A measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions, Rτ/e = B(W → τν)/B(W → eν), is performed using a sample of W bosons originating from top-quark decays to final states containing τ-leptons or electrons. This measurement uses pp collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV, collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider during Run 2, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The W → τντ (with τ → eνeντ) and W → eνe decays are distinguished using the differences in the impact parameter distributions and transverse momentum spectra of the electrons. The measured ratio of branching fractions Rτ/e = 0.975 ± 0.012 (stat.) ± 0.020 (syst.), is consistent with the Standard Model assumption of lepton flavour universality in W-boson decays.

The parameter inversion of multi-modulation waveforms has always been a key and difficult problem in the field of electronic reconnaissance. To solve this problem, a method for intra-pulse modulation feature analysis and parameter estimation of phase and frequency multi-modulation signal is proposed in this paper. Firstly, we apply square preprocessing to eliminate the binary phase coded modulation information. Then, subpulse separation and subpulse parameter estimation are achieved by using the smooth pseudo-Wigner Ville distribution (SPWVD) and wavelet transform. Moreover, histogram statistics are introduced to improve the robustness of the method. Finally, the N-order phase difference is proposed for recovering binary phase coded sequences. Frequency domain filtering and sliding window averaging are also added to further improve the applicability of the proposed method under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions. Simulation results suggest that the method proposed in this paper can achieve accurate signal inversion and has good robustness. © The Institution of Engineering & technology 2023.

Compound extreme events and health risks in China: A review

Against the backdrop of global warming, China has been facing increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather and climate events, with a prominent risk of compound extreme events induced by interactions among multiple climate drivers and/or hazards. The present study first reviews the definition and classification of compound extreme events in China. Then, it summarizes research progress on the evolutionary characteristics, formation mechanisms, and future projections of different types of compound extreme events. The potential risks and possible impact pathways of three specific event types—namely, continuous day–night hot extremes, temperature–humidity compound events, and high-temperature–ozone compound events—on the health of the Chinese population are then explored. Finally, a framework for assessing the hazard risk of compound extreme events is constructed, accompanied by response strategies based on carbon neutrality targets. Building on existing research achievements, five future research directions are proposed: (1) identifying the risk chains of compound events; (2) addressing the constraints of observational records and coupled model performances; (3) attributing and understanding the drivers of compound extreme events; (4) finding optimal pathways for carbon reduction and air quality improvement; and (5) promoting inter-disciplinary, multi-regional, and cross-sectoral collaboration. Strengthening research in these directions will deepen our understanding of compound extreme events and provide technological support for climate change adaptation and health risk responses in China. 在全球变暖的背景下, 中国面临着日益频繁和严峻的极端天气气候事件, 其中以多种气候驱动因子和/或灾害相互作用而形成的复合型极端事件风险尤为突出.本文首先回顾了中国区域复合型极端事件的定义与分型;然后综述了不同类型复合型极端事件的演变特征,形成机制以及未来预估等方面的研究进展;随后, 探讨了日夜持续型极端高温事件,温湿复合事件以及高温–臭氧复合事件等三类事件对我国人群健康的潜在风险及可能的影响途径;最后, 阐述了复合型极端事件灾害风险评估框架, 并在此基础上提出了基于碳中和目标的应对策略.在总结既有研究成果的基础上, 提出了五个未来亟需关注的研究方向:(1)复合事件灾害风险链的识别问题;(2)观测资料和耦合模式性能的制约问题;(3)复合型极端事件的归因与成因问题;(4)碳减排与空气质量改善的最优路径问题;(5)多学科,多区域,多部门的合作问题.加强上述方

The tooth consists of enamel, dentin, and pulp. The outer surface of the enamel, the interface between dentin and pulp, as well as the interface between enamel and dentin is complicated. To better capture the details of the tooth, Nano Computed Tomography (CT) is used to obtain the detailed images of the tooth, and the CT images are further imported to construct the 3D structure of the tooth. This 3D model provides a precise representation of the tooth's geometry and material properties, and a numerical model is proposed based on the local radial basis function collocation method (LRBFCM), which is suitable for analyzing the complex geometry. The combination of Nano-CT and the LRBFCM offers a powerful tool for analyzing the mechanical behavior of the tooth. The stress distribution and defects of the tooth are fully studied based on the proposed numerical model.

Recently, the type of compound regularizers has become a popular choice for signal reconstruction. The estimation quality is generally sensitive to the values of multiple regularization parameters. In this work, based on BDF algorithm, we develop a data-driven optimization scheme based on minimization of Stein's unbiased risk estimate (SURE) - statistically equivalent to mean squared error (MSE). We propose a recursive evaluation of SURE to monitor the MSE during BDF iteration;the optimal values of the multiple parameters are then identified by the minimum SURE. Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to compute SURE for large-scale data. We exemplify the proposed method with image deconvolution. numerical experiments show that the proposed method leads to highly accurate estimates of regularization parameters and nearly optimal restoration performance.

The particle velocity distribution in space plasma usually exhibits a non-Maxwellian high-energy tail that can be well modeled by kappa *** this study,we focus on the growth rates of the Alfvén-cyclotron instability driven by ion temperature anisotropy in a kappa *** solving the kinetic linear dispersion equation,we explore the sensitivity of growth rates to the spectral indexκof a bi-kappa distribution under different plasma conditions,including a variety of plasma beta β_(hp) and temperature anisotropy A_(hp) values of hot ***,a concise,analytic scaling formula is derived that relates the dimensionless maximum growth rate to three independent variables:the spectral index and the plasma beta and temperature anisotropy of hot *** results show that as theκ-value increases,the instability bandwidth narrows and the maximum growth rate increases *** higherβ_(hp)and A_(hp)′the maximum instability undergoes a sharp increase as *** our fits of dimensionless maximum growth rates are compared with solutions to kinetic linear dispersion theory,the results generally exhibit good agreement between *** under the circumstances of largeκ-values and highβ_(hp)and A_(hp)′the scalings of maximum growth rates primarily accurately model the numerical *** analytic expressions can readily be used in large-scale models of the Earth’s magnetosphere to understand wave generation due to the Alfvén-cyclotron instability.

Magnetic and topological transitions in three-dimensional topological Kondo insulator

Using an extended slave-boson method,we draw a global phase diagram summarizing both magnetic phases and paramagnetic（PM） topological insulators（TIs） in a three-dimensional topological Kondo insulator（TKI）. By including electron hopping（EH） up to the third neighbors, we identify four strong TI（STI） phases and two weak TI（WTI） phases. Then, the PM phase diagrams characterizing topological transitions between these TIs are depicted as functions of EH,f-electron energy level,and hybridization constant. We also find an insulator-metal transition from an STI phase that has surface Fermi rings and spin textures in qualitative agreement with the TKI candidate SmBs. In the weak hybridization regime, antiferromagnetic（AF） order naturally arises in the phase diagrams. Depending on how the magnetic boundary crosses the PM topological transition lines,AF phases are classified into the AF topological insulator（AFTI） and the non-topological AF insulator, according to their Z2 indices. In two small regions of parameter space, two distinct topological transition processes between AF phases occur, leading to two types of AFTIs showing distinguishable surface dispersions around their Dirac points.

It has entering an age of small aerospace. New topics have been booming, such small satellite and cubesat, launcher for the small ones and commercial space, which are noticed not only by commercial groups but by the governments. More and more activities are taking place about these small spacecraft, India delivered about 100 cubesat during a launch this year, a small satellite was ejected from Small Satellite Orbital Deployer on the International Space Station in 2016, Some cubesats and small satellite from academical groups from Europe and China and other countries have been launched during other activities. While small spacecraft is benefit for its lower weight, lower cost, short R&D duration, and useful for scientific research, earth observation, and circumstance surveillance, satellite repairing, etc., there are more and more risks with the high speed delivering of manmade objects in low orbits. And in addition, with the development of small launch vehicles, the launching itself maybe executed by anyone themselves in the future. So there should be some new rules and frames built for activities and use of space from the aspect of space security, and which is benefit for the sustainable use of lower orbit and space, and thus for our mankind.
