The problem of robust control for discrete time-delay systems with norm-bounded uncertainties was studied. A new sufficient condition of delay-dependent robust stabilizability was derived by introducing a zero formula and free weighting matrices. An explicit expression of the desired controller was also developed based on the solution of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Without any system transformation or inequalities to estimate the upper bound of the cross terms in the forward difference of Lyapunov functional, the corresponding conservatism on the stability condition is reduced. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of design procedure

For systems described by controlled auto-regressive integrated moving average model, a novel variable structure control (VSC) strategy based on general sliding mode prediction is presented. By creating a special sliding mode prediction model, introducing a suitable reference sliding mode trajectory, and combining with general predictive control (GPC) approach, the variable structure control law is constructed. Simulation results illustrate that the closed-loop systems have the advantages of VSC and GPC, while relief the drawbacks of VSC. Such as the systems have strong robustness, the systems states have fast convergence, the control signals in the systems are optimal, the disgusting chattering phenomena is eliminated, and the algorithm is convenient to deal with time-delay

The finite precision nature of digital hardware makes it necessary to consider the effects of finite wordlength (FWL) when performing a controller design. Most studies on these issues only consider the optimal FWL implementation for a given controller without regard to the controller synthesis. It is known that such "optimal realization" is not optimal overall. In this paper, the direct methods for FWL controller synthesis and realization are addressed. The effects of finite wordlength are taken into account when the controller is synthesized thus the closed loop with FWL controller also meets some desired performance objectives. An FWL H infin controller design problem is presented. A numerical example is included to verify the theoretical analysis and to illustrate the proposed design procedure

Based on genetic algorithm and schedule theory, a two dimension coding genetic algorithm is presented for solving the NP-hard single machine total weighted completion time problem with controllable processing times. When the mathematic model is given, the two dimension coding method is proposed to describe the job sequence and actual processing time. Because of the problem's characters, the new crossover and mutation operations of GA are defined. The two dimension coding GA not only can start with better initial populations, but also can reach the solutions more precise and faster. Applying it to the example, the simulation results show that satisfactory performance is obtained

To simplify the complexities of the evaluation of the optimal production control policy for hybrid stochastic production systems, a new method, called hierarchical varying receding-horizon (HVRH) policy, is initiated. By defining one-times-production of the system, the discounted cost stochastic control proposition over the infinite horizon is simplified to a varying finite horizon discounted cost stochastic control proposition, and the associated HJB equation is also gotten according to the setup sequence and stochastic breakdown of the equipment. Based on evaluating the trajectory of surplus under expectation meaning and the idea of just-in-time, the HVRH policy is actualized by varying receding-horizon optimization sliding on one dimension, which can avoid solving partial differential equations directly and large dynamic programming problems, and makes the policy tractable. Two examples illustrate and confirm the method.

Combining inverse system method and support vector machines (SVM), the paper presents an alphath-order inverse system method based on SVM for general nonlinear MIMO discrete systems. The nonlinear offline inverse model of the controlled plant is built by SVM with the radial basis function (RBF) kernel. Cascading SVM alphath-order inversion with the original system can form a pseudo-linear system. So the traditional linear system methods can be used in a nonlinear system. Simulations demonstrate that even without prior information about the plant, the method presented can accurately model the inverse dynamic system of the plant. This method can apply to general nonlinear MIMO discrete systems, and can be easily implemented for engineering

FTU (Feeder Terminal Unit) is an important device of distribution automation system, always working in bad environment. Its power dissipation and related thermal issues affect the lifetime of circuit component. When blackout in power grid comes forth, FTU will be working normally powered by the battery. Reducing the power of FTU can increase the normally working time and then increase the power grid's reliability. Traditionally, studies on energy reduction techniques of FTU have been conducted in the circuit design. Based on these previous studies, a system level low power static real-time scheduling algorithm of mixed tasks is proposed for FTU in this paper. The simulation experiment shows that this algorithm can decrease the FTU power consumption effectively. © 2006 IEEE.

Real-time database applied in process industry requests the performance of mass data and high speed. So the process data in database must be compressed effectively and reliably. According to process data characteristic, a lossless compression algorithm was designed based on LZW algorithm and RLE algorithm. The compression algorithm first classified process data by characteristic, and then different compression methods were designed for all kinds of data. In order to increase compression radio, pretreatment approaches were implemented before compression. The compression algorithm solved the difficulties of low compression radio and compression speed. Performance test shows that this algorithm obviously improved the real-time performance and efficiency when accessing the process database. It will be widely applied in MES and PCS

The Kill model of the chaotic dynamics of the olfactory system was designed to simulate pattern classification required for odor perception. It was evaluated by simulating the patterns of action potentials and EEG waveforms observed in electrophysiological experiments. It differs from conventional artificial neural networks in relying on a landscape of chaotic attractors for its memory system and on a high-dimensional trajectory in state space for virtually instantaneous access to any low-dimensional attractor. Here we adapted this novel neural network as a diagnostic tool to classify normal and hypoxic EEGs. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2006.
