quantization, a necessary procedure contributing to the further reduction of superfluous inefficient full-precision operations, quantizes the results of multiplication between any two matrices during the process of multiplying three matrices. To address the challenges introduced by requantization, in RQBGN we first study the impact of different computation orders to find an effective one and then introduce a mixture of experts to increase the model capacity. Experiments on five benchmark datasets show that performing re-quantization in different computation orders significantly impacts the performance of binary graph neural network models, and RQBGN can outperform other baselines to achieve state-of-the-art performance.

Stochastic normalized gradient descent with momentum for large-batch training

Stochastic gradient descent(SGD) and its variants have been the dominating optimization methods in machine learning. Compared with SGD with small-batch training, SGD with large-batch training can better utilize the computational power of current multi-core systems such as graphics processing units(GPUs)and can reduce the number of communication rounds in distributed training settings. Thus, SGD with large-batch training has attracted considerable attention. However, existing empirical results showed that large-batch training typically leads to a drop in generalization accuracy. Hence, how to guarantee the generalization ability in large-batch training becomes a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective method, called stochastic normalized gradient descent with momentum(SNGM), for large-batch training. We prove that with the same number of gradient computations, SNGM can adopt a larger batch size than momentum SGD(MSGD), which is one of the most widely used variants of SGD, to converge to an?-stationary point. Empirical results on deep learning verify that when adopting the same large batch size,SNGM can achieve better test accuracy than MSGD and other state-of-the-art large-batch training methods.

Marine Wireless Rechargeable Sensor Networks (MWRSNs), enhanced by recent Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology, present a significant advancement in extending network life. Traditional methods improve network performance through algorithm optimization, but neglect charging security, exposing networks to potential attacks. This paper addresses this problem from an adversarial view and develops a novel attack for MWRSN through Denying of Charge (DoC) to maximize network destructiveness. We start by establishing a generalized on-demand charging model, essential for developing DoC tactics. Subsequently, we unveil the Collaborative DoC (CoDoC) algorithm, capable of manipulating and falsifying charging requests. Central to CoDoC is the Request Prediction Method (RPM), which forecasts the initiation of charging requests and facilitates rapid request surges to enhance the attack's efficacy. CoDoC is able to disguise the presence of the attack, which is able to escape from being detected by the base station. Theoretical analyses are provided to explore the features of the proposed scheme. To demonstrate the outperformed features of the proposed schemes, extensive simulations and test-bed experiments are conducted. Our analysis and extensive simulations demonstrate that CoDoC increases sensor node failures by 20% to 142% compared to traditional methods, highlighting its effectiveness in marine environments. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Semantic Communications with computer Vision Sensing for Edge Video Transmission

Despite the widespread adoption of vision sensors in edge applications, such as surveillance, the transmission of video data consumes substantial spectrum resources. Semantic communication (SC) offers a solution by extracting and compressing information at the semantic level, preserving the accuracy and relevance of transmitted data while significantly reducing the volume of transmitted information. However, traditional SC methods face inefficiencies due to the repeated transmission of static frames in edge videos, exacerbated by the absence of sensing capabilities, which results in spectrum inefficiency. To address this challenge, we propose a SC with computer vision sensing (SCCVS) framework for edge video transmission. The framework first introduces a compression ratio (CR) adaptive SC (CRSC) model, capable of adjusting CR based on whether the frames are static or dynamic, effectively conserving spectrum resources. Additionally, we implement an object detection and semantic segmentation models-enabled sensing (OSMS) scheme, which intelligently senses the changes in the scene and assesses the significance of each frame through in-context analysis. Hence, The OSMS scheme provides CR prompts to the CRSC model based on real-time sensing results. Moreover, both CRSC and OSMS are designed as lightweight models, ensuring compatibility with resource-constrained sensors commonly used in practical edge applications. Experimental simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed SCCVS framework, demonstrating its ability to enhance transmission efficiency without sacrificing critical semantic information. Model-Based Offline Reinforcement Learning with Adversarial Data Augmentation

Model-based offline Reinforcement Learning (RL) constructs environment models from offline datasets to perform conservative policy optimization. Existing approaches focus on learning state transitions through ensemble models, rollouting conservative estimation to mitigate extrapolation errors. However, the static data makes it challenging to develop a robust policy, and offline agents cannot access the environment to gather new data. To address these challenges, we introduce Model-based Offline Reinforcement learning with AdversariaL data augmentation (MORAL). In MORAL, we replace the fixed horizon rollout by employing adversaria data augmentation to execute alternating sampling with ensemble models to enrich training data. Specifically, this adversarial process dynamically selects ensemble models against policy for biased sampling, mitigating the optimistic estimation of fixed models, thus robustly expanding the training data for policy optimization. Moreover, a differential factor is integrated into the adversarial process for regularization, ensuring error minimization in extrapolations. This data-augmented optimization adapts to diverse offline tasks without rollout horizon tuning, showing remarkable applicability. Extensive experiments on D4RL benchmark demonstrate that MORAL outperforms other model-based offline RL methods in terms of policy learning and sample efficiency. © 2025, CC BY.

Diff-Reg v2: Diffusion-Based Matching Matrix Estimation for Image Matching and 3D Registration

Establishing reliable correspondences is crucial for all registration tasks, including 2D image registration, 3D point cloud registration, and 2D-3D image-to-point cloud registration. However, these tasks are often complicated by challenges such as scale inconsistencies, symmetry, and large deformations, which can lead to ambiguous matches. Previous feature-based and correspondence-based methods typically rely on geometric or semantic features to generate or polish initial potential correspondences. Some methods typically leverage specific geometric priors, such as topological preservation, to devise diverse and innovative strategies tailored to a given enhancement goal, which cannot be exhaustively enumerated. Additionally, many previous approaches rely on a single-step prediction head, which can struggle with local minima in complex matching scenarios. To address these challenges, we introduce an innovative paradigm that leverages a diffusion model in matrix space for robust matching matrix estimation. Our model treats correspondence estimation as a denoising diffusion process in the matching matrix space, gradually refining the intermediate matching matrix to the optimal one. Specifically, we apply the diffusion model in the doubly stochastic matrix space for 3D-3D and 2D-3D registration tasks. In the 2D image registration task, we deploy the diffusion model in a matrix sub-space, where dual-softmax projection regularization is applied. For all three registration tasks, we provide adaptive matching matrix embedding implementations tailored to the specific characteristics of each task while maintaining a consistent"match-to-warp" encoding pattern. Furthermore, we adopt a lightweight design for the denoising module. In inference, once points or image features are extracted and fixed, this module performs multi-step denoising predictions through reverse sampling. CPL-SLAM: Centralized Collaborative Multi-Robot Visual-Inertial SLAM Using Point-and-Line Features

Traditional visual-inertial SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) systems predominantly rely on feature point matching from a single robot to realize the robot pose estimation and environment map construction. However, in complex scenarios, these traditional systems struggle with issues such as tracking failures due to illumination changes, rapid movements, and low-texture environments, and they perform poorly in terms of mapping efficiency and global consistency. To address these challenges, we propose a centralized collaborative SLAM system that employs both point and line features for tracking in the robot and map fusion in the cloud. The proposed system leverages the fusion of point and line features across all instances in the process, which allows our method to achieve higher localization accuracy in structured, low-texture scenes. With the aid of classifying gravity-aligned vertical lines and spatial parallel lines, the proposed system can deliver faster and more accurate odometry in complex scenes. Furthermore, we developed intra-robot and inter-robot loop closure detection methods based on point and line features, generating a globally consistent sparse point cloud and structured scene map in the cloud. Our method is able to build richer maps while improving accuracy compared to existing methods. Experimental results on public datasets and in real-world environments show that, compared to existing advanced methods, our approach demonstrates better performance. © 2014 IEEE.
