We propose a fundamental theorem for eco-environmental surface modelling(FTEEM) in order to apply it into the fields of ecology and environmental science more easily after the fundamental theorem for Earth’s surface system modeling(FTESM). The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH) region is taken as a case area to conduct empirical studies of algorithms for spatial upscaling, spatial downscaling, spatial interpolation, data fusion and model-data assimilation, which are based on high accuracy surface modelling(HASM), corresponding with corollaries of FTEEM. The case studies demonstrate how eco-environmental surface modelling is substantially improved when both extrinsic and intrinsic information are used along with an appropriate method of HASM. Compared with classic algorithms, the HASM-based algorithm for spatial upscaling reduced the root-meansquare error of the BTH elevation surface by 9 m. The HASM-based algorithm for spatial downscaling reduced the relative error of future scenarios of annual mean temperature by 16%. The HASM-based algorithm for spatial interpolation reduced the relative error of change trend of annual mean precipitation by 0.2%. The HASM-based algorithm for data fusion reduced the relative error of change trend of annual mean temperature by 70%. The HASM-based algorithm for model-data assimilation reduced the relative error of carbon stocks by 40%. We propose five theoretical challenges and three application problems of HASM that need to be addressed to improve FTEEM.

Continuous and accurate monitoring of agricultural landscapes is crucial for understanding crop phenology and responding to climatic and anthropogenic changes. However, the widely used optical satellite remote sensing is limited by revisit cycles and weather conditions, leading to gaps in agricultural monitoring. To address these limitations, we designed and deployed a Near Surface Camera (NSCam) Network across China, and explored its application in agricultural land monitoring and achieving climate-smart agriculture (CSA). By analyzing the image data captured by the NSCam Network, we can accurately assess long-term or abrupt agricultural land changes. According to the preliminary monitoring results, integrating NSCam data with remote sensing imagery greatly enhances the temporal details and accuracy of agricultural monitoring, aiding agricultural managers in making informed decisions. The impacts of abnormal weather conditions and human activities on agricultural land, which are not captured by remote sensing imagery, can be complemented by incorporating our NSCam Network. The successful implementation of this method underscores its potential for broader application in CSA, promoting resilient and sustainable agricultural practices.

The Alternating Directions Methods of Multipliers (ADMM) are widely used in many fields of scientific computing in recent years. This method applies iterative computation to the information exchange between individual agent and neighbor. However, despite the success of traditional centralized ADMM in some application environments, its applicability is limited in global convergence center by its communication requirements. In our paper, we provide the linear convergence rate for this distributed consensus optimization problem, which satisfies strongly convex local objective functions. Then, the properties of the local objective function and the parameters of the algorithm, the theoretical convergence rate is given according to the network topology.

Identification of complicated quantum environments lies in the core of quantum engineering, which systematically constructs an environment model with the aim of accurate control of quantum systems. In this paper, we present an inverse-system method to identify damping rate functions, which describe non-Markovian environments in time-convolution-less master equations. To access information on the environment, we couple a finite-level quantum system to the environment and measure time traces of local observables of the system. By using sufficient measurement results, an algorithm is designed, which can simultaneously estimate multiple damping rate functions for different dissipative channels. Further, we show that identifiability for the damping rate functions corresponds to the invertibility of the system and a necessary condition for identifiability is also given. The effectiveness of our method is shown in examples of an atom and three-spin-chain non-Markovian systems.

In federated learning (FL), model training is distributed over clients and local models are aggregated by a central server. The performance of uploaded models in such situations can vary widely due to imbalanced data distributions, potential demands on privacy protections, and quality of transmissions. In this paper, we aim to minimize FL training delay over wireless channels, constrained by overall training performance as well as each client's differential privacy (DP) requirement. We solve this problem in the framework of multi-agent multiarmed bandit (MAMAB) to deal with the situation where there are multiple clients confornting different unknown transmission environments, e.g., channel fading and interferences. Specifically, we first transform the long-term constraints on both training performance and each client's DP into a virtual queue based on the Lyapunov drift technique. Then, we convert the MAMAB to a max-min bipartite matching problem at each communication round, by estimating rewards with the upper confidence bound (UCB) approach. More importantly, we propose two efficient solutions to this matching problem, i.e., modified Hungarian algorithm and greedy matching with a better alternative (GMBA), in which the first one can achieve the optimal solution with a high complexity while the second one approaches a better tradeoff by enabling a verified low-complexity with little performance loss. In addition, we develop an upper bound on the expected regret of this MAMAB based FL framework, which shows a linear growth over the logarithm of communication rounds, justifying its theoretical feasibility. Extensive experimental results are conducted to validate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithms, and the impacts of various parameters on the FL performance over wireless edge networks are also discussed. Rail transportation, especially, high-speed rails (HSR), is an important infrastructure for the development of national economy and the promotion of passenger experience. Due to the large bandwidth, millimeter wave (mmWave) communication is regarded as a promising technology to meet the demand of high data rates. However, since mmWave communication has the characteristic of high attenuation, mobile relay (MR) is considered in this paper. Also, full-duplex (FD) communications have been proposed to improve the spectral efficiency. However, because of the high speed, as well as the problem of penetration loss, passengers on the train have a poor quality of service. Consequently, an effective user association scheme for HSR in mmWave band is necessary. In this paper, we investigate the user association optimization problem in mmWave mobile relay systems where the MRs operate in the FD mode. To maximize the system capacity, we propose a cooperative user association approach based on coalition formation game, and develop a coalition formation algorithm to solve the challenging NP-hard problem. We also prove the convergence and Nash-stable property of the proposed algorithm. Extensive simulations are done to show the system performance of the proposed scheme under various network settings. It is demonstrated that the proposed distributed low complexity scheme achieves a near-optimal performance and outperforms two baseline schemes in terms of average system throughput. Salient object detection with lossless feature reflection and weighted structural loss

Salient object detection (SOD), which aims to identify and locate the most salient pixels or regions in images, has been attracting more and more interest due to its various real-world applications. However, this vision task is quite challenging, especially under complex image scenes. Inspired by the intrinsic reflection of natural images, in this paper we propose a novel feature learning framework for large-scale salient object detection. Specifically, we design a symmetrical fully convolutional network (SFCN) to effectively learn complementary saliency features under the guidance of lossless feature reflection. The location information, together with contextual and semantic information, of salient objects are jointly utilized to supervise the proposed network for more accurate saliency predictions. In addition, to overcome the blurry boundary problem, we propose a new weighted structural loss function to ensure clear object boundaries and spatially consistent saliency. The coarse prediction results are effectively refined by these structural information for performance improvements. Extensive experiments on seven saliency detection datasets demonstrate that our approach achieves consistently superior performance and outperforms the very recent state-of-the-art methods with a large margin. The purpose of this paper is to design a coherent feedback controller for a Markovian jump linear quantum system suffering from a fault signal. The control objective is to bound the effect of the disturbance input on the output for the time-varying quantum system. We prove the relation between the H ∞ control problem, the dissipation properties, and the solutions of Riccati differential equations, by which the H ∞ controller of the Markovian jump linear quantum system is given by the solutions of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs).
