Product quality and operation cost control obtain increasing emphases in modern chemical system engineering. To improve the fault detection power of the partial least square (PLS) method for quality control, a new QRPV statistic is proposed in terms of the VP (variable importance in projection) indices of monitored process variables, which is significantly advanced over and different from the conventional Q statistic. QRPV is calculated only by the residuals of the remarkable process variables (RPVs). Therefore, it is the dominant relation between quality and RPV not all process variables (as in the case of the conventional PLS) that is monitored by this new VP-PLS (VPLS) method. The combination of QRPV and T2 statistics is applied to the quality and cost control of the Tennessee Eastman (TE) process, and weak faults can be detected as quickly as possible. Consequently, the product quality of TE process is guaranteed and operation costs are reduced.

A reverse net does not cause too much attention in the net theory research since it only changes the arcs' directions of original nets and does not change the state space. However it has some applications in the supervisory control theory of discrete event systems: a) computation of the weakly forbidden marking set, and b) computation of the state feedback control policy. Enlightened by distribution of creatures in natural ecology environment, the distribution population-based genetic algorithm (DPGA) is presented in this paper. The searching capability of the algorithm is improved by competition between distribution populations to reduce the search zone. This method is applied to design of optimal parameters of PID controllers with examples, and the simulation results show that satisfactory performances are obtained.

Used for industrialprocess with different degree of nonlinearity, the two predictive control algorithms presented in this paper are based on Least Squares Support Vector Machines (LS-SVM) model. For the weakly nonlinear system, the system model is built by using LS-SVM with linear kernel function, and then the obtained linear LS-SVM model is transformed into linear input-output relation of the controlled system. However, for the strongly nonlinear system, the off-line model of the controlled system is built by using LS-SVM with Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel. The obtained nonlinear LS-SVM model is linearized at each sampling instant of system running, after which the on-line linear input-output model of the system is built. Based on the obtained linear input-output model, the Generalized Predictive control (GPC) algorithm is employed to implement predictive control for the controlled plant in both algorithms. The simulation results after the presented algorithms were implemented in two different industrialprocesses model; respectively revealed the effectiveness and merit of both algorithms.

The existing definition of support was improved by adopting a new definition based on distance. Then classified fuzzy association rules mining model (CFARMM) was proposed. It takes association rule mining techniques applicable to classification tasks by introducing the concept of the target variable of decision tree. CFARMM is not only widely applicable in industrial production process and real life, but also easily realized as compared with shopping baskets association rules mining problem. Finally, CFARMM was applied to mine the real aromatic hydrocarbon extraction process. Through the data mining of historical process, the reasons that recovery rate decreased, and energy loss increased when the feed components varied were found.

Based on a novel robust integral sliding mode surface (RISM), method of designing nonlinear robust sliding mode control is presented. Firstly, the closed-loop system under the sliding mode is proved to be asymptotically stable by using Lyapunov stability theories. Then variable structure control (VSC) is constructed to ensure the reachability of the sliding surface. Robustness of the closed-loop system in the whole state space is obtained. Finally, numerical simulation results are proposed to test the validity and feasibility of the method.

In this paper, a new discrete variable structure control design approach based on sliding mode prediction algorithm for a class of discrete-time systems is presented. By employing a special model to predict future sliding mode value and an ideal reaching law as reference sliding mode trajectory, and at the same time, combining feedback correction and rolling optimization method which are extensively applied on predictive control strategy, a discrete-time variable structure control law is constructed. Simulation results illustrate that the closed-loop system has desired performance, such as strong robustness, fast convergence and chattering elimination.

The fuzzy neuron hybrid control method is proposed for mold level control of the continuous steel casting in this paper. The dynamic characteristics of the continuous steel casting process is described. To the plant with big uncertainties and grave nonlinearities, the fuzzy neuron hybrid control system is set up and the new model-free controller is designed. In this control system, the fuzzy neuron hybrid controller is constructed by the fuzzy PI controller and the neuron controller, the gain of the neuron controller is tuned by using a fuzzy algorithm. The simulation tests of mold level control are made under various conditions with different casting speeds, new gate valve and old gate valve, changing in the valve position loop gain. The results demonstrate that the new controller has good performance, very strong robustness and adaptability.
