Merge-Weighted Dynamic Time Warping for Speech Recognition

Obtaining training material for rarely used English words and common given names from countries where English is not spoken is difficult due to excessive time, storage and cost factors. By considering personal privacy, language- independent （LI） with lightweight speaker-dependent （SD） automatic speech recognition （ASR） is a convenient option to solve tile problem. The dynamic time warping （DTW） algorithm is the state-of-the-art algorithm for small-footprint SD ASR for real-time applications with limited storage and small vocabularies. These applications include voice dialing on mobile devices, menu-driven recognition, and voice control on vehicles and robotics. However, traditional DTW has several lhnitations, such as high computational complexity, constraint induced coarse approximation, and inaccuracy problems. In this paper, we introduce the merge-weighted dynamic time warping （MWDTW） algorithm. This method defines a template confidence index for measuring the similarity between merged training data and testing data, while following the core DTW process. MWDTW is simple, efficient, and easy to implement. With extensive experiments on three representative SD speech recognition datasets, we demonstrate that our method outperforms DTW, DTW on merged speech data, the hidden Markov model （HMM） significantly, and is also six times faster than DTW overall.

Cold data contributes a large portion of the big data today and is usually stored in secondary storage. Various sketch data structures are implemented to represent the stored elements and provide constant-time membership queries. Considering the large volume and infrequent access of cold data, we envision three rationales of cold data representation: 1) parallelized insertion, 2) accurate representation, and 3) constant-time query/deletion. The existing sketches, however, fail to achieve these rationales simultaneously. To this end, we propose a novel sketch named parallelized cuckoo Filter (PCF) in this paper. PCF divides the standard cuckoo filter into multiple homogenous segments. An additional hash function is introduced to assign an element to a segment. The element will be inserted into the selected segment. With such a design, element insertions in PCF can be naturally parallelized. Besides, as a variant of the cuckoo filter, PCF naturally realizes the accurate representation and constant-time query/deletion requirements. Comprehensive experiments further indicate that PCF achieves the three rationales simultaneously. © 2021 IEEE.

The high-quality development of Open Source Software(OSS) benefits from the contributions of developers. An important research question is how to truly assess the extent of contribution of all developers in open source software and effectively identify the core developers to avoid their loss. In this paper, we use the undirected weighted network model to build a Developer Collaboration Network(DCN) based on developers and their contributions to the GitHub community's open source software Rails, analyse the characteristics of developer partnerships through the Developer Collaboration Network, and propose a Developer Personal Impact Factor(DPIF) to evaluate the importance of developer, select the top 10 core developers in Rails, focus on their participation in the open source software process, and predicting the changes of their contributions. The experimental results show that core developers with extensive partnerships are more likely to associate with developers with fewer partnerships. The average degree of developer contribution does not increase with more developers. Developer partnerships are characterized by close localization and loose overall relationships. The Developer Personal Impact Factor identifies the core developers in open source software well. The Developer Personal Impact Factor gives a ranking in which the core team members rank in the top 1.17% on average. © 2022 IEEE.

HyperLogLog Counting is widely used in cardinality estimation. It is the foundation of many algorithms in data analysis, commodity recommendation and database optimization. Facing the large scale internet business like electronic commerce, internet companies have an urgent requirement of distributed real-time cardinality estimation with high accuracy and low time cost. In this paper, we propose a distributed real-time cardinality estimation algorithm named Hermes. Hermes adjusts the estimated cardinality dynamically according to the result of HyperLogLog Counting and also optimizes the data distribution strategy of existing distributed cardinality estimation algorithms. Experiments have been carried out and the results show that Hermes has lower estimation error and time cost compared with existing algorithms.

Discourse structure analysis has shown to be useful for many artificial intelligence (AI) tasks such as text sum-marization and text categorization. However, for the Chinese news domain, the discourse structure analysis system is still immature due to the limitation of the lack of expert-annotated datasets. In this paper, we present CNA, a Chinese news corpus containing 1155 news articles annotated by human experts, which covers four domains and four news media sources. Next, we implement several text classification methods as baselines. Experimental results demonstrate that document-level method can achieve a better performance, and we further propose a document-level neural network model with multiple sentence features which achieves the state-of-the-art performance. In the end, we analyze the content type distribution of each sentence in CNA and the prediction errors of our model that occurred on the test set. Cloudroid: A cloud framework for transparent and QoS-aware robotic computation outsourcing

Many robotic tasks require heavy computation, which can easily exceed the robot's onboard computer capability. A promising solution to address this challenge is outsourcing the computation to the cloud. However, exploiting the potential of cloud resources in robotic software is difficult, because it involves complex code modification and extensive (re)configuration procedures. Moreover, quality of service (QoS) such as timeliness, which is critical to robot's behavior, have to be considered. In this paper, we propose a transparent and QoS-aware software framework called Cloudroid for cloud robotic applications. This framework supports direct deployment of existing robotic software packages to the cloud, transparently transforming them into Internet-accessible cloud services. And with the automatically generated service stubs, robotic applications can outsource their computation to the cloud without any code modification. Furthermore, the robot and the cloud can cooperate to maintain the specific QoS property such as request response time, even in a highly dynamic and resource-competitive environment. We evaluated Cloudroid based on a group of typical robotic scenarios and a set of software packages widely adopted in real-world robot practices. Results show that robots capability can be enhanced significantly without code modification and specific QoS objectives can be guaranteed. In certain tasks, the"cloud + robot" setup shows improved performance in orders of magnitude compared with the robot native setup. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Jammer Localization for Wireless Sensor Networks

Jamming attack can severely affect the performance of Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) due to the broadcast nature of wireless medium. In order to localize the source of the attacker, we in this paper propose a jammer localization algorithm named as Minimum-circle-covering based localization (MCCL). Comparing with the existing solutions that rely on the wireless propagation parameters, MCCL only depends on the location information of sensor nodes at the border of the jammed region. MCCL uses the plane geometry knowledge, especially the minimum circle covering technique, to form an approximate jammed region, and hence the center of the jammed region is treated as the estimated position of the jammer. Simulation results showed that MCCL is able to achieve higher accuracy than other existing solutions in terms of jammer's transmission range and sensitivity to nodes' density.

Deep reinforcement learning (RL) is playing an increasingly important role in web services such as news recommendation, vulnerability detection, and personalized services. Exploration is a key component of RL, which determines whether these RL-based applications could find effective solutions eventually. In this paper, we propose a novel gradient-based fast adaptation approach for model agnostic meta-reinforcement learning via Bayesian structure exploration (BSE-MAML). BSE-MAML could effectively learn exploration strategies from prior experience by updating policy with embedding latent space via a Bayesian mechanism. Coherent stochasticity injected by latent space are more efficient than random noise, and can produce exploration strategies to perform well in novel environment. We have conducted extensive experiments to evaluate BSE-MAML. Experimental results show that BSE-MAML achieves better performance in exploration in realistic environments with sparse rewards, compared to state-of-the-art meta-RL algorithms, RL methods without learning exploration strategies, and task-agnostic exploration approaches.
