We proposed a Ho:GdVO4 laser operating at 2.05 µm which was directly in-band dual-end-pumped by a pair of 1.94 μm fiber-coupled laser diodes (LD). A Ho:GdVO4 crystal with doping of 1.0 at.% was used as the gain medium. In continuous-wave (CW) mode, we obtained the maximum output power of 6.5 W at 2047.9 nm with the absorbed pump power of 28 W, corresponding to a slope efficiency of 37.6 %. By using an LGS crystal as the electro-optical Q-switch, the highest peak power of 773.8 kW was obtained at a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 1 kHz, corresponding to a maximum pulse energy of 3.25 mJ and a pulse width of 4.2ns. © 2023 SPIE.

Atmospheric water harvesting is an emerging strategy for decentralized and potable water supplies. However,water nucleation and microdroplet coalescence on condensing surfaces often result in surface flooding owing to the lack of a sufficient directional driving force for shedding. Herein, inspired by the fascinating properties of lizards and catfish, we present a condensing surface with engineered hydrogel patterns that enable rapid and sustainable water harvesting through the directional pumping and drag-reduced sliding of water droplets. The movement of microscale condensed droplets is synergistically driven by the surface energy gradient and difference in Laplace pressure induced by the arch hydrogel patterns. Meanwhile, the superhydrophilic hydrogel surface can strongly bond inner-layer water molecules to form a lubricant film that reduces drag and facilitates the sliding of droplets off the condensing surface. Thus, this strategy is promising for various water purification techniques based on liquid–vapor phase-change processes.

We utilize molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the microstructures of ions and polyelectrolytes in aqueous solutions under external electric *** focusing on the multi-body interactions between ionic components and H_(2)O molecules,as well as their responses to the external electric fields,we clarify several nontrivial molecular features of the ionic and polyelectrolyte solutions,such as the solvations of cations and anions,clustering of the ions,and dispersions/aggregations of polyelectrolyte chains,as well as the corresponding responses of H_(2)O molecules in these *** simulations illustrate the variations in structures of ionic solutions caused by reversing the charge sign of the ions,and elucidate the disparity in structures between anionic and cationic polyelectrolyte solutions in the presence of the external electric *** work clarifies the mechanism for the alternations in complex multi-body interactions in aqueous solutions caused by the application electric field,which can contribute to the fundamental understanding of the physical and chemical natures of ion-containing and charged polymeric systems.

At present, infrared image can show good detection effect in complex environment because of its unique imaging characteristics, which brings a lot of convenience to people's production and life. However, because the infrared image contains a great lot of unnecessary information, it has great requirements for computing power and memory capacity, so it is challenging to satisfy the demands of real-time detection on resource-constrained portable mobile devices. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a refined lightweight algorithm built upon the YOLOv5, which changes the backbone network of the model to GhostNet network, introduces CA attention mechanism into the model to improve the detection effect of small targets, and changes the loss function of the model to Focal-EIoU loss function to improve the location effect of the boundary box and quicken the model's rate of convergence. Then replace the conventional convolution used in the sampling process of the model with the space-to-depth convolution module, in order to enhance the model's detection performance on low-resolution images and enable the extraction of more feature information. According to the experimental results, the enhanced detection algorithm is just 1% less than the initial YOLOv5 algorithm, and the model volume and floating point calculation are reduced by 31.9% and 36% respectively. This is better suited for deployments that are lightweight. © 2024 SPIE.

Arsenic release from microbial reduction of scorodite in the presence of electron shuttle in flooded soil

Scorodite (FeAsO_(4)·H_(2)O) is a common arsenic-bearing (As-bearing) iron mineral in nearsurface environments that could immobilize or store As in a bound *** flooded soils,microbe induced Fe(Ⅲ) or As(Ⅴ) reduction can increase the mobility and bioavailability of ***,humic substances can act as electron shuttles to promote this *** dynamics of As release and diversity of putative As(Ⅴ)-reducing bacteria during scorodite reduction have yet to be investigated in detail in flooded ***,the microbial reductive dissolution of scorodite was conducted in an flooded soil in the presence of anthraquinone-2,6-disulfonate (AQDS).Anaeromyxobacter,Dechloromonas,Geothrix,Geobacter,Ideonella,and Zoogloea were found to be the dominant indigenous bacteria during Fe(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) *** increased the relative abundance of dominant species,but did not change the diversity and microbial community of the systems with *** these bacteria,Geobacter exhibited the greatest increase and was the dominant Fe(Ⅲ)-and As(Ⅴ)-reducing bacteria during the incubation with AQDS and *** promoted both Fe(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) reduction,and over 80%of released As(Ⅴ) was microbially transformed to As(Ⅲ).The increases in the abundance of arrA gene and putative arrA sequences of Geobacter were higher with AQDS than without *** a result,the addition of AQDS promoted microbial Fe(Ⅲ) and As(Ⅴ) release and reduction from As-bearing iron minerals into the *** results contribute to exploration of the transformation of As from As-bearing iron minerals under anaerobic conditions,thus providing insights into the bioremediation of As-contaminated soil.

The instability of underground spaces in abandoned coal mines with water-immersed rocks is one of the main hazards hindering the geothermal energy use and ecological restoration of post-mining *** study conducted graded cyclic loading–unloading tests of fve groups of sandstone samples with diferent water *** evolution of input,elastic,dissipated,damping,and plastic energies were explored,considering the damping *** normalized plastic energy serves to characterize the damage evolution of sandstone samples,whose failure characteristics were analyzed from both the macroscopic and microscopic perspectives.X-ray difraction technique and scanning electron microscopy were used to reveal the softening mechanism of *** results show that under graded cyclic loading,input energy,elastic energy,and dissipated energy all increase gradually,and the fraction of elastic energy increases gradually at frst and then tends to *** variation in the fraction of dissipated energy is opposite to that of elastic *** each cycle,the input energy is stored primarily in the form of elastic energy,whereas the dissipated energy is used primarily to overcome the damping of *** the normalized number of cycles approached unity,the plastic energy fraction sharply increases,while that of the dampening energy drops *** increasing water content,the efect of pore water on the lubrication,the water wedge,and dissolution of mineral particles becomes more obvious,reducing the elastic-storage limit of sandstone,meanwhile the sandstone damage factor increases signifcantly under the same cycle and the failure mode changes from brittle to ductile.

For traditional frequency-domain synthetic aperture radar (SAR) algorithms, such as nonlinear chirp scaling (NCS), spatially variant Doppler phase that can be eliminated is limited by the number of undetermined coefficients. To solve this problem, an approximation-free elimination method for first-order spatial variance is proposed in this paper. In azimuth processing, the first partial derivative with respect to Doppler spatial variance is derived. Subsequently, resampling mapping relationship for slow time is constructed, which is capable of eliminating all first-order spatial variance of Doppler parameters at once. The proposed method does not employ any zero-padding, and the elimination effect of spatial variance is not limited by the number of undetermined coefficients. When lateral maneuverability of SAR sensor is high enough, the proposed method significantly outperforms traditional NCS method. Effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by simulation results. © 2023 IEEE.
