Optical and molecular insights into dissolved organic matter release in soils induced by downward migration of biochar colloids

The frequent wildfires and extensive biochar application accumulate biochar colloids in soils. The transport of biochar colloids may influence the release of soil dissolved organic matter (DOM) due to their high mobility and active surface, posing a detrimental impact on carbon cycle, pollutants behaviors, and water quality. Here, we examined the effect of pristine and aged biochar colloids on soil DOM release in three types of soils (black soil, fluvisol, and paddy soil) through adsorption and column experiments combined with fluorescence excitation/emission matrix spectroscopy (EEM) and fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS). Adsorption experiment showed that biochar exhibited little effect on soil DOM release, while transport experiment indicated that the downward movement of both pristine and aged biochar colloids significantly enhanced the release of soil DOM, especially black soil and fluvisol. EEM spectra indicated that a humic acid-like substance with large molecular weights was the primary DOM that enhanced release from black soil (10.9–12.0% enhancement) and fluvisol (6–8% enhancement) during biochar colloid transport. Condensed aromatic-like (22.8% and 19.4%) and tannin-like (18.4% and 18.9%) compounds are the primary molecules correlated to the enhanced release of humic acid-like substances. Although chemical aging resulted in a more negative surface of aged biochar colloids and slightly enhanced biochar colloid transport (up to 7.0%), it showed no distinct effect on the release of soil DOM. This study indicates that biochar colloids may cause an increase in DOM release when irrigation and rainfall occur, and more attention should be paid to the environmental impacts of biochar colloids from intensive biochar application and wildfires. Binding interaction of typical emerging contaminants on Gobiocypris rarus transthyretin:an in vitro and in silico study

Dear Editor,Two-dimensional(2-D) systems have wide applications in image data processing,gas absorption and fluid dynamics analysis [1]-[3].When there exist abrupt changes in 2-D systems,they are usually modeled by 2-D Markov jump systems(MJSs) or 2-D semi-Markov jump systems(SMJSs).This letter investigates the control of 2-D SMJSs based on a novel mode generation mechanism,which could avoid mode ambiguousness phenomenon caused by the evolution of system mode in two different *** criterion that guarantees the almost surely exponential stability of the system is obtained.A thermal process is studied to demonstrate the availability of the proposed method.

Real-world emission characteristics of carbonyl compounds from agricultural machines based on a portable emission measurement system

Emissions of carbonyl compounds from agricultural machines cannot be *** compounds can cause the formation of ozone(O3)and secondary organic aerosols,which can cause photochemical smog to *** this study,20 agricultural machines were tested using portable emission measurement system(PEMS)under real-world tillage *** exhaust gases were sampled using 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine cartridges,and 15 carbonyl compounds were analyzed by high-performance liquid *** compound emission factors for agricultural machines were 51.14–3315.62 mg/(kg-fuel),and were 2.58±2.05,0.86±1.07 and 0.29±0.20 g/(kg-fuel)for China 0,China II and China III emission standards,*** compound emission factor for sowing seeds of China 0 agricultural machines was 3.32±1.73 g/(kg-fuel).Formaldehyde,acetaldehyde and acrolein were the dominant carbonyl compounds *** in emission standards and tillage processes impact ozone formation potential(OFP).The mean OFP was 20.15±16.15 g O3/(kg-fuel)for the China 0 emission *** OFP values decreased by 66.9% from China 0 to China II,and 67.4%from China II to China *** mean OFP for sowing seeds of China 0 agricultural machines was 25.92±13.84 g O3/(kg-fuel).Between 1.75 and 24.22 times more ozone was found to be formed during sowing seeds than during other processes for China 0 and China II agricultural *** carbonyl compound emissions from agricultural machines in China was 19.23 Gg in *** results improve our understanding of carbonyl compound emissions from agricultural machines in China.

In this paper, the problem of cubature Kalman fusion filtering(CKFF) is addressed for multi-sensor systems under amplify-and-forward(AaF) relays. For the purpose of facilitating data transmission, AaF relays are utilized to regulate signal communication between sensors and filters. Here, the randomly varying channel parameters are represented by a set of stochastic variables whose occurring probabilities are permitted to exhibit bounded uncertainty. Employing the spherical-radial cubature principle, a local filter under AaF relays is initially constructed. This construction ensures and minimizes an upper bound of the filtering error covariance by designing an appropriate filter gain. Subsequently, the local filters are fused through the application of the covariance intersection fusion rule. Furthermore, the uniform boundedness of the filtering error covariance's upper bound is investigated through establishing certain sufficient conditions. The effectiveness of the proposed CKFF scheme is ultimately validated via a simulation experiment concentrating on a three-phase induction machine.

Effect of Water Soaking on the Microstructure and Spontaneous Combustion Characteristics of Bituminous Coal During Low−Temperature Oxidation

The effects of water soaking on the microstructure and spontaneous combustion characteristics of coal samples were investigated by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, and temperature programmed testing system (TPTS). The SEM results showed that the pore structures on the surface of water−soaked coal were more developed than raw coal, the pores increased and enlarged, and the phenomenon of water absorption swelling occurred. At the same time, water soaking had a certain influence on the functional groups in coal. The results of FTIR clearly illustrated that the surface functional groups of water−soaked coal were more active, and the contents of functional groups such as hydroxyl, methylene, aliphatic ether and aromatic ether all increased to varying degrees. During the low−temperature oxidation process, the analysis results of TPTS indicated that the oxygen consumption rate and the production of CO, C2H4, and other gases of water−soaked coal were higher. Based on the analysis method of CO, CO/CO2 and C2H4 gas growth rate, the three peaks of the curve obtained correspond to the characteristic temperatures of each oxidation stage of the coal samples. The critical temperature, dry cracking temperature and fission temperature of water−soaked coal were 60 ± 10 ℃, 90 ± 10 ℃ and 120 ± 10 ℃, respectively, which was 10 ℃ lower than raw coal. The apparent activation energy (Ea) of coal was calculated by the CO model and fitted in sections. It can be seen that the Ea of water−soaked coal at different stages of low−temperature oxidation was lower, and the maximum difference was 2.1 kJ/mol. Therefore, from the above results, it inferred that the activity of bituminous coal became stronger after soaking in water, which may be due to the effect of soaking on the surface structure and active groups of coal, thus showing a higher risk of spontaneous combustion. © 2022 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
