Flow and thermal modeling of liquid metal in expanded microchannel heat sink

Liquid metal-based microchannel heat sinks (MCHSs) suffer from the low heat capacity of coolant, resulting in an excessive temperature rise of coolant and heat sink when dealing with high-power heat dissipation. In this paper, it was found that expanded space at the top of fins could distribute the heat inside microchannels, reducing the temperature rise of coolant and heat sink. The orthogonal experiments revealed that expanding the top space of channels yielded similar temperature reductions to changing the channel width. The flow and thermal modeling of expanded microchannel heat sink (E-MCHS) were analyzed by both using the 3-dimensional (3D) numerical simulation and the 1-dimensional (1D) thermal resistance model. The fin efficiency of E-MCHS was derived to improve the accuracy of the 1D thermal resistance model. The heat conduction of liquid metal in Z direction and the heat convection between the top surface of fins and the liquid metal could reduce the total thermal resistance (Rt). The above process was effective for microchannels with low channel aspect ratio, low mean velocity (Um) or long heat sink length. The maximum thermal resistance reduction in the example of this paper reached 36.0%. The expanded space endowed the heat sink with lower pressure, which might further reduce the pumping power (P). This rule was feasible both when fins were truncated (h_(2) < 0, h_(2) is the height of expanded channel for E-MCHS) and when over plate was raised (h_(2) > 0).

A distributed fault-tolerant formation control law is designed in this paper for multi-agent systems under external disturbances and actuator faults including time-varying loss of effectiveness faults. The initial position of each agent is already on a circle and the control purpose is to form a desired formation on this circle. Based on this local information, a distributed adaptive formation control law is designed by employing the congelation of variables method to deal with time-varying actuator faults. Finally, a simulation example is given to verify the effectiveness of the adaptive fault-tolerant control design method. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the integration of IT and OT, cyberattacks against ICS have been on the rise recently, and more and more advanced methods are resorted to by attackers to break down the physical system. To do further research in cybersecurity on ICS, building a cyber range is an economical, practical, and necessary approach considering the requirements of availability for the onsite production devices. Using all physical devices to build a cyber range is unrealistic and inflexible due to the high cost while pure software simulation lacks authenticity. Meanwhile, digital twin, a prevalent concept in recent years, shows its potential in ICS cyber ranges for its authenticity and flexibility due to the improvements in modeling methods and network communication. Therefore, the framework, implementation methods, and applications of using digital twin technology to build an ICS cyber range are discussed in this paper. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This paper focuses on voltage control for a dynamic wireless charging system of electric vehicles based on an extended state observer. Each dynamic wireless charging system will suffer from complex disturbances, leading to the challenge of output voltage control. To address this issue, we propose a disturbance rejection control scheme that utilizes an extended state observer to estimate the unknown disturbances. A dynamic sliding-mode surface is designed to suppress estimation error, and a sliding mode control law based on the estimated information and sliding-mode surface is proposed to accurately track the expected voltage. We prove the stability of the closed-loop system, and simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed disturbance rejection control scheme for dynamic wireless charging systems based on the extended state observer. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper,a radial basis function neural network(RBFNN) based active disturbance rejection control(ADRC)scheme is proposed for continuous-time systems with unknown nonlinear dynamics and time-varying *** using RBFNN to online approximate the unknown nonlinear dynamics,a novel nonlinear extended state observer(ESO) is firstly designed to estimate the total disturbance consisting of time-varying external disturbance and RBFNN approximation ***,an anti-disturbance feedback control law together with a tracking differentiator is designed to counteract the total disturbance in a feedforward *** bounded convergence of the closed-loop system and ESO as well as the estimation errors of the weighting vector are rigorously analyzed based on the Lyapunov stability theory.A case study is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness and merit of the proposed design,in contrast to the conventional ADRC.

Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm is widely used in unmanned and robotic applications. SLAM usually uses sensor data, which are from the LiDAR, the inertial measurement unit (IMU) and the wheeled odometry, to build maps of the surrounding environment. However, the motion distortion of LiDAR data and the error accumulation of wheeled odometry can affect the accuracy of the front-end odometry of the SLAM algorithm, which can lead to serious errors in the maps created. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of poor map construction results of SLAM algorithm due to various types of sensor errors. we propose the traceless Kalman filtering based (UKF-based) multi-sensor data processing algorithm. Firstly, the proposed algorithm uses the UKF to fuse IMU and wheeled odometry data to reduce the cumulative error of wheeled odometry. And then the algorithm uses IMU and corrected wheeled odometry data and combines with the motion states of the robot to solve the motion distortion problem of LiDAR data. Finally, we verified the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for wheeled odometry data correction in Gazebo simulation environment and real environment experiments, and compared the mapping effectiveness of SLAM by using the original data and the data processed by our algorithm. The experimental results show that the map construction effect of SLAM algorithm is significantly improved when using the sensor data processed by the algorithm. Experimental validation on the robot shows that the proposed algorithm has universal applicability and good compatibility. © 2023 IEEE.

Proteomic analysis of pathogen-responsive proteins from maize stem apoplast triggered by Fusarium verticillioides

During the attack of a pathogen, a variety of defense-associated proteins are released by the host plant in the apoplast to impede the perceived attack. This study utilized the mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS) and label-free quantification method to analyze the apoplastic fluid(APF) from maize stalk and identified the proteins responsive to the Fusarium verticillioides infection. We have identified 742 proteins, and among these, 119 proteins were differentially accumulated(DAPs), i.e., 35 up-regulated, 18 down-regulated, and 66 proteins were only induced by the pathogen infection. The differentially accumulated proteins were analyzed for their Gene Ontology(GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genomes(KEGG) pathway enrichment. The highly enriched Biological process(BP) term was the L-serine biosynthesis process, whereas the most enriched Molecular Function(MF) term was the cysteine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity. It was also found that the pathways related to the biosynthesis of amino acid, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, and carbohydrate metabolic pathways were significantly enriched. Moreover, 61 out of 119 differentially accumulated proteins were predicted as secretory proteins. The secretory pathways analysis showed that a greater number of proteins were secreted through the conventional secretion system compared to the unconventional secretion system. The identified secreted proteins were related to a variety of pathways in defense responses including cell redox homeostasis, cell wall modification, signal transduction, carbohydrate metabolism, binding proteins(metal ion binding, RNA binding and heme-binding), maintenance and stabilization of other proteins, indicating a complex response from the plant to the fungal infection. Our data suggested that a number of host proteins belonging to various pathways have been modulated in the apoplastic region.

Cloud detection can address data quality and analytical accuracy issues caused by cloud cover in satellite imagery, significantly enhancing image usability. Existing cloud detection methods still have the problem of detecting a certain amount of ground and sea surface as clouds, as well as some cloud regions that are missed, resulting in a decrease in the accuracy of cloud detection. Aiming at the above problems, an interactive cloud detection method based on Dynamic Mode Decomposition is proposed. Based on the fact that clouds are constantly moving, the dynamic mode decomposition can be utilized to detect the characteristics of moving objects, and the dynamic clouds are detected, avoiding the detection of the ground and sea surface as clouds. Although static clouds rarely appear, to ensure the robustness of the algorithm, we design an interactive static cloud detection algorithm for the users, which solve the problem of missed detection and further improves the accuracy of cloud detection. To assess the effectiveness of the algorithm, the four different types of clouds of floccus, undulatus, vortex clouds, and stratocumulus are detected, the experimental outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the algorithm. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). The project manager's role and influence on the project's overall outcome have fascinated many academicians, researchers, and practitioners. The project manager's leadership and human skills play a vital role in the project's outcome;therefore, it is imperative for these competencies to be identified, learned, and leadership styles to be adopted. This study aims to define the most relevant competencies to multidimensional project success and their interrelationship. The quantitative method was used by applying a survey to project managers and team members working in the public sector of Pakistan. The results suggest that a combination of emotional, managerial intelligence, and transformational leadership are stronger predictors of multidimensional public project success. This study has shown that management and leadership need to be integrated to achieve better results. Project managers need to combine soft and hard skills, leadership competencies, and management to engage with people and be effective in terms of processes, tasks, and objectives. © 1973-2011 IEEE.
