Background: β-galactosidase (β-gal) is a critical enzyme implicated in tumorigenesis and cellular aging, exhibiting upregulation in both specific cancer cells and senescent cells. Consequently, the development of probes for selective recognition of β-gal assumes paramount importance. Given its ubiquitous presence as a biomarker in various diseases, conventional detection methods relying a single factor face challenges in achieving precise diagnosis and discriminating between cancer-associated β-gal (CA-β-gal) and senescence-related β-gal (SA-β-gal). Results: To address this challenge, we introduce DCI-βgal, a novel near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probe, which leverages a logic-gate design principle to implement a dual-response mechanism. This mechanism combines enzymatic activation with pH sensitivity, enhancing the probe's selectivity for β-gal detection in diverse cellular contexts. We demonstrate the differential detection of β-gal in various cancer cell lines and senescent cells, revealing an overexpression of β-gal in HepG2 and SKOV-3 cells. Additionally, we detected β-gal expression in HeLa cells through lacZ gene transfection or exogenous supplementation, while minimal expression was observed in A549 and HeLa cells. Furthermore, high expression of β-gal was also observed in senescent cells. Notably, the distinctive subcellular signal distribution was observed in living cells, enabling the discrimination between cancer cells and senescent cells due to the dual response characteristics exhibited by our probe. Significance: Collectively, our study presents a real-time monitoring technique for β-gal enzyme activity within living systems and highlights the probe's exceptional selectivity for β-gal. This capability enables the discrimination between cancer and senescent cells, offering a promising avenue for early diagnosis and prevention strategies for β-gal-related diseases. © 2024, The Authors. Motivated by the need for increased spectral efficiency and the proliferation of intelligent applications, the sixth-generation (6G) mobile network is anticipated to integrate the dual-functions of communication and sensing (C&S). Although the millimeter wave (mmWave) communication and mmWave radar share similar multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) architecture for integration, the full potential of dual-function synergy remains to be exploited. In this paper, we commence by overviewing state-of-the-art schemes from the aspects of waveform design and signal processing. Nevertheless, these approaches face the dilemma of mutual compromise between C&S performance. To this end, we reveal and exploit the synergy between C&S. In the proposed framework, we introduce a two-stage frame structure and resort artificial intelligence (AI) to achieving the synergistic gain by designing a joint C&S channel semantic extraction and reconstruction network (JCASCasterNet). With just a cost-effective and energy-efficient single sensing antenna, the proposed scheme achieves enhanced overall performance while requiring only limited pilot and feedback signaling overhead. In the end, we outline the challenges that lie ahead in the future development of integrated sensing and communication networks, along with promising directions for further research. Development of core fuel management code system for WWER-type reactors

In this article, a core fuel management program for hexagonal pressurized water type WWER reactors (CFMHEX) has been developed, which is based on advanced three-dimensional nodal method and integrated with thermal hydraulic code to realize the coupling of neutronics and thermal-hydraulics. In CFMHEX, all these feedback effects such as burnup, power distribution, moderator density, and control rod insertion are considered. The verification and validation of the code system have been examined through the IAEA WWER-1000-type Kalinin NPP benchmark problem. The numerical results are in good agreement with measurements and are close to those of other international institutes.

Unexpectedly high salt accumulation inside carbon nanotubes soaked in very dilute salt solutions

We experimentally demonstrate the formation of salt aggregations with unexpectedly high concentration inside multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) soaked only in dilute salt solutions and even in solutions containing only traces of salts. This finding suggests the blocking of fluid across CNTs by the salt aggregations when CNTs are soaked in a dilute salt solution with the concentration of seawater or even lower, which may open new avenues for the development of novel CNT-based desalination techniques. The high salt accumulation of CNTs also provides a new CNT-based strategy for the collection/extraction of noble metal salts in solutions containing traces of noble metal salts. Theoretical analyses reveal that this high salt accumulation inside CNTs can be mainly attributed to the strong hydrated cation–π interactions of hydrated cations and π electrons in the aromatic rings of CNTs. A better understanding of the mmWave channel coherence time will play a significant role in both communication and sensing. Traditional literatures consider that the channel coherence time in mmWave communication will be very short due to high frequency, which makes the channel estimation more difficult. However, we believe that the propagation characteristics of the mmWave channel will affect its coherence time, i.e., channel sparsity may limit its time variability. In this paper, we investigate the time-varying nature of mmWave channel by analyzing its Doppler spread based on the clustered sparsity model. After the derivation of Doppler spectrum DPS and the simulation analysis based on the two-cluster channel, we found that the maximum angle between clusters and the power distribution between clusters are two main factors limiting the Doppler spread. Finally, the realistic mmWave NYUSIM model is used for Doppler spread comparative analysis with Clarke’s model and find that Doppler spread of NYUSIM channel is far less than that estimated based on Clarke’s model. Thus, it is demonstrated that even if the mmWave frequency is high, the clustered sparsity characteristics makes its channel coherence time not as short as thought intuitively, which is meaningful for mmWave vehicular sensing and communication.

Hafnia-based oxide thin films exhibit unconventional robust ferroelectricity at the nanoscale, paving the way for advancements in next-generation nanoelectronics. However, the stability and dynamics of ferroelectric polarization in hafnia-based oxides films, particularly at the nanoscale, warrant further exploration. In this study, we delve into the factors influencing the formation of the ferroelectric phase. Our findings illuminate that the confinement effect of the capped layer enhances the stabilization of the metastable orthorhombic phase, thereby bolstering its ferroelectricity and endurance. Furthermore, we identify an unprecedented polarization-switching behavior in HfO2-based ferroelectric films, characterized by a decrease in the remanent polarization and an increase in the coercive field as the temperature drops. This peculiar phenomenon can be ascribed to the reduction in the long-range interaction of polarization dipoles upon cooling, as evidenced by the dielectric spectrum. The diminished long-range interaction results in the emergence of nanodomains and a re-entrant relaxer behavior, offering novel insights into the origin of ferroelectricity and the stability of ferroelectric polarization in hafnia-based thin films. Given the commendable compatibility of Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 films with Si substrates and a pyroelectric coefficient of -62.1 μC/m2·K, they emerge as a prime candidate for sensor device applications. © 2023, The Authors. Delving into the Continuous Domain Adaptation

Existing domain adaptation methods assume that domain discrepancies are caused by a few discrete attributes and variations, e.g., art, real, painting, quickdraw, etc. We argue that this is not realistic as it is implausible to define the real-world datasets using a few discrete attributes. Therefore, we propose to investigate a new problem namely the Continuous Domain Adaptation (CDA) through the lens where infinite domains are formed by continuously varying attributes. Leveraging knowledge of two labeled source domains and several observed unlabeled target domains data, the objective of CDA is to learn a generalized model for whole data distribution with the continuous attribute. Besides the contributions of formulating a new problem, we also propose a novel approach as a strong CDA baseline. To be specific, firstly we propose a novel alternating training strategy to reduce discrepancies among multiple domains meanwhile generalize to unseen target domains. Secondly, we propose a continuity constraint when estimating the cross-domain divergence measurement. Finally, to decouple the discrepancy from the mini-batch size, we design a domain-specific queue to maintain the global view of the source domain that further boosts the adaptation performances. Our method is proven to achieve the state-of-the-art in CDA problem using extensive experiments. The code is available at https://***/SPIresearch/CDA. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. Based on the analysis and simulation of TPC codec principle and iteration decoding algorithm based on Chase 2, the design and implementation methods of TPC encoder and decoder are presented in this paper. In particular, circuit design and implementation flow of soft-input soft-output modified method in decoder algorithm and iteration decoding are analyzed. Aiming at (64,57,4) TPC, when the iteration times is 3 and the uncertain position number is 3, simulation and implementation results show that at least 6.8dB encoding gain can be obtained under the condition of BER=10−6

A lunar regolith in-situ analysis payload deploying a mass spectrometer is proposed to exactly detect the water ice of the South Pole of the moon for China future lunar exploration missions. In order to realize the goal, an airtight heating furnace for volatile extraction from lunar regolith is desired. In this paper, sealing methods for lunar regolith volatile in heating furnace to future proposed in-situ sampling and analysis of lunar samples were investigated based on power requirements, furnace closing accuracy requirements, dust tolerance and operation in the Lunar environment. Methods implemented include a balanced metal hollow ring seal, a double channel ferrule tab ring radial seal and a spring energized seal. Comparing the performance of sealing methods under the above conditions, a spring energized seal is selected as the heating furnace seal. The materials and structure of the seal are designed based on the rigidity requirements, leakage rate requirements and working environment requirements. In order to test the sealing performance of seals after repeated sealing in high and low temperature environments, a seal leak detection system was designed. The test results indicate that the seal can meet the sealing performance requirements after repeated sealing at various temperatures.

This paper studies the exploitation of triple polarization (TP) for multi-user (MU) holographic multiple-input multiple-output surface (HMIMOS) wireless communication systems, aiming at capacity boosting without enlarging the antenna array size. We specifically consider that both the transmitter and receiver are equipped with an HMIMOS comprising compact sub-wavelength TP patch antennas. To characterize TP MU-HMIMOS systems, a TP near-field channel model is proposed using the dyadic Green's function, whose characteristics are leveraged to design a user-cluster-based precoding scheme for mitigating the cross-polarization and inter-user interference contributions. A theoretical correlation analysis for HMIMOS with infinitely small patch antennas is also presented. According to the proposed scheme, the users are assigned to one of the three polarizations, which is easy to implement, at the cost, however, of reducing the system's diversity. Our numerical results showcase that the cross-polarization channel components have a non-negligible impact on the system performance, which is efficiently eliminated with the proposed MU precoding scheme.
