DFTracker: detecting double-fetch bugs by multi-taint parallel tracking

A race condition is a common trigger for concurrency bugs. As a special case, a race condition can also occur across the kernel and user space causing a doublefetch bug, which is a field that has received little research attention. In our work, we first analyzed real-world doublefetch bug cases and extracted two specific patterns for doublefetch bugs. Based on these patter ns, we proposed an approach of multi-taint parallel tracking to detect double-fetch bugs. We also implemented a prototype called DFTracker (doublefetch bug tracker), and we evaluated it with our test suite. Our experiments demonstrated that it could effectively find all the double-fetch bugs in the test suite including eight realworld cases with no false negatives and minor false positives. In addition, we tested it on Linux kernel and found a new double-fetch bug. The execution overhead is approximately 2x for single-file cases and approximately 9x for the whole kernel test, which is acceptable. To the best of the authors1 knowledge, this work is the first to introduce multi-taint parallel tracking to double-fetch bug detection—an innovative method that is specific to double-fetch bug features—and has better path coverage as well as lower runtime overhead than the widely used dynamic approaches.

A Prompting-based Approach for Adversarial Example Generation and Robustness Enhancement

Recent years have seen the wide application of NLP models in crucial areas such as finance, medical treatment, and news media, raising concerns of the model robustness and vulnerabilities. In this paper, we propose a novel prompt-based adversarial attack to compromise NLP models and robustness enhancement technique. We first construct malicious prompts for each instance and generate adversarial examples via mask-and-filling under the effect of a malicious purpose. Our attack technique targets the inherent vulnerabilities of NLP models, allowing us to generate samples even without interacting with the victim NLP model, as long as it is based on pre-trained language models (PLMs). Furthermore, we design a prompt-based adversarial training method to improve the robustness of PLMs. As our training method does not actually generate adversarial samples, it can be applied to large-scale training sets efficiently. The experimental results show that our attack method can achieve a high attack success rate with more diverse, fluent and natural adversarial examples. In addition, our robustness enhancement method can significantly improve the robustness of models to resist adversarial attacks. Our work indicates that prompting paradigm has great potential in probing some fundamental flaws of PLMs and fine-tuning them for downstream tasks. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Underwater acoustic classification using masked modeling-based swin transformer

Underwater acoustic classification is a challenging task due to complex background noise and complicated sound propagation patterns. How to represent the signals is important for the classification task. In this paper, we propose a novel representation learning method for the underwater acoustic signals, leveraging the mask modeling-based self-supervised learning paradigm. Specifically, we first explore modifying the Swin Transformer architecture to learn general representation for the audio signals, accompanied with random masking on the log-mel spectrogram. The main goal of the pretext task is to predict the masked parts of Log-mel spectrogram and the gamma-stone spectrogram, so that the model can not only learn the local and global features but also learn complementary information. For downstream task, we utilize the labelled datasets to fine-tune the pre-trained model. On DeepShip datasets which consist of 47 hand 4 minof ship sounds in four categories, our model achieves state-of-the-art performance compared with competitive approaches. Our method obtains a classification accuracy of 78.03%, which is better than the separable convolution autoencoder (SCAE) and using the constant-Q transform spectrogram. This work demonstrates the potential of the masked modeling based self-supervised learning for understanding and interpretation of underwater acoustic signals.

Stencil Computation has long been an omnipresent kernel of a wide range of scientific and engineering applications. There is much work investigating the stencil performance on x86 processors and accelerators such as GPU. Meanwhile, ARM processors for HPC have been highlighted more and more with Fugaku of Japan becoming the first number one system on the TOP-500 list. In this paper, we focus on modeling and optimizing the performance of stencil computation on ARM architectures. Specifically, we proposed a performance model for stencil computation based on tiling optimization to guide the optimal configuration of tiling parameters for good cache reuse. We validate the proposed model with the Performance Monitor Unit (PMU) provided by the ARM processor. Experimental results show that the prediction error of the execution time can be lower to 1.37%. Furthermore, we can achieve a maximum of 1.26 \times speedup compared to the naive implementation according to the optimization parameters provided from the model. © 2020 IEEE.

With the rapid development of Internet technology, various network attack methods come out one after the other. SQL injection has become one of the most severe threats to Web applications and seriously threatens various Web application services and users' data security. There are both traditional detection methods and emerging methods based on deep learning technology with higher detection accuracy for the detection of SQL injection. However, they are all for detecting a single statement and cannot determine the stage of the attack. To further improve the effect of SQL injection detection, this paper proposes an integrated detection framework for SQL injection behavior based on both text features and traffic features. We propose a SQL-LSTM model based on deep learning technology as the detection model at the text features level. Meanwhile,the features of the data traffic are merged. By this integrated method, the detection effect of SQL injection is further improved.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), one of the most representative algorithms of deep learning, are widely used in various artificial intelligence applications. Convolution operations often take most of the computational overhead of CNNs. The FFT-based algorithm can improve the efficiency of convolution by reducing its algorithm complexity, there are a lot of works about the high-performance implementation of FFT-based convolution on many-core CPUs. However, there is no optimization for the non-uniform memory access (NUMA) characteristics in manycore CPUs. In this paper, we present a NUMA-aware FFT-based convolution implementation on ARMv8 many-core CPUs with NUMA architectures. The implementation can reduce a number of remote memory access through the data reordering of FFT transformations and the three-level parallelization of the complex matrix multiplication. The experiment results on a ARMv8 many-core CPU with NUMA architectures demonstrate that our NUMA-aware implementation has much better performance than the state-of-the-art work in most cases. Turbo product codes (TPC) are a class of forward error correction (FEC) codes. They have good bit error rate (BER) performance at high code rate. It is relatively simple to implement the encoder of TPC and the decoding complexity of their decoder is reasonable. Therefore, TPC are widely used in various places such as satellite communication systems and data storage systems. In this paper, a parallel TPC decoder based on GPUs is proposed. All rows or columns of the two-dimensional product code matrix are decoded simultaneously in this proposed decoder. A parallel elementary decoder is designed to simplify the decoding process of TPC which are constructed by extended Hamming codes. The calculations of test patterns and valid codewords are parallelled to reduce decoding latency. In order to further improve the decoding throughput, we present the multi-channels TPC decoder. The performance of the parallel decoder is measured on different GPUs. The experiment result shows that the decoding latency is reduced significantly compared with the TPC decoder based on a CPU. In addition, throughputs of proposed GPU decoder achieve 30Mbps on Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti and 38 Mbps on Nvidia Titan V, which are 44 times and 54 times of the CPU-based decoder. © 2019 IEEE.

Correlation-based software search by leveraging software term database

Internet-scale open source software （OSS） pro- duction in various communities generates abundant reusable resources for software developers. However, finding the de- sired and mature software with keyword queries from a considerable number of candidates, especially for the fresher, is a significant challenge because current search services often fail to understand the semantics of user queries. In this paper, we construct a software term database （STDB） by analyzing tagging data in Stack Overflow and propose a correlationbased software search （CBSS） approach that performs correlation retrieval based on the term relevance obtained from STDB. In addition, we design a novel ranking method to optimize the initial retrieval result. We explore four research questions in four experiments, respectively, to evaluate the effectiveness of the STDB and investigate the performance of the CBSS. The experiment results show that the proposed CBSS can effectively respond to keyword-based software searches and significantly outperforms other existing search services at finding mature software.

Analysis of single-event transient sensitivity in fully depleted silicon-on-insulator MOSFETs

Based on 3 D-TCAD simulations, single-event transient(SET) effects and charge collection mechanisms in fully depleted silicon-on-insulator(FDSOI) transistors are investigated. This work presents a comparison between28-nm technology and 0.2-lm technology to analyze the impact of strike location on SET sensitivity in FDSOI devices. Simulation results show that the most SET-sensitive region in FDSOI transistors is the drain region near the gate. An in-depth analysis shows that the bipolar amplification effect in FDSOI devices is dependent on the strike locations. In addition, when the drain contact is moved toward the drain direction, the most sensitive region drifts toward the drain and collects more charge. This provides theoretical guidance for SET hardening.
