Demonstration of 60 GHz millimeter-wave short-range wireless communication system at 3.5 Gbps over 5 m range

Millimeter-wave communication has received considerable attention for use in new-generation broadband wireless communication because of the scarcity of microwave band spectrum resources. The unlicensed frequency band at 60 GHz is suitable for indoor short-range broadband communication. In this paper, we introduce a 60 GHz millimeter-wave short-range wireless communication demo system adhering to the IEEE 802.11 ad standard and targeting high-definition video streaming transmission. The system uses single-carrier transmission with frequency-domain equalization. The hardware prototype consists of a 65-nm CMOS radio-frequency front-end and a baseband transceiver for the physical layer functions. Important baseband technologies such as carrier synchronization, phase noise compensation, frequency-domain equalization, and low-density parity-check decoding based on probability calculation are also discussed. The system performance is demonstrated in an experiment on high-definition video transmission, where a data rate of 3.52 Gbps is achieved with a quadrature phase-shift keying signal over a distance of 5.109 m.

Background Acute lower respiratory infections (ALRIs) caused by respiratory viruses are common and persistent infectious diseases worldwide and in China, which have pronounced seasonal patterns. Meteorological factors have important roles in the seasonality of some major viruses, especially respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza virus. Our aim was to identify the dominant meteorological factors and to model their effects on common respiratory viruses in different regions of China. Methods We analysed monthly virus data on patients hospitalised with ALRI from 81 sentinel hospitals in 22 provinces in mainland China from Jan 1, 2009, to Sept 30, 2013. We considered seven common respiratory viruses: RSV, influenza virus, human parainfluenza virus, adenovirus, human metapneumovirus, human bocavirus, and human coronavirus. Meteorological data of the same period were used to analyse relationships between virus seasonality and seven meteorological factors according to region (southern vs northern China). The geographical detector method was used to quantify the explanatory power of each meteorological factor, individually and interacting in pairs, on the respiratory viruses. Findings 28 369 hospitalised patients with ALRI were tested, 10 387 (36·6%) of whom were positive for at least one virus, including RSV (4091 [32·0%] patients), influenza virus (2665 [20·8%]), human parainfluenza virus (2185 [17·1%]), adenovirus (1478 [11·6%]), human bocavirus (1120 [8·8%]), human coronavirus (637 [5·0%]), and human metapneumovirus (615 [4·8%]). RSV and influenza virus had annual peaks in the north and biannual peaks in the south. Human parainfluenza virus and human bocavirus had higher positive rates in the spring–summer months. Human metapneumovirus had an annual peak in winter–spring, especially in the north. Adenovirus and human coronavirus exhibited no clear annual seasonality. In this paper, the circuit parameters of the Class-E power amplifier are investigated and optimized to achieve the maximum of output power and efficiency in a two-coil Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) system. The circuit is simulated with software named Saber. Working frequency, the value of capacitors and inductor, which has relationship with the output power and efficiency, are investigated during the simulation. With the simulation results, it is found that the frequency and the shunt capacitor need to be optimized for high performance of the wireless power transfer system.

We presented a combination of a new coding technique called Multi Slot Amplitude Coding(MSAC). By jointing Optisystem and Matlab, the coding and decoding of MSAC, Duty Cycle Division Multiplexing(DCDM) and Absolute Polar Duty Cycle Division Multiplexing(APDCDM) all are achieved in a same Free Space Optical(FSO) communication system. By comparing average energy of each symbol, different mapping rules of MSAC are compared. The simulation results of a 3-tributaries FSO system shows that MSAC can adapt to different systems and weather environment by using optimized mapping rule. Besides, at the same aggregate bit rate of 3×10 Gbps, MSAC gives a spectral width of 60 GHz, which is 25% reduction than DCDM.

The main goal of this paper studies modeling of a direct current coaxial motor (DCCM) and testing the main parameters of DCCM on the experimental model. The DCCM contains two rotors named inner runner and outer runner. The inner runner and the outer runner rotate in opposite directions to each other. The shaft of the inner runner and the shaft of the outer runner are coincident and inserted on two separate bearings. To prove this idea, the mathematic model is achieved by a combination of a mathematic model of DC motor and mathematic model of single phase coaxial motor. Simulation result of the mathematic model in Matlab shows the truth of the hypothesis of the design. The result of testing DCCM of the experimental model is fit to the result of simulation of DCCM in Matlab. Consequently, the DCCM can substitute for other kinds of propellers especially in marine applications.

Chimera states in spatiotemporal dynamical systems have been investigated in physical, chemical, and biological systems, and have been shown to be robust against random perturbations. How do chimera states achieve their robustness? We uncover a self-adaptation behavior by which, upon a spatially localized perturbation, the coherent component of the chimera state spontaneously drifts to an optimal location as far away from the perturbation as possible, exposing only its incoherent component to the perturbation to minimize the disturbance. A systematic numerical analysis of the evolution of the spatiotemporal pattern of the chimera state towards the optimal stable state reveals an exponential relaxation process independent of the spatial location of the perturbation, implying that its effects can be modeled as restoring and damping forces in a mechanical system and enabling the articulation of a phenomenological model. Not only is the model able to reproduce the numerical results, it can also predict the trajectory of drifting. Our finding is striking as it reveals that, inherently, chimera states possess a kind of “intelligence” in achieving robustness through self-adaptation. The behavior can be exploited for the controlled generation of chimera states with their coherent component placed in any desired spatial region of the system.

As for a pipe-line system subjected to complex operations, an approach is proposed to synthesize the controller via Petri nets (PNs) such that the plant is run as concurrently as possible and the loads of equipments are balanced. A P-timed and labeled PN is designed to model the whole process of a pipe-line system, where tasks, including transporting material from one tank to another and cleaning tank, are represented by operational places, and level sensors amounted in tanks are represented by labels assigned to transitions. Further, monitor places are designed to resolve the conflict relations among tasks due to the shared valves and pipes. An method is presented to translate an PN controller into a CIF3 (Compositional Interchange Format) model, which can be converted into a PLC program in the CIF3 tool. A beer filtration plant is taken as an example to illustrate the approach, and its simulation experiments are carried out to verify the theoretic results.

In order to improve the robustness of laser triangulation to detect the liquid level of silicon melt, this paper firstly proposes a method of calculating the laser spot coordinates based on the voting mechanism. The vote is taken according to the coordinates of small laser spots, which are formed by the effect of liquid surface fluctuation on the line laser in the liquid level measurement image. Secondly, the Kalman filter method is used to correct the liquid level measurement data and compensate the missing data. Then the linear conversion is performed to obtain the liquid level value. Finally, the experimental results show that this method can effectively improve the robustness of the liquid level measurement by the laser triangulation method, and avoid the generation of impulse noise. The introduction of the Kalman filter can accurately correct the level measurement data and compensate for missing data.
