A novel approach for radionuclide diffusion in the enclosed environment of a marine nuclear reactor during a severe accident

A severe accident in a marine nuclear reactor leads to radionuclide leakage,which causes hidden dangers to workers and has adverse effects of environmental *** is necessary to propose a novel approach to radionuclide diffusion in a confined environment after a severe accident in a marine nuclear ***,this study proposes a new method for the severe accident analysis program MELCOR coupled with computational fluid dynamics scSTREAM to study radioactive diffusion in severe *** radionuclide release fraction and temperature calculated by MELCOR were combined with the scSTREAM calculations to study the radionuclide diffusion behavior and the phenomenon of radionuclide diffusion in different space environments of the reactor under the conditions of varying wind velocities of the ventilation system and diffusion *** results show that the wind velocity of the ventilation system is very small or zero,and the turbulent diffusion of radionuclides is not obvious and diffuses slowly in the form of condensation sedimentation and gravity *** the wind speed of the ventilation system increases,the flow of radionuclides meets the wall and forms eddy currents,affecting the time variation of radionuclides diffusing into chamber *** wind velocity of the ventilation system and the diffusion speed has opposite effects on the time variation trend of radionuclide diffusion into the four chambers.

To enhance the control effectiveness of hybrid magnetic bearings (HMBs), this paper proposes a PSO-based fuzzy PID control algorithm. The algorithm optimizes the fuzzy controller's output parameters using the Particle Swarm Optimization technique, effectively addressing the limitations caused by fixed parameters and improving control accuracy. The effectiveness of the PSO algorithm optimization is verified through simulations of a hybrid magnetic bearing system built in Simulink. Compared to the fuzzy PID control algorithm, this method demonstrates a faster response and smaller overshoot, achieving better results in controlling the vibration displacement of rotors supported by hybrid magnetic bearings. © 2024 SPIE.

In a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA), reactor core temperatures can rise rapidly, leading to potential fuel damage and radioactive material release. This research presents a groundbreaking method that combines the power of Monte Carlo Sampling and Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) to simulate and effectively address the challenging Loss of Coolant Accidents (LOCA) in nuclear reactors. In the event of a LOCA, reactor core temperatures can soar rapidly, posing a significant threat to fuel integrity and potentially leading to the release of radioactive materials. By leveraging the strengths of both Monte Carlo Sampling and PINNs, this approach aims to provide a comprehensive and accurate simulation framework for assessing and mitigating the consequences of such accidents. The method yields high prediction accuracy (MAE: 0.033, RMSE: 0.098, R2: 0.814) and demonstrates robustness through transfer learning, maintaining strong performance (MAE: 0.064, RMSE: 0.163, R2: 0.735). © 2024 IEEE.

Aiming at the need to solve the problem of complex interaction of parameters and difficulty in determining the combination strength in the combination test of the digital I&C system of nuclear power plants, a method for generating a set of variable strength combination test cases based on a contract model is proposed. First, analyze the relationship between input parameters and output parameters from the constructed contract model, determine the actual interaction relationship of the system, and adopt the variable strength combination test case generation method based on the In-Parameter-Order strategy to achieve full coverage of the actual interaction relationship between components, and use contractual constraints to further reduce the scale of test data. Finally, the algorithm is applied to the test of nuclear power plant core temperature measurement system. The results show that the proposed algorithm has certain advantages in test data scale, coverage and error detection ability. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

There are many multiphase flow phenomena in steam generators (SG) of nuclear power plants (NPPs) and the movement of droplets affects the separation efficiency of dryers in SG. And the most important factor affecting droplet movement is drag force on droplet. Drag force coefficient (DRC) and deformation coefficient (DEC) as characterization coefficient of drag force have important research significance. In this paper, water and silicone oil are used as continuous phase and dispersed phase, respectively. Study on variation of the DRC when Re is in the range of 30-1200 is carried out. Firstly, the motion of droplets (MDs) of different sizes is visually studied by using the high-speed camera and images of MD is acquired. The droplet contour is recognized based on principle of boundary differentiation and the centroid coordinates of the droplet are determined, thus DRC and DEC are obtained. Besides, the relationship between DRC and DEC are researched. Additionally, Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) is used to simulate the droplet motion. The simulation results are compared with the experimental results, thus verifying the feasibility of LBM method to simulate the MD. The results show that when velocity of droplet (VD) is low, DRC is inversely proportional to VD. While VD is high, DRC is constant. When the droplet diameter (DD) is small, the final VD is proportional to DD, and when DD is large, the final VD is proportional to the square of DD. The DEC is linearly related to We. The larger the We, the smaller the DEC. Shan-Chen model of LBM is feasible for droplets with low Reynolds number (Re), while the simulation of droplets with high Re is the future prospect. © 2022 by ASME.

The method of characteristics (MoC) has become an accepted tool for lattice physics calculations. MoC has many advantages such as accurate representations of both the lattice geometry and the boundary conditions. The flat source (FS) approximation is most commonly used, and the linear source (LS) approximation can improve the accuracy by preserving higher order spatial moments of the neutron source. However, as a non-standard spatial discretization method, the order of accuracy of the spatial discretization is more difficult to obtain, especially for analyzing linear source approximation, because the MoC method utilizes two sets of spatial meshes - the FS mesh and the set of characteristic rays that integrate the transport equation over the FS mesh. In this work, we analyze the order of accuracy with spatial resolution in MoC in planar geometry for both FS and LS approximations and verify our predictions with the Method of Manufactured Solutions (MMS). It is shown that the flat source approximation is second order accurate and that the linear source approximation has a fourth order accuracy. © 2023 by JSME.

In recent years, the virtual reality technique has been widely used in many fields. One of the most popular applications is for generating virtual models that can be operated on the screen. In the paper, three methods of obtaining virtual models are introduced. One method is by scanning the quick response code. Another method is the use of CADbro software. The third way is to develop an app to help the digital world emerge in real-life scenarios. With the help of virtual technology, ways of teaching, modes of production, and film production are changing. The three methods mentioned in the paper make it easy to generate virtual models for people to operate on mobile devices. Virtual models generated by the three methods can be operated by touching the screen or operating the mouse, whenever and wherever. © 2024 The Authors.
