HyperGAC: Information Entropy-Driven Resource Allocation for Cloud-Edge-End computing

Cloud-Edge-End computing provides favorable support for emerging applications by virtue of its low-latency and high reliability. Resource allocation strategies significantly impact the quality of service and response time of cloud-edge-end systems. Due to the decentralized storage of resources, large fluctuations in task demands, and the complexity of cloud-edge-end environments, achieving effective resource allocation remains challenging. Existing resource allocation strategies rely on static models or predefined rules, and cannot flexibly respond to real-time network conditions and changes in task requirements. Consequently, they are limited in achieving optimal resource utilization and effective load balancing. Therefore, this paper proposes an Information Entropy (IE)-driven cloud-edge-end resource allocation mechanism called HyperGAC. First, IE is employed to quantify resource fluctuations, so as to accurately capture the dynamic changes in resource demands. And an Entropy-based Correlation Recurrent Unit (ECRU) is designed to predict server resource utilization. Second, the hypergraph is used to model the complex relationships between resources and tasks, breaking through the limitations of traditional graph structures in multi-dimensional relationships modeling. Finally, the Hypergraph Neural Network (HGNN) is integrated into the actor-critic framework to extract the features from the hypergraph association model, while dynamically optimizing resource allocation strategy based on the prediction results. Experimental results demonstrate that the HyperGAC mechanism significantly improves resource utilization and load balancing performance while effectively reducing the task rejection rate.

RepoLike: a multi-feature-based personalized recommendation approach for open-source repositories

With the deep integration of software collaborative development and social networking, social coding represents a new style of software production and creation paradigm. Because of their good flexibility and openness,a large number of external contributors have been attracted to the open-source communities. They are playing a significant role in open-source development. However, the open-source development online is a globalized and distributed cooperative work. If left unsupervised, the contribution process may result in inefficiency. It takes contributors a lot of time to find suitable projects or tasks from thousands of open-source projects in the communities to work on. In this paper, we propose a new approach called "RepoLike," to recommend repositories for developers based on linear combination and learning to rank. It uses the project popularity, technical dependencies among projects, and social connections among developers to measure the correlations between a developer and the given projects. Experimental results show that our approach can achieve over 25% of hit ratio when recommending 20 candidates, meaning that it can recommend closely correlated repositories to social developers.

Social media in Git Hub: the role of @-mention in assisting software development

Recently, many researches propose that social media tools can promote the collaboration among developers, which are beneficial to the software development. Nevertheless, there is little empirical evidence to confirm that using @-mention has indeed a beneficial impact on the issues in Git Hub. In order to begin investigating such claim, we examine data from two large and successful projects hosted on Git Hub, the Ruby on Rails and the Angular JS. By using qualitative and quantitative analysis, we give an in-depth understanding on how @-mention is used in the issues and the role of @-mention in assisting software development. Our statistical results indicate that, @-mention attracts more participants and tends to be used in the difficult issues. @-mention favors the solving process of issues by enlarging the visibility of issues and facilitating the developers' collaboration. Our study also build an @-network based on the @-mention database we *** the @-network, we investigate its evolution over time and prove that we certainly have the potential to mine the relationships and characteristics of developers by exploiting the knowledge from the @-network.

Minimizing transformer inference overhead using controlling element on Shenwei AI accelerator

Transformer models have become a cornerstone of various natural language processing (NLP) tasks. However, the substantial computational overhead during the inference remains a significant challenge, limiting their deployment in practical applications. In this study, we address this challenge by minimizing the inference overhead in transformer models using the controlling element on artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators. Our work is anchored by four key contributions. First, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of the overhead composition within the transformer inference process, identifying the primary bottlenecks. Second, we leverage the management processing element (MPE) of the Shenwei AI (SWAI) accelerator, implementing a three-tier scheduling framework that significantly reduces the number of host-device launches to approximately 1/10 000 of the original PyTorch-GPU setup. Third, we introduce a zero-copy memory management technique using segment-page fusion, which significantly reduces memory access latency and improves overall inference efficiency. Finally, we develop a fast model loading method that eliminates redundant computations during model verification and initialization, reducing the total loading time for large models from 22 128.31 ms to 1041.72 ms. Our contributions significantly enhance the optimization of transformer models, enabling more efficient and expedited inference processes on AI accelerators.

With the continuous development of software open-sourcing, the reuse of open-source software has led to a significant increase in the occurrence of recurring vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities often arise through the practice of copying and pasting existing vulnerabilities. Many methods have been proposed for detecting recurring vulnerabilities, but they often struggle to ensure both high efficiency and consideration of semantic information about vulnerabilities and patches. In this paper, we introduce FIRE, a scalable method for large-scale recurring vulnerability detection. It utilizes multi-stage filtering and differential taint paths to achieve precise clone vulnerability scanning at an extensive scale. In our evaluation across ten open-source software projects, FIRE demonstrates a precision of 90.0% in detecting 298 recurring vulnerabilities out of 385 ground truth instance. This surpasses the performance of existing advanced recurring vulnerability detection tools, detecting 31.4% more vulnerabilities than VUDDY and 47.0% more than MOVERY. When detecting vulnerabilities in large-scale software, FIRE outperforms MOVERY by saving about twice the time, enabling the scanning of recurring vulnerabilities on an ultra-large scale.

Auxo: an architecture-centric framework supporting the online tuning of software adaptivity

Adaptivity is the capacity of software to adjust itself to changes in its environment. A common approach to achieving adaptivity is to introduce dedicated code during software development stage. However,since those code fragments are designed a priori, self-adaptive software cannot handle situations adequately when the contextual changes go beyond those that are originally anticipated. In this case, the original builtin adaptivity should be tuned. For example, new code should be added to provide the capacity to sense the unexpected environment or to replace outdated adaptation decision logic. The technical challenges in this process, especially that of tuning software adaptivity at runtime, cannot be understated. In this paper,we propose an architecture-centric application framework for self-adaptive software named Auxo. Similar to existing work, our framework supports the development and running of self-adaptive software. Furthermore,our framework supports the tuning of software adaptivity without requiring the running self-adaptive software to be terminated. In short, the architecture style that we are introducing can encapsulate not only general functional logic but also the concerns in the self-adaptation loop(such as sensing, decision, and execution)as architecture elements. As a result, a third party, potentially the operator or an augmented software entity equipped with explicit domain knowledge, is able to dynamically and flexibly adjust the self-adaptation concerns through modifying the runtime software architecture. To truly exercise, validate, and evaluate our approach,we describe a self-adaptive application that was deployed on the framework, and conducted several experiments involving self-adaptation and the online tuning of software adaptivity.

Many nonlinear differential equations arising from practical problems may permit nontrivial multiple solutions relevant to applications, and these multiple solutions are helpful to deeply understand these practical problems and to improve some applications. Developing an efficient numerical method for finding multiple solutions is very necessary due to the nonlinearity and multiple solutions of these equations. Moreover, providing an efficient iteration plays an important role in successfully obtaining multiple solutions with fast and stable convergence. In the current paper, an efficient algorithm for finding multiple solutions of semilinear elliptic systems is proposed, where the trust region Levenberg-Marquardt method is firstly used to iterate the resulted nonlinear algebraic system. When the nonlinear term in these equations has only the first derivative, our algorithm can efficiently find multiple solutions as well.
